"Whaddaya MEAN, 'This is the end of the show'?!?"

Greetings, Citizens!

Say, do you like Space Ghost? I'll just bet you do. Well, my name is Sean Medlock, and recently I was one of the two Grand Prize winners of Cartoon Network's "Haikuin' With Space Ghost" contest. The object was to write a haiku (actually a senryu, if you want to get technical) about why you should be on Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast. And somehow I won. The prize included a trip to Atlanta (Oct. 4-6), accommodations at the Four Seasons hotel, a bunch of spending money, a tour of the Turner Broadcasting complex, lunch with the SGC2C crew, and an interview with Space Ghost that aired this past New Year's Eve at midnight. Well, sort of.

What was my winning haiku, you ask?

I hope I don't win
The rules say to bring a friend
I don't have any

With an attitude like that, is it any wonder?

And now, because I demanded it, here's a picture from that momentous event in human history..

Here I am with George Lowe, the voice of Tad Ghostal himself, right after the interview. (He may have won the eyebrow-arching competition, but my chins earned me top scores from the Russian judge.) I like him. He is nice!

George was always "on"
So weird to hear Space Ghost's voice
Coming from his mouth

For more pictures from my trip, including a picture of the REAL Brak, Zorak, and Moltar, click here.

Well, be sure to check out this site in the weeks to come. I'll be adding some more in-depth stuff about my trip, and whatever else I can think of. And remember, everything on this site is the copyright of Sean Medlock, which is me, so ask first if you want to use any of it. Okay?

Mark those calendars! The episode of The Anti-Gravity Room I'm in will be repeated this Feb. 8 at 9 a.m. EST on the Sci-Fi Channel. Check it out to see me looking even worse than I did on Space Ghost. And I'm on for about the same length of time!

Click here for a transcript of "Public Relations Disaster." I mean "Joshua." The interview with veteran funnyman Tom Arnold is particularly memorable.

This week's edition of NUVO Newsweekly has an article about me and my various haiku ventures, as well as my appearance in the Space Ghost "Joshua" episode. Or as I like to call it, "Afterthought."

If you saw last night's episode (to be replayed Friday night at 11:30), you can understand why I was a "tad" disappointed. Here are my thoughts, in haiku form:

Gosh, what a great show
The word "anticlimactic"
About sums it up

Good Lord, it's not like
I have lots of self-respect,
But that was painful

Wouldn't hurt so bad
If "marketing film" had been...
What's the word? Funny.

Humiliation
I expected, but not such
Blatant indifference

I feel guilty, too
Interviews were too boring
For them to salvage?

Maybe the writers
Were just too worn out to care
About us fan geeks

It's been a long year
57 episodes
Bad luck, being last

I made the mistake
Of thinking those guys liked me
But it's just business

I was as surprised
As anybody, winning
With that dumb haiku

Now I almost wish
I'd never even entered
(Better than nothing...)

Fun, huh? And if you'd like to see a clip of the biggest anticlimax of my entire life, in its entirety, click here. (Big thanks to Robert Waring and Wylde Productions.)

For those of you who saw it, did you like it? Hate it? I think I've made it pretty clear how I felt about it. Well, no matter what your reaction, be sure to make it known to those wonderful people at Ghost Planet Industries by writing them at sgc2c@aol.com.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled naive fan site...

UPDATE: By relatively popular demand, here are some more of my dumb haiku.

ANOTHER UPDATE: I'm now a "correspondent" for the Haiku Headlines of the Day site, as seen in Newsweek and Yahoo! Internet Life, and heard on NPR's All Things Considered. (Those aren't sneer quotes around "correspondent," by the way. It's just that the position involves no actual travel.) Michael Sheinbaum, HHotD's "Haikucaracha," also put up a permanent link to this very page with some nice comments. Want to keep up with current events, but have the attention span of an egret? Then check it out.

(And if you'd like to read some of the ones Michael had the good taste not to publish, click here.)

The 11/25 edition of Aaron Barnhart's excellent Late Show News has a little piece on my trip to the Ghost Planet.

Say, as long as you're wasting precious minutes of your life reading all this, why not check out these links to see how I fritter away my time?

Or maybe you've wondered what the text of an earlier version of this page might look like after being translated into German and then back again using AltaVista. No? Well, click here if you find yourself as bored as I am.

I almost forgot. I'm kinda sorta looking for a new job right now. Would you like to see my resume?

Have a question? Comment? Inept, vituperative haiku? Send it here.

(Special thanks to David Bartley for the pictures, and to Michael Owen for scanning them in.)
