Mom's Mentionings

Congratulations to my Sweet Pea, Lacey!  On Monday May 11, 1998, Lacey earned her Canine Good Citizen Certificate (CGC) on her (and my!) very first try.

Lacey is my baby.  She lives to give kisses and be with people.  Though I'm sure I'll have many more dogs in my lifetime, I doubt that any of them will ever be able to take the place in my heart that she has.  Lacey was older than Chloe was (16 wks. vs. 6 1/2 wks.) when I got her, and already weighed 40 lbs.  The biggest dog I'd had prior to her was less than 20 lbs. full grown!  We started obedience classes right away, and she has turned into a well-behaved (most of the time <G>) big baby.  She has a small stubborn streak, but complies with most requests with a little coaxing.  She learns quickly, and has taught me many things in the short time I have had her.  She makes me smile on days when I don't really feel like smiling, and she follows me from room to room, always ready to cuddle. It pains me that when some people see us, they cross to the other side of the room, street, etc to avoid us, for her biggest goal in life seems to be to give everyone (especially kids) kisses.  Unfortunately, Rottweilers have gotten a bad reputation due to ignorance and mistreatment by some breeders and owners, and my precious girl has to pay for it.  It's true, I had no knowledge of the breed when I got Lacey...I just got really lucky.  I have since done my research and advise anyone who is considering getting a dog  of any kind (especially a large dog) to do the same, only *before* you get a dog,  and not take the chances I took  Afterall...you might not get so lucky.
