Project of the Month:

"Rubber Stamping Candles, the easy way"

1) Purchase a white candle, short fat are nice, but even votives work, but they need to be smooth shaped candles, no scallops.

2) Cut a piece of white tissue paper the size of your candle, figure the height and wrap it around with only the tiniest bit of overlap.

3) With your paper flat on the table, stamp what ever you would like onto this single piece of tissue paper. Dye base works great.

4) Wrap the stamped tissue around the candle and secure lightly with straight pins.

5) Apply heat with a heat tool (like for embossing powders), until wax melts through the tissue paper.

6) Let it cool, remove the pins and now your candle is rubber stamped!!!

Cool huh? So easy you can do this with kids and they make wonderful gifts!!!!

To decorate with Photographs:

Make copies of your photographs, (checkbooks sometimes get lost, you don't want to lose your favorite photos). Glue photos directly to your cardstock or cut frames (Foreground Images) for them to look out of ("neato stuff rubber stamps" has many frames you can use for this and scrapbooking).

To decorate with Rubber Stamps:

You can use pigment inks on the matte side of the cardstock or any other ink on the glossy side. Try all over designs, like neato stuff's texture cubes (Texture Cubes). Or stamp a scene. Combine stamps with other medium, ie. ribbon, confetti, charms, photos, scraps of decorative paper.

To decorate with Fabric:

There are a couple products on the market that can be ironed onto the backside of almost any fabric making it so you can iron it onto your cardstock. Ask at your local craft or fabric store. Just follow the product instructions.

To decorate with Kids Art:

Hand your kids the cardstock--they'll know what to do !

Fishbowl Card

You will need: (you may click on links to order each item)

X622 Gift Card Size Stairstep Pop Out Template Stamp

X621 Envelope Template (optional)

964 Fishbowl stamp

971 Goldfish

974 Sand Castle

603 Sky cube

Thanks or other phrase

White cardstock

3 x 5 backing card

A laminator or cold laminate (hand applied)

Colored pens

Black ink pad

Teal or other blue ink pad

Fushia or other pink ink pad

Scissors

#16 X-Acto Blade

X-Acto knife or other utility knife

Metal ruler

Scoring tool

Tacky glue or foam mounting tape

Dryline adhesive

What to do:

1) Stamp Fishbowl (964), Goldfish (971) and Sand Castle (974) on white cardstock. Color all images as desired. With utility knife (use a #16 blade, it's so easy!) cut along inside edge of fishbowl. Cut out fish and sand castle and set aside.

2) Laminate fishbowl by favorite means, either cold laminate or with a machine. Cut outside edge of fishbowl.

3) Stamp Stairstep Template on backside of cardstock. Follow directions on stamp to cut and score.

4) Stamp Sky cube (603) in background, your choice of 4 designs on the cube. You can see where the center fold will be, stamp in blue for top half and pink for bottom half, remember, stamp from the bottom or center fold line up so your hand is not in the way for matching up the design. Turn the card over to stamp from bottom up on lower part of card. When ink is dry, pop out card as instructed on label on template. Trim card on second line in.

5) Back card with a 3 x 5 backing card, using dryline adhesive (or tacky glue, but be careful to not use too much tacky glue, it can raise the surface on cardstock from the moisture, and don't close the card until it is dry or the card might slide out of the backing, dryline really is the better choice here).

6) Attach fish and sand castle as shown in the picture, using Tacky glue or foam mounting tape.

5) Place in envelope made with X621 Envelope Template.

Wind Chimes

Age range-9 to Adult

Approx. cost-$2.50

Time needed (excluding dry time)-one hour

Materials you will need:

5-1" washers*

1 -1 1/4" washer*

1 really big washer (about 2 1/2 or 3 inch)*

1 Bamboo bar-b-que skewer

Embroidery floss of your color choice

Black-Quick dry rubber stamp ink (craft ink)

1 texture cube or other background type rubber stamp

Acrylic paint to match or contrast your floss color

Paper towel

Tacky white glue

*When making your washer choices, be sure to test for sound quality, "tink" them together to make sure the size and kind of metal you are purchasing makes a nice sound. The sizes are really up to you and the sound you get, but the aforementioned sizes will be referred to in the instructions.

1) Using a paper towel, dab on a thin coat of acrylic color on one side of each of the 5-1" washers, set aside to dry, it is nice to see the color of the washer thru the paint, so don't dab on too thick. When dry dab onto the other side. This should be a rough look, not smooth.

2) Rubber stamp the 2 larger washers with the texture cube rubber stamp (see our texture cubes on www.popouts.com). Stamping all over on the smaller washer is nice and just the corners of the image, overlapping the edge of the washer, on the largest looks good. Let dry completely, you may stamp both sides if you wish.

3) Cut 7-30" lengths of embroidery floss. Fold each length in half and thread the folded end partly thru the hole of the washer, then thread the other ends of the floss through the folded end of the floss, Pull tight. Repeat this with all washers.

4) Lay out the washers on the table in a pleasing pattern where they will touch and hit into each other slightly. Place strings up above the washers, going straight up.

5) Break the skewer in half, lay one piece of skewer across the strings about 1" above the highest washer. Starting on one end grasp the doubled string attached to one washer just where it crosses the skewer, pick it up without losing that mark and tie a knot in the string at this position. Repeat with each set of washer strings.

6) Lay out the washers again on the table just as before with strings going up. Beginning on one end seperate the string and place the skewer between them, tie another knot, square knot is good, then place the other skewer piece above this knot and tie it on in the same manner. Repeat with each string, in order until all are tied onto both skewers.

7) You may slide the strings to an attractive positioning and place a drop of glue on each knot at the skewer to keep them from moving. Let dry.

8) Gather up all the strings about 4" above top skewer and make one big knot using all the strings together. Make a loop knot above the first knot for hanging. Apply liberal drops of glue to the loop knot to hold, let dry. Trim excess floss away.

9) Hang your chimes and enjoy the sounds.
