"Stone Poems"
The digital photos pictured here are examples of recent rock sculptures by Barry Chukerman (aka ROCKMAN). I have chosen to call them "Stone Poems" at the suggestion of a friend (John) in Canada, an accomplished stone mason himself. Made from found rocks, without tools, glue, adhesives, or alterations of any kind, these sculptures are the result of the exploration of wind, water, rocks, balance, & gravity (and a little patience). I build them, photograph them, and leave them behind for others to enjoy. Eventually, they fall prey to the birds, the wind, the tides or to curious humans who can't resist the temptation to test them and then they go away. Only the photos remain.
The entire process is completely earth friendly, and it remains my intention to keep it that way. In many ways, I feel like a little kid with a new set. of blocks. The biggest difference is that with these, I never have to put them away!!! (eat your hearts out, kids)
My current work has slowed (ceased) for the time being until my broken hand mends itself. In the meantime, I will continue to work on the photos and on developing the technical expertise required to create a more permanent version of my gravity defying, curiosity peaking "Stone Poems".
Rockman lives in Corte Madera, California with his excellent wife (Susan) and works throughout the Bay Area or anywhere their travels take them. I will gladly (after my broken hand is mended) do custom installations or one-time events.
