I first became involved in mastiffs about 14 years ago when I lived in Missouri and had my first encounter with a mastiff. Then, two years later I had a mastiff breeder as a client and I fell in love with the breed. I still remember sitting up all night with this breeder and her bitch waiting for her to whelp. When she did, she had fourteen puppies and we had to help several of the puppies to get them to breathe. One of the puppies came out not breathing at all and I started resuscitation on it and brought it back to life. Needless to say, I really bonded with that puppy. After a little red ribbon was placed around his neck, my friend said, "He's yours if you want him", and boy did I. That was Ranger and since then Ranger has been the love of my life. I have learned a great deal about mastiffs from that day on and wanted to share my knowledge of the breed with other mastiff owners and veterinarians by having a web page with mastiff medicine articles.
