MATERIALS: Size I hook; Crystal Light canister; red, white, pink and black yarn; red pom-pom (nose); 4 black pom-poms; 1 large white pom-pom; 2 moveable eyes

STITCHES:
Changing colors with hdc: yo with current color, insert hook in next st, yo over and pull through lp, drop current color, pick up new color, yo and pull through all 3 loops.

SANTA FACE/BODY:
With black, ch 33.
HAT
With white, ch 3, join to form a ring.
With red, ch 39, make 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in each ch across, end off. Tie a double knot using the beginning and ending strand. Trim so strands are about ½” long.
BEARD
Ch 3, join to form a ring.
ARMS/LEGS (Make 4)
Ch 15, make 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in each ch across, end off. Tie a double knot using the beginning and ending strand. Do not trim.
FINISHING:
BODY
Attach arms to body in Row 6 about 4 sts from pink sts. Attach legs to Row 1 so that they line up with the pink sts starting in Row 7. You can attach them by inserting strands on arms/legs through the front of the body and tie them in the back. Trim ends to about ½ “.
Wrap body around Crystal Light can. Start with white strands and tie the sides of the body together. Trim or hide the ends of the white yarn. Using a yarn needle and the long leftover red strand, sew the 2 sides of the body together. Tie off at the end of the red part and hide the loose strands. Using the black strands, tie the black part of the body together.
Fold about 1/3 of the beard back making sure to hide the loose ends in the back. Glue on to face just below the pink part. Glue nose just above beard and add 2 moveable eyes. Glue black pom-poms on to the ends of each arm and leg.
HAT
Stretch hat to fit onto the lid of the can. Glue the hat on to the top of the lid only. Take the red spiral and glue it on to the top of the hat shaping it to look like a hat. Glue large white pom-pom to the top.
VARIATIONS: If you don't have a Crystal Light canister you can try using a similar size canister and then adjust the directions accordingly. Also you can make the candy jar without the arms and legs if you prefer.
Row 1: Hdc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, end off leaving about a 6" strand. (31 hdc)
Row 2: Join red, ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), turn, hdc in next 30 hdc. (31 hdc)
Row 3-6: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each hdc across. (31 hdc)
Row 7-9: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next10 sts, join pink in next st, switch to pink on next hdc, hdc in next 6 sts crocheting over red yarn as you go, switch to red on next hdc, hdc in next 12 sts. (12 hdc red, 7 hdc pink, 12 hdc red)
NOTE: In Rows 7-9 you will NOT crochet over the dropped pink yarn but leave it so you can pick it up when you change back to pink in the next row.
Row 8-9: Ch 2, turn, hdc in next10 sts, switch to pink on next hdc, hdc in next 6 sts crocheting over red yarn as you go, switch to red on next hdc, hdc in next 12 sts. (12 hdc red, 7 hdc pink, 12 hdc red) End off after Row 9 leave a 12” strand of red at the end.
Row 10: Join white, ch 2, hdc in next 30 sts, end off leaving about a 6" strand. (31 hdc)
Hide loose ends of pink yarn.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join to top of beg ch-3. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc, join to top of beg ch-3. (24 dc)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each dc, join to top of beg ch-3, end off. (24 dc)
Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join to top of beg ch-3. (12 dc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in next dc, * sc in next dc, 2 sc in next dc; repeat * around, join to top of beg ch-1. (18 sc)
Trim beginning and ending strands so they are about ½” long.
