MY SPECIAL THANKS TO JEFF JACOBS FOR MANY OF THE PICTURES,
PAGE FORMAT AND DATA USED TO START THIS MICROMACHINES SECTION

Galoob issued MicroMachines Sets with the Star Trek Theme from 1993-1996.
These releases included standard 3-packs, individual packs, and many special larger sets.

Ships are 1-2 inches in length and come with individual display stands.

First Release

This was the original set issued in the MicroMachines Series for Star Trek, in 1993. An attractive set that was in short supply and which had a controversial NX-titled ship that was later updated in future sets because of a dispute.

Variation:  Again, when the set was first released, the decal on the ship Excelsior read "NX-2000".
Later, and by far the most common, this decal was changed to read "NCC-2000".

First Series 3-pack Collections
[IMAGE]

Note:  Initial release of this First Series only included Collections 1, 2, and 3, and were on the bright pink, orange and yellow card backs ( same color pattern as the first release 9-ship set shown above).  The back of these first cards also only depicted the first 3 collections.  Subsequent releases of this First Series included all 5 sets in the collection on a new darker format card, and the back of the card was updated to reflect all 5 collections in this first series release.

Second 3-pack Series - release and re-release variations

Only the first 8 collections were initially released .  All 8 collections had the same card back, which depicted these eight collections.  This 8-back is pictured left.  The front of the collection showed the title of the set.   In this initial release, like the First Series Collections, the title DID NOT have the Roman Numeral set number as part of the title.

Next to be released was the Generation Collection #9.
This collection followed the same format as the first 8 collections, but the back was different.

The first 9 collections were then re-released, along with collections 10 thru 14, on a new 14-back card, which  now depicted all 14 collections.  The front of the card again depicted the title of the collection, but this time the number of  the collection was included with the title in Roman Numerals.  The titles for re-released sets 1-9 are the same as the previous release, but now included the Roman Numeral set number. The front card pattern shows the Enterprise on the left portion of the card, and there is a holodeck grid-pattern at the top of the card.

The first 14 collections were again re-released, along with collections 15 and 16, on a new 16-back card, which now depicted all 16 collections.  The front of the card again depicted the title of the collection, and again included the number of the collection in Roman Numerals.  The titles for sets 1-14 are the same as the previous release.  Collections 15 and 16 are only available in this format.  The front card pattern shows the Enterprise on the right portion of the card, and the holodeck grid-pattern no longer exists. This release also sported the words STAR TREK and the  Roman Numeral set number on the sides of the package.

Lettering and Color Variations

Lettering Variations- Other than the well known NX/NCC Excelsior change noted above, the original 1701 Enterprise came with "short" lettering but was revised to "taller" lettering which is the more common one. Color Variations- the black and gray Borg Cubes, the orange and brown Ferengi Mauraders, and the white and gray version Berman Shuttlecrafts. These variations occurred between sets as individual ships were re-released in a new packaging format. From what I've seen, these are not variations that occurred within a single set release.

Foreign  Releases

UNITED KINGDOM

Whereas the sets released in the U.S. had hook pegmounts,

the same sets released in the U.K. were on cards that had a slot pegmount.

Here is the First Series on UK Cards

VARIATION

The eight collections in Series 2 were released on two different cards in the U.K.

CANADA

In Canada, the cards were bi-lingual and sported the Canadian version of the Galoob logo in the upper right-hand corner of the card.  The Canadian Galoob logo also includes a Mapleleaf.  Only the first Series Collections were released in Canada with the Mapleleaf logo.

JAPAN

These 1-Packs were released exclusively in Japan in 1995 by Tsukuda Hobby as prizes for vending machines. The package shown  includes the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, and was the first in a release of 15 different Star Trek vehicles. The package is in Japanese and measure 5.5” wide, 2.5” tall and 2.25” deep.

AUSTRALIA

The releases in Australia were the same as in the U.S. but had the Kid Biz distributer sticker added.

ITALY

Like the cards released in the U.K. the cards released in Italy were on cards that had a slot pegmount.  These cards are in Italian.   At least the First and Second Series Collections and Generations Set were released in Italy on  these slot cards
....beyond that I'm not sure.

FRANCE / GERMANY

Like the cards released in the U.K. the cards released in France and Germany were on cards that had a slot pegmount.  These cards, however. are bi-lingual (French/German) and all sport the "IDEAL" logo.  Note the unique card pattern used on some of the releases: the card front is black with stars, but shows no ships or grid pattern.  At least the first Series Collections (1-5) and some of the 2nd Series were released in France and Germany on  these bi-lingual slot cards
....beyond that I'm not sure.
