SCA19 - A light-displacement Cruising Mini-yacht

This boat was inspired by the magazine "Small Boat Advisor", which specializes in sub-25' sailing yachts.  These boats always look simple, but the problems of space they bring to a designer are immense.

SCB19 Interior

This shows the interior, looking aft.  The head is hidden under the steps, which may not be perfect, but is at least out of the way.  In a boat this size, any full bulkheads or closed compartments would make the space seem extremely squished, as opposed to just plain small.

There is ample storage space for 3 for a weekend, or for 2 for a couple of weeks.

Propulsion is currently envisaged to be either the ubiquitous (but ugly) outboard on a bracket, or a tiny 6hp Westerbeke under the cockpit.  Practicality says "outboard", but cruising says "inboard".  Time will tell.

SCA-19

Externally, she looks like what she is - a small cruising boat.  No big surprises here.  The draft is currently 4 feet, which seems excessive for a small boat, but allows the displacement to be kept down and the speed to be kept up.

Swept spreaders allow the backstay to be left home, and the sailplan is a simple fractional.

Displacement is planned at just a hair under 2,000lbs, and sail area is 265 sq.ft.  With a LWL of  18.3', the Sail Area/Displacement ratio is 25.6, and the DLR is about 145.
