From an e-mail dated 12/14/2007 from Michael C Boardman, boardman@us.ibm.com : "1973 VW Thing For Sale $6,000 Or Best Offer...Selling my 1973 VW Thing for $6,000 or best offer. I purchased it a few years ago for a summer beach car for my family. It has been garaged 100% of the time I've had it (stored for the winter each year) and driven lightly each summer. The prior owner put in a brand new engine which only has approx. 2-3k miles on it. I had a brand new custom exhaust installed this year, and a new top this year. Since there was a minor oil drip when I purchased it due to improper seating of gaskets and since my wife threaten to divorce me if any more oil dripped on our garage floor, I had the engine pulled this year and all new gaskets installed and the engine serviced. All fixed. Body has been repainted and is in great shape . . . not "show quality" but very nice. Minor blemishes, none are significant. Definitely catches peoples' eye! I have new floor pans and front seat rails that have not been installed but will be sold with the car. Seats are in great shape with no major tears or rips. One or two minor holes (back seat) but good shape. Also installed new battery this year. Overall, great driver and loads of fun for the family. Feel free to call or email with any questions. From an e-mail dated 10/18/2006 from jgarcia@panynj.gov : "'65 Beetle Vert - Wife Says No to 2 Bugs - $11000 ...My wife says I can't have two Beetles so this one has to go. My kids named it "Strawberry"...This 65 has a 64 factory replacement 1200 40hp fresh air engine with all tin, hoses and fittings in place and working, including the thermostat and flaps. New engine and tranny seals, gaskets, axle boots, pushrod tubes, heater boxes and tranny mounts. The carb and fuel pump are OG and rebuilt. I just checked the clutch last winter and there is plenty of disk left. It has four new tires, a new steering damper and new flexible brake hoses. It has a new canvas top, new boot cover, new interior upholstery and new carpets. The front bumper is a new inexpensive repro, the back is OG 66. The car was previously converted to 12 volts except for the starter and flywheel. I've had no problems starting since I've owned it. It has a non-functioning but cosmetically very clean Sapphire I radio. It has working Bosch backup lights. The "Please Pass" sign is an original 60's item and is included. The tranny shifts very well, but will pop out of second on a very steep downhill...This car has had 9 owners, 8 of them in North Carolina; I have all the previous title information. Previous owners repainted the exterior the original color, replaced the floor pans, and repaired the rusted support rails by welding heavy angle iron to them. The repair worked since the car's doors open and close well. However, eventually (10 years? 20 years?) the rails will have to be replaced. The rails have been sprayed on the inside with Rust Bullet. I will include the new heavy duty replacement rails with the car...You can drive this car for years with no trouble, or you can fix the rails now and drive in the rain with no fear. This car drives well, looks nice, and is just plain fun all around. From the SAAC Webmaster, dated May 2006: "FOR SALE: 1992 Volkswagen Passat GL station wagon--a roomy, utilitarian, yet great-performing, and very driver-friendly little station wagon, with very good fuel economy. My long-time trusted driver has to find a new home, now that I’m getting a newer car… 2.0 liter 4-cylinder, 16v engine, 5-speed manual transmission, power steering. Honest odometer = 171,219 miles. Original clutch with no detectable issues (this has been a mostly highway miles commuter car). 4-wheel disk brakes, with recent new OEM front rotors as of June 2005 (have receipt from VW; I installed them myself). Silver with black cloth interior (upholstery & carpets very nice with no rips or tears; also very nice headliner). Original factory-installed power sunroof (works great), power windows (work great), power driver & front passenger shoulder belt retractors (work great), power outside rear view mirrors (work great). One family owned since new, well cared-for and serviced its entire life. Never any major accidents (and for you VIN-checkers, the VIN = WVWGB4317NE058430). Decent body & paint (a few paint flaws and a few minor dents; virtually no discernable rust); very decent stock exhaust system. Car has an installed receiver hitch, 1 1/4" receptacle (though this car has never been towed-with very much at all—mostly just occasional tow-bar use for moving one of my old Beetles). Car is fitted with early GTI “snowflake” 14” alloy wheels in very nice condition with all hub caps, and with four recently-new Kumho radials, in the stock original equipment size for this car (195/60-14). One spare matching “snowflake” alloy wheel w/o tire also goes with the set. Fully CT-emissions-test-compliant--always has been (latest test April 2005 @ “PASS”). AM/FM/Cassette radio. A/C does not work (may only need recharge?). Brand new battery (May 2006). Recent new parts/servicing by import specialist professional mechanic (have receipts) includes: Full tune-up, new valve cover gasket, new timing belt, new water pump, thermostat & fresh coolant, etc., etc. (@ 169k miles, March 2006), New rear shocks, new ignition switch, full tune-up, coolant flush & renew, etc., etc. (@ 150k miles, November 2004). This car has a lot of very useful life left in it. $2,500. Available extras: Four recently custom-painted stock OEM steel wheels, red (kinda picks up red pinstripe on car), with recently-new new “Fuzion” radials mounted & balanced, in stock size for this car, also with recently-new stainless steel trim rings—all excellent condition. Chrome lug bolts for above. Four studded snow tires mounted & balanced on stock OEM steel wheels, stock size for this car. Or, can substitute either of the above-described wheels/tires sets for the GTI alloys w/Kumhos that are presently on the car. Four original ’92 Passat plastic hub caps that are specifically designed to attach to both sets of above-described OEM steel wheels. Car is located in Branford, CT. Online photo of the car is viewable at: http://members.aol.com/saacregion/CleanPassat13May06LF.JPG . E-mail-able photos are available. WANTED

From the Webmaster's own notes, dated 11/16/2008: "Decent restorable original antique VW wheel rims in size 16" diameter x 3" width. These would've been original equipment on early split window Beetles, pre-1953. I'm looking to assemble a decent set to refinish and use on my 1950 Bug. Definitely would consider singles, pairs, what-have-you. Needing hubcap clips ok too-I am able to reclip. For reference, I've scanned a couple shots of the 16" wheels I'm looking for, from a past refinishing project, which are clickable as follows: two-toned 16" wheel with whitewall tire mounted, two-tone wheel & ww tire on car w/o hubcap, and finally, the same combo mounted on the car, with a hub cap fitted. Thanks for any help in finding any of these 16" VW wheels! Please contact Steve c/o Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, or email CommonGear@aol.com ." (this ad posted 11/16/2007)

From the Webmaster's own notes, dated 10/28/2008: "Any info, old pictures, newspaper articles, race programs, and/or any other items or memorabilia, etc. (originals or copies), pertaining to the Chatham, Massachusetts dune buggy racing scene back in the late 1960s/early 1970s, in the sand pit near the town dump, off of Route 28. I was there as a kid, and would love to reconnect a bit with that old scene. Please contact Steve c/o Shoreline Antique Auto Connection, P.O. Box 3353, Stony Creek, CT 06405, or email CommonGear@aol.com . Thanks!" (this ad posted 10/28/2007)

From the Webmaster's own notes: "I would like to find some Michelin XZX radial tires in size 165R15. Having visited Coker's web site, however, I already know there is no way I can afford new ones. So, I'm hoping I can perhaps gradually assemble a good usable set of used ones. If you are familiar with XZX's, you already know why they are unique and desirable by us "tire-heads." I would call them a true "old school performance radial." THIS IMAGE illustrates the Michelin XZX tread design. A couple of other Michelin XZX images that I gleaned from the internet, to hopefully further illustrate what I'm looking for are viewable by clicking HERE and HERE (that second one being the actual image from the Coker web site). Again, the size I'm looking for is 165R15, and I would also like to steer clear of any age-cracked tires, since I do a fair amount of highway driving with my old '68 VW Bug. If you have, or know of any of this size Michelin XZX avaialble out there in decent, usable (& non-age-cracked) condition--even singles, pairs, etc.--please do drop me an e-mail. Thanks, Steve from SAAC." (this ad posted 8/14/2007)

The engine is in good shape with a brand new exhaust system installed 2 days before the crash. I found a 1987 Vanagon with a blown engine in Stonington CT. I could still drive my Vanagon to Stonington. Do you know of an affordable mechanic in the Stonington area that could swap out my engine into the 1987 Vanagon. The Propmaster is Barbara Kastner, her email is propmiss@aol.com and her cell phone is 516-241-6492. She was able to pay us $150 per day for the use of our cars here in New London, and we've gotten two VW's into the scenes that I know of (my 63 Sunroof Sedan and Rob Bareiss' 70 Bus). From the SAAC Webmaster, this notice is dated April 2006: "…I’m looking for one or more (ideally 4 matching?) antique Porsche 356 A/B wheel rims to restore. They would be 15” diameter by 4.5” wide slotted steel, with a “wide 5” bolting pattern (similar to ’67 & earlier VW), and “D”-shaped slots. I am seeking the painted (rather than the chromed) variety, and hopefully straight and not too rusty (clips missing or broken ok—I am able to re-clip). The goal is to assemble a decent set of four of these, to refinish and use on my own old VW. I am aware there is also a 5.5” wide version, but I’m really looking for the 4.5-inchers. An illustration of the wheel I’m looking for is viewable online at: http://members.aol.com/SAACRegion/356Wheel.jpg ...Thanks! - Steve Mierz, e-mail: commongear@aol.com , home phone: 203-481-1930 (pls. lv. msg.), snail mail: P.O. From a posting to the Shoreline Antique Auto Connection web site's guest book on Wednesday, 2/7/2007; the sender was referred by a search engine, and reported their location to be Hartford, CT: "...Hello, My name is Gina Starks. I am Mrs. New England American Dream 2007. I will be participating in the New Haven St. Patrick's Day Parade in front of 25,000 spectators on March 11th. The parade will air on March 17th to over 600,000 viewers on MyTV Channel 9 in Connecticut. I am interested in teaming up with Shoreline Antique Auto Club for this event. I can provide you essentially free advertising by way of signage (I would provide with use of your logo) on the sides of one of your Antique convertibles or as a banner being walked in front and back of the car. The use of one of your cars in the parade will provide Shoreline Antique Auto Club the opportunity to reach the entire state of Connecticut and let people know more about your antique automobiles. Please feel free to visit my website and the New Haven St. Patrick's Day website to get a better feel for the advertising opportunity that this would provide: http://www.mrsnewengland2007.com - http://www.stpatricksdayparade.org/ . Thank you for your time and feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I look forward to the possibility of working with you! From an e-mail dated 11/21/2007 from reprospectives@heritage-consultants.com : "...Classic Car Storage Facility...A business partner and I are considering starting a classic car storage facility. Both of us are car enthusiasts and both have had issues related to storage in the past, namely inadequate facilities and/or a need to have our own garages clear for off-season projects. I am writing to you with the request that you poll your club members to determine how many (if any) might use such a facility, what amenities they would like to see in the facility, and roughly what they would be willing to pay for the service(s) provided. We envision this facility, at least at this early stage, as containing enclosed, individual parking bays with work benches (as well as outside storage areas if requested), a car wash, detailing services available on request, and a lounge where patrons could meet and exchange information. All of this would of course be subject to 24 hour security. We also have entertained the idea of completing consignment sales of vehicles on site for the facility patrons a their request. Finally, we feel that, if successful, such a facility would be suitable for weekly cruise nights and swap meets. We are currently seeking suitable facilities in the greater Hartford area. We would very much appreciate any input from you and your club members! David George..." Contact: reprospectives@heritage-consultants.com (this ad posted 11/30/2007)
