~~ Some facts about Blade to help do away with common misconceptions about him and many other Danes: ~~
1. He is not a horse.
2. No, you can't ride him.
3. He doesn't eat me out of house and home... he only averages 5-6 cups of food a day.
4. He won't bite you. He's just big. He'd never bite a soul no matter what.
5.He doesn't *know* he's big. He thinks he's a little pup who can run up and hop in your lap. He can't understand why people react to him the way they do.
6. He loves other dogs to a fault. He's harmless toward them. He will not "bite his little head off!" or anything of the sort other than sniff, lick, and play. He would probably lose a fight to a chihuahua because he's a big wimp and he'd run!
7. He doesn't have a saddle.
8. No, I don't "stud him out and make yourself some fast cash!"
9. His owner doesn't like to be told he will "die so young." Some Danes can live past the average anyway, which isn't even that low compared to large breeds like German Shephards or Rottweilers. He has a Grandmother who is 11 and still going strong. Besides, the time you do have with one of these gentle giants is more than worth the heartache of losing one.
10. He has a big mouth and a big bark... but he's really just a big baby. He would run and hide if there was danger, more than likely.
11. His prong collar is not a torture device. It's used for training him not to pull, so a person he outweighs can control him and keep him safe. I even has rubber tips on it because he's spoiled and his Mommy worries about everything.
12. He doesn't need a huge mansion to live in, which is good since I don't own one! We currently live in a one-room in-law suite together.
13. He doesn't require tons of excercise. He likes a good half hour a day for a walk or a romp in the yard, and that's it. Then he'd rather nap or lay and chew his bones or toys.
14. He only drools when he drinks, or when he's really worked up.
15. He has gas that could floor an elephant!
16. He is not a Mastif, a Boxer, or a large lab mix. He's all Great Dane.
17. He's never been destructive, and was easy to train both in house breaking and obediance.
18. He's a completele Mommy's boy who whines when she leaves him and never wants to be left out of anything.
19. He loves car rides.
20. He loves drive thrus and ice cream!
21. I walk him, he doesn't walk me. Or at best we simply walk together.
