KNOWN CIVIL WAR GRAVES AT MAPLEWOOD
On July 1, 1902, the
followning article appeared in the local Charlottesville newspaper, The Daily
Progress.
CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS
Who Are Interred in Maplewood
Cemetery.
At the request of the committee ap-
pointed by John Bowie Strange Camp
C. V., below is printed the list of Con-
federate soldiers buried in Maplewood.
This is done in order to ____ the
list. The committee will be obliged
if persons who know of errors in names
or ommissions will report to Mr. R. W.
duke, chairman, at the City clerk's
office. The object in getting this list is
to have suitable stones placed at the
graves of those unmarked. The list
follows...
The article goes on to list 104 names and that list forms the core of the
following roster. All names in bold are from the 1902 article.
I have added names from information taken directily from
headstone inscriptions recorded during the Maplewood inventory conducted in
2001-2002. Names continue to be added, or corrections mades, as they are found
in pension rolls, obituaries, published regimental rosters, etc. Even discovered some YANKEES too!!
Special thanks to Kathleen from Falmouth VA for providing info from 19th and
46th VA rosters. She discovered this project on the web and took the time to email
me and get involved.
