The Knoebels Twister opened on July 24, 1999, and quickly became one of my personal favorite roller coasters. This coaster offers everything I seek in a coaster - it has some at least one fine drop, great speed, strong lateral forces, curves, crossovers (the most of any coaster, actually!), a complicated track layout, a tunnel, some air time. Could I ask for anything more? How about the fact that it's based on the Plans for the (now-defunct) Mr. Twister in Denver, Colorado, which was my favorite coaster until it closed and was subsequently demolished? For me, the Knoebels Twister is a wonderful coaster. I have enjoyed "hosting" the now-famous Knoebels Twister Page with its photographs by Bob Rarick documenting the coaster's construction. To date, over 400 photographs have been featured on that page, and the page has been viewed more than 40000 times. I thought it was time, though, for me to show some on-ride photographs that I took on 8/16/99. If you like twisters, or if you liked Mr. Twister, this coaster may be for you!

Left, the split or folded
lift hill features a near-replica of
Mr. Twister's famous swoop curve
by curving one way, then the other.
It includes strong lateral forces, speed,
and multiple crossovers as it approaches
the second portion of the lift.

Below: the first drop, like Mr. Twister's,
is long and thrilling. Unlike Mr. Twister,
this coaster crosses through the
structure of several other tracks, and
that structure envelopes the drop.
