Welcome to my PEI Family Genealogy Research Site. My PEI ancestors immigrated from various counties in Scotland as well as Yorkshire, England. They were mostly farmers in the eastern part of Queen's County, PEI. Below I have indexed synopsis' of the families that I am researching. I am compiling Census information for Lots 29 and 21 and intend to have this online soon. There are also a few links included. Email me with any comments and questions. Return to Home Page. Family Name INDEX: * Trowsdale (Crapaud, PEI - Lot 29) * MacQuarrie (DeSable, PEI - Lot 29) * Maxfield/Appleton (Freetown, PEI - Lot 25/26) * MacKay, MacLeod (New London/Clifton, PEI - Lot 21) * MacLeod (Darlington, PEI - Lot 25)
My Family Research Details: Trowsdale / Truesdale (Crapaud, Lot 29, PEI) Issac Trowsdale immigrated from North Riding, Yorkshire, England to Crapaud, PEI, Canada between 1817 and 1828. He married Hannah Maxfield in Bedeque, PEI, Canada, in 1828. And had a son Stephen Trowsdale in 1829. Issac later married Mary MacDonald, also of Crapaud, and had a daughter Hannah. I believe that Issac may be the son of Joseph Trowsdale, who immigrated to Crapaud in 1817 aboard the Valiant. Stephen Trowsdale married Isabella MacQuarrie of DeSable, PEI on May 22, 1856. They had 6 children, several of the children immigrated to Massachusetts, USA around the turn of the century. Their children were: Issac Alonzo, Sarah Ann, John Alexander, James Henry, Hannah J., and Joseph Robertson. Links

MacQuarrie (Desable, Lot 29, PEI) There are at least three MacQuarrie families in DeSable and Crapaud, PEI in the early 1800's. I believe they all came from Argyll and probably from the Isle of Mull. I am unsure how these families are related, but am researching the possibility. John MacQuarrie of DeSable,
PEI
Children:
Alexander and Isabella (MacArthur) MacQuarrie of Isle of Mull, Argyllshire, Scotland are most likely Flora MacQuarrie's parents. They immigrated to PEI in 1806 aboard the Brig Humphreys with six children. They settled between Crapaud and DeSable. Their children were:
Hector MacQuarrie age 23 immigrated to PEI from Mull, Scotland in 1808 with Lachlan age 21 and Margret age 60. It is unknown at this time how they are related to the above two families, however, it seems likely that they are related. Hector was married to Margret/Mary and had several children: Allan, Alex S., Jane and at least 4 other female children. MacQuarrie Links
(most from PEI and Nova Scotia from 1870-1905)
Maxfield / Appleton (Freetown, PEI - Lot 25/26) John Maxfield and Hannah Appleton were married in 1791 in Full Sutton, Yorkshire, England. They had Hannah Maxfield born 1804 and Richard born 1800; both in Alne, Youlton. Another child I believe is Timothy Maxfield christened in 1803 in Alne. The family moved to Bedeque, PEI, Canada around 1810-1818. Hannah Maxfield married Issac Trowsdale in 1828. I believe Hannah Appleton was born around 1763, possibly to James Appleton. I believe John Maxfield's parents might be Richard and Ann Maxfield. MacKay / MacLeod(New London/Clifton, PEI - Lot 21) William MacKay immigrated from Sutherlandshire, Scotland around 1841. William was living in New London, PEI when he married Mary MacLeod of Darlington, PEI in 1850. They had the following children:
Mary MacLeod MacKay married William MacKay in 1850. She was born in Scotland and immigrated to the Scottish Settlement around 1840. I believe the town was Darlington, PEI. Her father could have been William MacLeod, as he was a witness at her wedding (this could also be her brother instead).
