No sound
What?! No music's playing!?
If you don't hear anything, you either don't have speakers hooked up to your machine, or you may not have sound enabled on your web browser. If you don't have speakers, I can only recommend to buy a cheap pair for $10. If you have speakers, I don't use Netscape, but here is how you fix the problem using Microsoft Internet Explorer:
On the menu, click "View." Select "Options..." On the "General" tab, it
will list pictures, sounds, and videos, each with a box next to it. To facilitate quicker loading of Web Pages, you may have elected to not automatically load pictures, sounds, and videos. In this case, there will be no check marks in those boxes. To enable the sounds, click on the white box next to sounds.
If you did this, and the music still does not play, or sounds poor, you will need to configure your sound card for the proper output. If you don't have a sound card at all, you will not hear anything regardless.
In Windows 3.1, as I recall, you can open your Control Panel and there may be an icon labeled Midi Mapper." You will need to route your sound through MIDI Out (as opposed to OPL3 or FM synthesizer). In Windows 95, open your Control Panel, select the Multimedia icon, click on the MIDI tab, and for MIDI Output, select Single Instrument, External MIDI Port (if you have this option--NOT FM Synthesizer or OPL3). This will only enhance the sound quality if you have a wavetable card or software to emulate wave synthesis.
If the music plays, but is not very good quality:
I recommend downloading Yamaha's Soft Synthesizer, the S-YXG50. You can
find it here: YAMAHA XG : S-YXG50 Download Page. You must have Windows 95 or better, and at least a Pentium 166 with 16 megs of RAM, I think. Consult the Yamaha site for details. The S-YXG50 software will help your computer sound like mine sounds with the wavetable installed.
