What is Kingston Point BMX
Raceway?
Kingston Point BMX Raceway is
a non-profit organization in the business of having
FUN! It is
composed strictly of volunteers dedicated to the sport of
BMX. Kingston Point BMX Raceway is sanctioned by the ABA
(American Bicycle Association) and races in accordance with
their guidelines. Points are awarded for racing and are used
to establish rankings locally and nationally. We are located
in the Hudson Valley next to the Husdon River on Delaware
Ave. in the City of Kingston, County of Ulster, State of New
York. We have races two times per week and one night for
practice.
OK, so what's BMX?
BMX or Bicycle MotoCross is a totally
habit forming sport that involves a rider and a 16, 20 or 24
inch bicycle manuvering over a dirt track composed of
multiple jumps, banked turns, etc. The sport is structured so
that riders of any ability or age, including mom and dad, can
participate in the action. Of Course, we do have parents that
prefer to cheer from the sidelines.
Who can race?
If you can ride a bike and want to
race...YOU CAN! Racing at Kingston Point BMX Raceway is open
to anyone that wants to race, and has the required equipment
(We can help!). We've had riders from 4 to 54 years old,
while other tracks have reported riders as young as 3 and as
old as 68. Everyone is encouraged to come out and join in the
fun.
What's this BMX track
like?
Thanks to the efforts lots of hard
working volunteers our track is one of the best tracks
on the East Coast. You have to see it and ride it to
appreciate it. Kingston Point BMX Raceway is open for action
in May of each year.
This Stuff sounds pretty
intimidating. Can I really do it?
There's absolutely no pressure -
really! The riders here at Kingston Point BMX Raceway are
very supportive of new riders. In fact, we can assign a
"buddy" to any new rider that wants assistance to
help the rider through the entire process of registration,
racing, trophies, etc. In addition, there are always track
officials on hand to answer any questions a new rider may
have. We welcome new riders at Kingston Point BMX Raceway -
hey, the more riders the better the competition!
Racers are grouped according to skill level: novice,
intermediate, and expert. Riders begin as novice and must
have six first place wins to move on to intermediate. From
there twenty wins are required to move to Expert. Riders DO
NOT have the option not to advance after the required number
of wins has been reached. If your 5 or under Mom and Dad can
help you on the Starting Gate also.
I'd like to try out this BMX
stuff without actually committing to a race.
No problem! Thats why the ABA
created a Trial Membership. Just have the required equipment
and show up for a session. A track official will be present
to get you started. Be aware, BMX is very habit forming! Just
ask the racers, they can't wait for Wednesday and Saturday.
(our race days).
