Episode: A Tree Grows In Trinity

A Tree Grows In Trinity

Well, since this was the first episode discussed that I worked on, I thought I would blather a bit and see if I could come up with any interesting behind
the scenes tidbits.

A Tree Grows in Trinity.

(Remember that production on the regular series started with the episode Eye of the Beholder, so Tree was the second regular episode produced.)

Production started on this episode on Friday, July 28th, 1995. The crew call was 9:30 am. The first scene(s) shot for the ep read EXT.BURNED OUT
FARMHOUSE--Lucas preps search-meets Gail-Matt leaves.

Various memories I have from this episode--
Paige Turco made the mistake of trying to pet one of the (real) tracking dogs, and it mistook the motion and snapped at her, ripping her long skirt
and leaving a scratch on her leg--freaked her out.
It was during this episode that Gary Cole and Brenda Bakke told producer David Eick of their idea to have it turn out that Lucas Buck and Selena were brother and sister (!) (yuck!) The idea was rapidly shot down by the nervously laughing Eick.
Releasing guest star Arnold Vosloo for the day one day, then the assistant directors deciding they needed to shoot something else with him,
prompting a search of Wilmington's downtown to find Mr. V. (They found him!)
Because we had gotten behind on Eye of the Beholder, one scene from that episode was shot by us during this episode and directed by this ep's
director. In a domino effect, this pushed us behind on this episode, and for the next few eps, one scene from each was pushed to the next until we
finally caught up.
Watching the goat playing Eli get a little nuts on the porch of the house and jumping as he head butted the window I was standing directly behind
inside the house! Yow! (He didn't break the window, BTW.)

Well, that's all my tortured memory can dredge up (with a little help from my call sheets and production reports). Hope this stuff is on interest
to you guys. With luck I'll be able to compile similar reports for each of the remaining episodes.

One addendum--I have been planning to make special mention of the first day's work for each of the AG regulars, and missed one already.
Because Ben Healy doesn't appear in Eye of the Beholder (the first regular ep produced), Friday, July 28th, 1995 also marks Nick Searcy's first
day working on the regular series. He had a 9:30 am makeup call, and his first scene was the same as the episode's: the prep for the search for Caleb
by the burned out house.

More to come!
