Are you here to learn about Disco? Oooops, you're at the wrong site. My "Pad" is for rock history from the 50's forward to the 70's, once in awhile I even peek in at the 80's. But at no time do I plan to include Disco. I know today they tell our children the 70's was the disco decade. But that just ain't so!!!! Remember the 70s? streaking? pet rocks ? mood rings? P.O.W. braclettes? Oct.5,1969 29 years ago Dianne Linkletter, daughter of TV personality Art Linkletter and an aspiring actress, leaps to her death from her West Hollywood apartment. Linkletter claims his daughter was under the influence of LSD at the time of her apparent suicide. He says "it isn't suicide, it's murder."

Dec.21,1970 27 Years Ago In what will become quite the photo-op, Elvis Presley goes to the White House to volunteer his services to President NIXON on fighting the nation's drug problems. He gives NIXON a chrome-plated Colt .45 while Tricky Dick gives him a Narcotics Bureau badge. May,11,1972 26 years ago John Lennon tells Dick Cavett during an appearance on his show that he beleives he has been followed and has had his phone tapped. In the meantime, a National Committee for John & Yoko continue its drive for letters and petitions opposing the U.S. government's attempt to deport the couple. July,18,1974 24 years ago The U.S. Justice Department orders John Lennon out of the country by September 10. The Immigration and Naturalization Service denies him an extension of his non-immigrant visa because of his guilty plea in England to a 1968 marijuana possesion charge. Jan.2nd,1975 22 Years Ago U.S. District Court Judge Richard Owen rules in New York, John Lennon and his lawyers will have access to Department of Immigration files pertaining to his deportation case. Its allows the former Beatles to look into whether the government's case against him is from his 1968 British drug conviction or from his anti-establishment comments during the years of the NIXON administration. July,27,1976 22 years ago John Lennon receives his green card, granting him permanent residency status in the U.S. His fight to obtain the card had begun four years earlier.

The band and Roth had gotten back together in June after an 11 year separation...Roth recorded a couple of songs for the groups greatest hits package, and then was given his walking papers...Roth was the second lead singer to depart the band this year...Sammy Hagar was booted in June. Roth faxes an open letter to the press saying his appearance on MTV with the band was a publicity stunt orchestrated by the band and that the other members had no intentions of letting him back in.

As a result of the experience, he writes "Garden Party" which makes it to #6 in October 1972. A line from the song, "If memories are all I'd sing, I'd rather drive a truck." (gotta tell you I see Rick & this song differently now) Sept,15,1973 25 years ago The Supreme Court decides by a 7-2 vote to refuse to review a 1971 Federal Communications directive that broadcasters, in effect, censor from the airwaves songs with drug-oriented lyrics. The two dissenting votes are cast by Justices William J. Brennan and William O. Douglas, who say, "The government cannot, consistant with the First Admendment, require a broadcaster to censor its music".
