Welcome all lovers of dachshunds (aka dachsies or wiener dogs)

Do you like dachshunds??? Well, here they come folks!

Since we moved to San Juan island (in Washington state very near the Canadian border) we talked to others with dachshunds here and with the help of Dina Ashlin we got together a group of marching wiener dogs. Over 20 doxies (mostly black and tans this time) paraded in a group at the local Friday Harbor 4th of July celebration.
Here are some new photos from that dachshunds in parade day.

We used to live near Ashland Oregon, where there is a big parade every 4th of July . As Ashland is very well known for its almost year-round Shakepeare festival, it gets almost a million tourists a year as visitors. Every 4th of July many thousands of people come to watch the big parade then listen to concerts at the bandshell in the park. But I sensed something was missing .
I sensed it was lacking wiener dogs on parade

When we moved to Ashland in 1991, I noticed that there were many dachshunds in the town in addition to our wiener dog Wotan. I got the idea to gather as many of these dachsies and their owners as I could, and march together in the parade as "Wiener Dogs on Parade". After putting a blurb into the newspapers calling all dachshund owners, I managed to round up about 20. All of us marched together with our dachshunds in the big holiday parade.

On this page you will see photos taken during 3 years of dachshunds marching. The crowds reaction is quite thrilling as we draw *a lot* of applause and well-meaning laughter. Some of the other dachsie owners dress their wiener dogs up in costumes, but our Wotan and Shakti are too proud for that and march stark naked. We do carry signs, however, telling of our regard for our wiener dogs.

Aftermath The dachsies get a well-deserved rest on some shady cool grass after their long wait and march in the heat of a southern Oregon July.
