WHO ARE WE? Secaucus BMX is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing our youth with a safe and exciting place to ride their bicycles, while encouraging and developing safe riding skills for on and off the track.
WHAT IS BMX? Bicycle Motocross (more commonly called BMX) is a sport where athletes of all ages power their bicycles over jumps, around banked turns, and up and down hills. This is all done under the sanction of the American Bicycle Association (ABA).
BMX racing is clean, exciting fun that the whole family can get involved in, whether it be as a racer, spectator, pit crew, or track volunteer. BMX has something to offer everyone!
WHO CAN RACE? Races are organized into girls classes and boys classes, then subdivided further into age and skill groups. The age groups range from the 5-year old and under class to the 45 & over class. Within these age groups there are three skill levels: Novice, Intermediate, and Expert. All riders start as Novices and work up to the more advanced levels by winning races.
WHAT KIND OF BIKE DO I NEED? BMX racing does not require a lot of expensive equipment. Most racers start with their 20-inch BMX-type street bike by removing the chain guard, kickstand, and reflectors, and putting some inexpensive padding on the frame, handle bar, and gooseneck.
WHAT OTHER EQUIPMENT DO I NEED? First, a helmet is required. You will also need to wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants, and tennis shoes. For more information about how to get started, see the ABA Web Page .
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RACE? The ABA offers a 30-day trial membership for $15.00 (which can be applied to a full membership if converted within the 30-day trial period). This "get started" membership will let you try your skills at our track and convince yourself that BMX racing is the sport for you.
A full membership for $35.00 is good for one year and entitles you to race at ABA tracks nationwide and earn points each time you race. You will receive a membership card, number plate with numbers, and a monthly magazine (the BMXer), which provides point standings, nationwide race coverage, and BMX news.
Each time you race there is an entry fee of $7.00 that provides your whole family a day of fun and excitement. SPECTATORS ARE FREE!!!! There are three rounds of races that enable you to try to qualify for the Main Event or Trophy Race. In the Main Event all riders receive points, and trophies are awarded to first, second, and third place riders.
HOW CAN I GET STARTED? Visit us on a race day and ask for a membership application. You can watch, talk to other BMX families, or give it a try yourself!
More Information The ABA Web Page has much more information about all aspects of BMX Racing.
