McCarley Memories
Sidney & Martha McCarley's 50th Wedding Anniversery Martha Niblett moved from around Weatherford, Texas to Bowie, Texas to work in a milners shop and learn how to make hats. One day in particular the shop became so hot, she stepped out onto the wooden sidewalk next to the rail to cool off. Texas was just as hot back then but there was no air conditioning. As she stood there trying to catch a breeze, a herd of horses were being driven through town by a young man from Smith Co., TX. Sidney E. McCarley took one look at Martha and was certain she would be his wife. He rode up to the sidewalk rail to introduce himself, but his herd of horses kept going. Knowing he couldn't stay, he told Martha he would be back to get her after he delivered the horses. Sidney and Martha were married on December 8, 1895 in Smith Co., TX.
