Background Several graduate-level courses, including the USDA Basic Indexing course and many professional seminars and workshops have added to my professional growth. I am a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) and the former manager of the Indexing Special Interest Group (SIG) within STC. The goal of the Indexing SIG is to help technical communicators learn more about writing good indexes for their documentation. The American Society of Indexers (ASI) is also important to my professional development; I have served as co-leader of the Western New York State chapter, and have served on the ASI Board of Directors. I have written stand-alone and embedded indexes for many computer-related manuals and high-tech product manuals. I also enjoy writing indexes for books about genealogy, biographies, NY State history, the Adirondack Mountains, and American history. My presentations include:
