Hi, and welcome to my page devoted to the Houston punk and ska scene. We have a great scene here thanx to bands like:
LosSkarnales, Bickley, Injury, TheSuspects, Middlefinger,Latch Key Kids, RiverFenix, Supermarket All-Stars and especially 30footFALL. We even have a great rap band(the only rap i like) I-45 featuring Crazy Tony of Broken Note Records !
INFO ON THE SCENE
*On Friday October 10th 1997 Bickley created a new cult, The Legion of Beer. For info on joining contact Grand Puba, Dave Wreckoning.
*Bill Fool is not leaving Bickley! That Dynamite Boy thing didn't happen and there is even more good news. Bill will be the fulltime bassist for a new band called the Legion of Beer. It is Bickley with Bill as a fulltime bassist and will feature loads of surprises.
*Well if you haven't heard the Supermarket All-Stars aren't the Allstars anymore. They are now last summer and no longer play ska! Last Summer is really good though and I am not disappointed with the new band at all.
*Bickley's new stuff sounds good and the cd should be out in late september.
*Los Skarnales has lost their bassist who has left the band(I assume) to focus full time on his other band Thanx But No Thanx. They are a pop-punk band that is really talented.
*Eye Against has gotten a shitload better since I first saw em.
*Rhino from Latch Key Kids has a new band called Fat Chance. They fucking blew me away when I saw em and you should definetly check em out.
*There is a radio station out in Sugarland that plays all punk, ska, and rockabilly. They play alot of local bands too and those that fit in the above categories should e-mail me for the info. Send your stuff in and it will probably get played.
*Riverfenix is not moving to California and for those of you who have not heard they recently toured with Reel Big Fish(eww) and are going to tour with Blink 182 and Less Than Jake.
*Ponyboy has already broken up and Dale is gone and they never released a cd but ron is planning on releasing the demos on vinyl and they might be making more shirts since there is such a demand now.
*Fitzgerald's in not turning into a blues and jazz bar. They are however remodeling and during the remodeling they will have shows every once in awhile. Robbie says to check the Houston Press for show info.
*Too Hep records is going to release a cd of all of the songs the Supermarket All Stars ever recorded and some time in the future Last Summer(Ex- All Stars) will be releasing their first cd on Drive Thru Records.
*Thanx But No Thanx will be releasing a cd soon when they work out some details with the people pressing them.
*Butch from 30footFALL might be going to a prom this year. More details as they come.
PROBLEMS WITH LINKS:
It has come to my attention that some of the links arent working and I know why. I dont know how to fix it but I know what is wrong. On certain links like the All-Stars and 30footFALL and others it shows my address first then the correct address. So when you go to the site just delete my address and you will go there.
HERE ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF SOME HOUSTONS FINER PUNK AND SKA BANDS AND A LINK TO THEIR SITE IF THEY HAVE ONE
The Suspects:
The Suspects play very energetic and somewhat traditional ska. They have two albums out Nintey Nine Paid and How I Learned to Stop Worying and Love the Ska. I am very pleased to say that Bill from the Suspects has visited my page and I dont know exactly what his message on my guestbook means.I think it says he likes the page! The Suspects are an eight-piece ska band from Houston. Since their first show at Hoi Polloi on October 1st 1993, The Suspects have been giving their all to the Houston scene. This was stolen from The Suspects Ska Page .
Supermarket All-Stars:
The All-Stars are very hyper when they play live. They dont play too much ska they are more like punk rock with horns which is not bad at all. These guys are friends of Less Than Jake and if that isnt enough to check em out I dont know what is. They are now Last Summer and there is a description later on.
Supermarket All-Stars
Middlefinger:
Matt Kelly from funk/ska band Sprawl is the singer for this band. He has very odd and catchy lyrics and a very very talented band to go along with it. I mean they always out do themselves at each show. They won band of the year in the Public News Poll for 1998 and I think that is one of the few legitamate decisions that the voters made. Middlefinger
Bickley:
Bickley is a very obnoxious punk rock band(I mean they sing about fucking the pink power ranger!). Their songs stem from sex with super-heroins, white trash girls, and high school porno stars. What more do you want in a punk rock band? Plus they have a new cult called the legion of beer. Bickley is by far the best punk band in Houston and the new album is gonna fucking rule!!
Bickley Home Page
Latch Key Kids:
One of the best punk bands in Houston. They bring very hard and fast songs along with deep lyrics together. This band gets the crowd going all the time and recently released their first cd. The OFFICIAL Latch Key Kids homepage!
RiverFenix:
No it is not the dead actor dumbass this is the best pop-punk band in Houston. They are best when seen live, singer Chato Smooth(now the Silky Smooth Ninja) is funny as shit!. They play pop-punk with a bit of gangsta lyrics in it. This is a great band that will hopefully be around forever.Damon from 30footFALL plays guitar in this band too!So now you have no excuse to not give em a listen. The Official River Fenix Home Page and Strumpits did that page.
Los Skarnales:
This spanish punk/ska band used to be Desorden(when they were full punk). But now they play some surf music and a little ska and oh yes spanish punk rock.I have heard that this band is in $ troubles so go to all their shows and help em out!
30footFALL:
The most popular and voted greatest punk rock band in Houston. These guys are very good at what they do and what they do is piss of those they dont like. Butch is hated by many(and loved as well). This band has social conscious lyrics and the hard driving music and attitude to back it up.
30 foot FALL
I-45:
I-45 are the Devo of rap. They play slip-hop music with really funny lyrics. And one of the members of this band is renouned for having big balls.A treat for the females eh? My I-45 page is finally up so here is the link. It's I-45... I hope you enjoy it! Plus there are two more pages for em!!! I-45 : The Outlaws Of Rap and I-45.
The Hates:
Known as "one of houston's first and last punk bands", the HATES have been in existence for 17 years. Starting as Guyana Boy's Choir, the band soon became known as the Hates, which was formed by Christian Arnheiter and Robert Kainer. Rather See You Dead was their 1st release which was followed by others such as the "Contaminated Disc", a German Import, Panacea, Five, Xenophobia, New World Oi!, Texas Insanity, and the Greatest Hates CD. Their 10th release has recently been recorded on a 7" and should be releases in the near future. The Hates are defintely a band with history who is dedicated to creating a great sound and playing awesome shows for a long time to come.- Done by Loni and she is the best.
Last Summer:
Formerly know as the Supermarket Allstars this band is pretty much like the Allstars in the sense of real cathcy pop punk and great horns. No they dont play ska but the horns are still great. I can't decide which band is better though. Last Summer
Fat Chance:
Rhino's new band and it is a good one. Really catchy pop-punk with Rhino on vocals and he honestly does a great job. Not much else to say except they are fucking incredible.
Thanx But No Thanx:
This band for some reason seems to remind me alot of Face to Face but they still have a great sound. The lyrics complement it very well and every member of the band has great talent.
Speakeasy: This band is really fucking awesome! The whole band is extremely skilled and they sound great. It is like a cross of Lagwagon and I don't know what else right this moment but it will come to me. You must go check this band out whenever you can.
Ponyboy: One of the best bands outta Houston. Ponyboy combines happy sounding pop-punk with dark lyrics about betrayal and lies. The performances are really great cause Alan and Dale really get into it. Ron just stands there. I miss Ponyboy already and hope they will release some stuff soon. Ponyboy
The Vent-O-Lators: This is a third wave ska band that actually sounds pretty and they even got a white boy that can rap. The horns are tight and the band is enjoyable to watch just because they have so much fun on stage.
