The History of State Street
United Methodist Church
 Over 175 years
ago Methodists in Bowling Green, Kentucky began meeting with a membership
of twelve. The Civil War had an impact on the young congregation; by
1862 Federal troops had withdrawn and the church building was in poor condition.
In 1863, the church was strengthened and revitalized. By 1894,
construction began on a new building, the impressive Romanesque Revival building
which houses the present congregation. The sanctuary was extensively remodeled
in 1952. In 1995, State Street United Methodist celebrated its one
hundredth anniversary at its present site. Come help us celebrate the
past, present, and future!
