Dear Resident
of High Brooms, Southborough, Bidborough, Speldhurst, and Langton Green

There will be elections on 3 May 2001 - for the Kent County Council and, possibly, to elect a new Government.

We will all be facing crucial choices about which policies we want for the economy, transport, the environment, education, health, pensions and the social services. Your local Labour Party wants to play its part in contributing to policy making - and in electing people who will truly represent the local area.

We want to be a branch that

  • Puts substance above spin or jumping on the latest political bandwagon
This means that we will back up our positions and policies with reasoned arguments and be open to counter arguments and criticism

  • Listens to people
This is why we are including a questionnaire seeking your views. We want our communication with the public to be interactive, not just one way.

  • Acknowledges that the more we listen, the more conflicting the views and opinions we will hear
This means that we cannot please everybody, but have to take a balanced political position. We will be honest about how we arrive at this balance.

Please help us to help you

We need new members who can give a little of their time to develop policies and help get Labour’s message across. We also need donations to support our local campaigning. We do not receive a single penny of the £millions which the national Labour Party receives, and it costs us £400 to deliver 3 leaflets to each of the 6500 homes in the Kent County constituency of Southborough.

Over the next few months we plan to have a fun campaign. If you support what Labour is doing and fear the damage that a William Hague led Tory government could do to the country - please return the form below or contact me now on : Tunbridge Wells 517301 or email SouthboroLabour@aol.com
