Lord, Are You There?

        Lord, Are You There?

        The sun came up this morning;

        I know you must be there.

        I heard the cry of a newborn baby;

        I know you must be there.

I saw a rainbow in the sky;

I know you must be there.

A sparrow flew overhead;

I know you must be there.

I smell the scent of the roses;

I know you must be there.

I still have my senses.

I know you must be there.

So now what?

By faith, I live.

By faith, I obey.

By faith, I love.

By faith, I believe.

What comes next?

Why doesn't God intervene more?

Why doesn't he directly feed the hungry,

heal all the sick, and stop all wars?

If God really exists, at the least,

why doesn't he make himself more obvious?

People who ask such questions

often assume that if God ever did

spectacularly reveal himself,

all doubts would vanish.

Everyone would line up to believe in him.

Yes, all the world would believe if

God intervened.

Free will would be no longer.

Fear would take its place.

God wants us to love Him of our own free will,

not because we are afraid.

Revelations 3: 10-12 (NIV)

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently,

I will also keep you from the hour of trial

that is going to come upon the whole world

to test those who live on the earth.

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have,

so that no one will take your crown.

Him who overcomes I will make a

pillar in the temple of my God.

Never again will he leave it.

I will write on him the name of my God

and the name of the city of my God,

the new Jerusalem, which is coming

down out of heaven from my God;

and I will also write on him my new name.
