I saw an article announcing this series at the Ultimate
TV Web site. It is about a Latino family in East L.A. There
is a 22 episode guarantee, and it is scheduled to start in summer
2000 on Showtime. Showtime is a cable network that is by subscription
only. I, of course, think it's worth the fee to watch Ruth, but
I won't tell you how to think. If you have it already, then be
sure to check it out.
On December 19, the Los Angeles Times ran an article about
the show called "Finally in the Ring", which gives some
details about the show. Ruth had a brief quote. I encourage you
to read it at the link here,
but in case you are pressed for time, here is a quick summary:
- The series is scheduled to start in June.
- Dennis Leoni wrote the original film, and will likely write
many of the episodes
- Jesus Trevino directed the original film and will be producing.
- The series is about a family with a long history of boxing,
their interactions, and their struggles.
- Ruth's character, Yolanda, is a paralegal that works in Beverly
Hills.
- The series will have a strong Latin American slant, with
most of the characters, actors, and people behind the scenes
being Latinos.

I think it's a great role for her, and I'm sure she'll do well
in it. I'm looking forward to seeing her.The show is due to premiere
Monday, June 26 at 10:00 PM. It will last about 1 hour and 35
minutes on the first day (June 26), and about 45 minutes after
that. It is shorter because there are no commercial interruptions.
