BODY:
Rnd l: With red, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6)
CROWN:
Join red yarn in 2nd row from front of head and working towards top of head, hold two sides together , ch 2, hdc, dc in lst st, trc in next st, ch 3 sl st in same st. Fasten off. Weave in thread.
BACKGROUND: With black sport and C hook, ch 10, sc 2nd ch from hook and next 3 ch. Hdc, dc, trc, dc, hdc, in next ch, sc to end. Fasten off leaving long end for sewing to head. Sew to head below crown and lower center of front of head.
BEAK:
Using 2 strands of metallic gold thread, 7 hook, ch 4, sc 2nd ch from hook, hdc, dc, trc next ch, dc last ch. Fold in half, whip stitch down side and take threat back to top for sewing to center of black (front).
Sew Black Background to head with bottom of V-point centered pointing to base of neck. Sew Beak to Black where it separates for each side of head/crown.
TAIL:
Row 1: With colonial blue, ch 5, sc in 2nd from hook, sc in each rem. ch across, ch l, turn. (4)
WING 1:
Rnd l: With red ch 12, sc 2nd ch from hook, sc 9, 3sc next sc, working opposite side sc next 9 chains, 2 sc next sc. (24 sc)
WING 2:
Rnd l: Ch 12, sc 2nd ch from hook, sc 9, 3 sc next sc, working opposite side, sc next 9 chs, 2 sc in next sc. (24 sc)
Sew wings to side of bird 1" from head pointing somewhat up and towards tail.
CHRISTMAS GARLAND:
Ch 50 for neck tie in worsted Green, fasten off. Attach artificial flowers to side
of chain. Pattern for holly leaves and berries follows and make same ch and attach
like articifical flowers. Fingering yarn is best if you can find in Christmas green and
red otherwise use Sport/C hook.
HOLLY LEAVES: (make 3)
With C hook and fingering yarn (if available in colors or sport if not), ch 13, sl st
in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next ch, *sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, [dc, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same st] hdc in next ch, rep between [ ] once, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch*, sl st in last ch, turn, working on opposite side of beg ch, rep from * to* one, sl st in each of last 2 chs, sl st in turning ch. Fasten off.
