the Craigmiles/Craigmyle DNA Surname Project
Thanks to Jessie Craigmiles for
starting this project. She describes it as follows:
The purpose of this study is to prove that the names
Craigmiles/Craigmyle/Craigmile share a common ancestor .Many of us have tried
to trace the orgins of the Craigmiles/Craigmyle/Craigmile lines, often with
frustrating results. Some of our roots have been traced back to
Kincardine-O'Neil, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In the early part of the 1700's,
many Scots migrated to Canada and the United States. Some settled in Ohio.
Others in PA. From PA they moved on to KY, MO, and IL.We hope this project
will establish with some certainty that we do share common ancestors. I recommend
the 37 or the 67 marker test. We get the group rates which they give at the
website. Click on the title above or go to

The Canadian Craigmyles
The Victoria Bed and
Breakfast - Craigmyle Inn is in Victoria, British Columbia. We contacted
the Craigmyle Guest House to determine the origination of the name. It seems
that a Robert Dunsmuir built a castle on adjacent ground in 1889. He was
by far the wealthiest and most influential man in British Columbia at that
time. He and his wife, Joan had a friend in Scotland named Annie Laurie,
a poetess. She owned and lived in a castle there called Craigdarroch and
they named their property after hers. In Gaelic, "Craig" means rock and "myle"
means place. Craigdarroch is rock with oaks and when the guest house was
built it followed the lead of the castle. The district they are in is called
Rockland. See
B.C. Culture:
Craigdarroch Castle.
