WHAT HE'S ABOUT

God knows what He's about,
So should we chafe and doubt?
No, let us trust and wait,
God makes not one mistake!
The Potter's Hand is skilled,
He works what He has willed;
This earthen house of clay
Is but to fade away;
But shall His Glory dim?
Oh, NO! One glimpse of Him
Bescatters every doubt;
God knows what He's about!

THRASHED BY THE WIND

"The LORD delights in those . . . who put their hope in his unfailing love. . . . He grants peace to your borders and satisfies you . . . He stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow . . . Praise the LORD" Psalm 147:11-20 NIV.

"Praise the LORD . . . you . . . stormy winds that do his bidding," Psalm 148:7,8 NIV.

"You [LORD] have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath [blast] of the ruthless [one] is like a storm driving against a wall" Isaiah 25:4 NIV.

"Thrashed by the wind"
As the lone pine tree;
Lone in the wind,
Yet upheld by Thee!

Blow, then, Oh Wind --
‘Tis His wind for me;
Love sent the wind
Just to set me free!

WOUNDED

Zech.13:6; Isaiah 53:4-6

His loving heart is wounded
When e're He sees us frown,
When e're we think one moment
That He has let us down!

Then fear and fret be vanished!
My Saviour watches me!
Enough that He was wounded
That Day at Calvary!

RISEN

1 Corinthians 15:17; Luke 24:32

His work would not be finished
Had He not risen, Yea!
Our sins would still be on us
And all would be dismay!

We'd have no hope of morning,
No joy of His return;
Nor would He walk beside us
And cause our hearts to burn.

But Oh! Our LORD is risen!
We trust Him not in vain;
Death indeed is conquered
And He will come again!

ORDERED

Isaiah 41:10; 42:6

I will strengthen you, my child
And be with you all the while;
I will hold you in my hand,
All is ordered in my plan.

I will help you where you are;
I will quench each fiery dart!
You will not be cast away,
I will keep you all the way!

HIS BENEFITS

Psalms 118:12

"All His benefits toward me" --
To count the sum would truly be
A task so vast, beyond compare;
"His benefits" are daily everywhere!

THE FLOWER

Philippians 4:6-8; 3:8; Colossians 3:2

It was such a pretty flower;
The first one of the spring,
A friend had given it to me,
Such a simple thoughtful thing.

A child laid hands upon it,
Picked each petal from the stem,
Then I found the flower scattered
And I heard these words from Him,

"l am your God; a jealous God;
Your love must be for Me;
By a flower's scattered petals
I would speak My love to thee."

My affections then were centered
On the things that are Above
For the Lord had sent His message,
I was guarded by His love.

Though the flower's gone forever,
Still His love remains the same;
And His beauty? -- It surpasses
All earth's flowers you could name.

Yes, my eyes were turned to Jesus,
I could thank Him for the loss;
It was no loss at all really,
For He died upon a Cross.

Written spontaneously, as are most of my poems.

ONE GOAL
Hebrews 13:8; John 3:16; 1 Peter 2:7a

My one great goal is Jesus;
For Him alone I thirst
And since I found Him precious,
He is my ALL, and first
My soul would view Him,
Would catch a vision fair
Of Christ in all His Glory
And in that Glory share!

My one great goal is Jesus;
None other captures me;
And, Oh, I long to hear His,
"Come here, My child, to me!"
Till then, I'm pressing onward
While resting in His grace
And seeking further visions
Of His resplendent face!

My one great goal is Jesus;
I do not wish to be
Enchained by earthly longings,
For He has set me free
To follow and to serve Him;
To make His longings mine;
To know and love His presence
And in His image shine!

My one great goal is Jesus --
Oh, would you not be free
Of all your constant longings
For fading things that flee?
He is alone unchanging,
And, Oh, He longs that you
Might know His constant longing,
His one great goal is YOU!

THE MONUMENT

God built a monument of love
On Calvary's rugged hill
And let His own beloved Son
For sin, pay there our bill;
Because that debt was paid in full
Death had no further claim
And God's beloved sinless Son
From death to live then came.
Oh, yes! He 'rose again that day,
Just as He promised to;
He broke the bonds of death and hell
And lifted me and you!

GOD'S PURPOSE

Psalm 56:3,11; Psalm 4:1; 2 Corinthians 1:8-14

How sweet are the pressures
That drive us to God;
How kind is the Hand
That corrects with the rod!
We cannot with eyes
That are mortal now see,
But when we reach Glory
God's purpose will be
Unveiled for our viewing,
And to our delight,
We'll see how completely
He worked all things right!

So now though we're blinded
By rivers of tears,
We'll trust our Great Savior
Through all of our fears
And when they have vanished
We'll find in their place,
The wonderful things
He has wrought by His grace!

BROKEN

John 12:24

Under the beating rain;
Under the broken earth;
Lies the planted seed
Which the Son will bring to birth
With the sunshine of His presence
And the blessing of His smile;
Swift will be the harvest
In the Saviour's after while.
So with patience bear the waiting
And with pleasure you will reap,
For the Husbandman is tending
And the broken He will keep.

PREPARED

Psalm 23:2

God prepares His own
For all that lies ahead;
He knows the way before
And they are safely led.

THORNS

God give you healing
For your thorns;
As roses bloom
On early morns,
With fragrance sweet
Himself will meet
You in the place
Of thorns.

JESUS YOUR LOVE IS BOUNDLESS

Romans 8:35-39; Lamentations 3:21-23,40,41 ; 1 John 4:10

Jesus, Your love is boundless;
It's like a shoreless sea
Which has no bed and has no crest;
It's marvelous to me!

Jesus, my all is not enough
To offer back to You,
But You must give, that I may give
Some token back to You.

Jesus, Your faithfulness is sure;
Your mercies new each day;
It's thus that I am not consumed;
You will not turn away.

Jesus, how often I have failed;
I turn anew to You;
I lift my heart up with my hands;
I give it back to You.

Jesus, my Portion and my Strength,
Strengthen Your child once more;
By Your compassion grant me joy,
Let me Your will adore.

Jesus, Your love is boundless;
It's great enough for me;
I love You, Lord, for You did first
Love such a one as me.

SO SOON WE SEE HIM

Take heart and courage in His Grace!
Soon, so soon, we see His face!
Hallelujah for the moment
When He returns!
This is all our longing,
How our heart yearns
Just to sit and worship
At His blessed feet
And behold Him smiling
From the mercy seat!
We will be with Jesus,
Ever, ever more;
There the Lamb of God,
Forever we'll adore!

TO THEE ALL HEARTS ARE OPEN*

Psalm 103:12-17; 139:1-5

"To Thee all hearts are open,"
From Thee no secrets hide;
Thine eyes see deep within me,
By Thee my motives tried . . .

"To Thee all hearts are open" -
Fill Thou my heart with Thee;
My life a treasure showing
That I have walked with Thee!

p align="center">JOY IN THE MORNING p align="center">"A shout of joy will be ours in the morning!" Psalm 30:5

Joy in the morning -
So soon He'll return!
Joy in the morning -
Then let our lamps burn.

He'll come with the dawning
And make all things right!
He'll come with the dawning -
So what if it's night!

Take heart in His promise;
He's at the door now!
Take heart in His presence
And at His feet bow!
