America's Most Controversial Drug Rehab

I HAVE FINALLY FINISHED MY BOOK.

This book is available to read ON-LINE at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/straight_inc_alumni It is located in the FILES section of Yahoo! Groups.

This on-line book details my personal experience in Straight, Inc. as a client, 7th Stepper, Officer and Group Staff Member.

I started writing this manuscript in January 2001 and after many years it is finally completed.

Why Write, Why Now?

I was there. I can tell you what happened behind the closed doors of Straight, Inc. from a Clients perspective. Not only that, but I have the unique background and experience to go beyond that and write about what went on behind the doors in after-care sessions as an Officer and President. I can give you insight to what it was like being on Staff at Straight, Inc. It's not what you may think.

Although, I certainly am not the only one to have the experience I have, I am willing to tell my story.

Other former Clients I have met over the last year have had some bad experiences in Straight, Inc. This manuscript will give an insight to the therapy, and treatment methods used at Straight, Inc. and how my experience differs from those who claim mental, physical, and emotional abuse. I do not discredit their experiences, they concern me. However, my story is my own. From the perspective of a Client who needed the help, and did what I had to do to get straight.

Today my personal views of the program have changed drastically. I no longer view Straight as the life saving rehab I once thought it was. It was highly destructive and caused a lot of people to suffer needlessly.

My Involvement In Straight, Inc.

I voluntarily entered Straight, Inc. in St. Petersburg, Florida on November 28, 1981. I spent my first 39 days there.

I was one of the original 55 Clients that opened the Cincinnati, Ohio branch on January 6, 1982.

I 7th Stepped Straight, Inc. on November 19, 1982. I went on to serve as an Officer and President of the 7th Step Society. I also served an agonizing 7 months as a Group Staff Member. I resigned my position after completing my Staff Training Internship in April 1984. I attended the final Cincinnati Straight, Inc. Open Meeting in 1988.

Today I am the Founder of Straight Inc. Alumni which strives to help others find former Clients of Straight, Inc. See link below.
