"Taliesin" was born of "Myrddin" (although I realise that
is not how the legend goes.....) I have always been a big fan of
the "Inchcape" series of Scottish-style trawler-yachts, and wanted to create
something similar. Having drawn "Myrddin", I saw a use for her hullform
on a larger scale.
There is ample room for almost any interior you could
want in a 50-footer, and near-standing headroom is available in the engine
room. She would be perfect for low-impact, low-speed cruising almost
anywhere in the world. Cruising speed would be around 8.5 knots,
and draft is less than 6 feet.
She could be built in wood, fiberglass or steel (round-bilge) and has plenty of displacement available for bullet-proof scantlings. The rig is intended more for steadying than propulsion, but with an ugly headsail (I have drawn one, and it is!) she would be able to get home.
For those with an open mind, I have included a render of "Taliesin" with a Walker Wingsail. Somehow, it works.
