DEACON DANIEL SPOONER
SON OF EXPERIENCE WING AND SAMUEL SPOONER

Deacon Daniel Spooner (Experience Wing, Daniel Wing, Rev. John, Matthew), born December 28, 1694 at Dartmouth, died 1797 at Petersham, Franklin Co., Massachusetts at the age of 103. Daniel Spooner would become known as Deacon Daniel Spooner.

According to the New England Families Genealogical and Memorial: Third Series, Volume IV , Page 1793, Daniel moved from his native town of Dartmouth to Newport, Rhode Island, where he was admitted a freeman in May of 1732. Daniel and one of his brothers were house carpenters there. Daniel later moved to New Bedrod and then to Hardwick, Massachusetts, before 1748. In 1750 Daniel was in Petersham and in that year was chosen deacon of the church. Daniel also held various town offices. Deacon Daniel Spooner was reported as very vigorous, even in his old age and after the age of ninety he went to Vermont on horseback to visit his sons.

Deacon Daniel Spooner was married three times. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Ruggles on October 10, 1728 at Dartmouth. Elizabeth was born October 21, 1710, the daughter of John Ruggles and Hannah Devotion. Elizabeth died August of 1767 at Petersham, Franklin Co., Massachusetts at the age of 56. On September  3rd of 1768, Deacon Daniel married his second wife, Bethia Nichols. His third marriage was to Mary Whitcomb Dean on October 16, 1780. Mary was born October 9, 1727 and died May 9, 1822 at the age of 94.

Deacon Daniel Spooner and Elizabeth Ruggles had the following children:

1. Lucy Spooner, born October 29, 1729, died April 2, 1821 at the age of 91. Married Edward Ruggles on January 29, 1747/48. Edward was born Agust 30, 1723, the son of Timothy Ruggles and Mary White. Edward died May 21, 1778 at the age of 54.

2. Elizabeth Spooner, born January 14, 1730/31, died November 27, 1756 at the age of 25. Married Daniel Fay on May 18, 1749.

3. Phillip Spooner, born December 23, 1733, died September 30, 1826 at the age of 92. Phillip was married twice. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Winslow on December 26, 1759. Elizabeth was born May 4, 1737, the daughter of Kenelm Winslow and Elizabeth Clapp. Elizabeth died April 8, 1792 at the age of 54. Phillip's second marriage was to Eunice Trow on March 8, 1795. Enice was born May 15, 1737, the daughter of Samuel Trow. Eunice died May 30, 1830 at the age of 93.

4. Shearsjahub Spooner, born August 14, 1735.

5. Ruggles Spooner, born march 24, 1736/37, died in 1831 at the age of 94. Ruggles married Mehitable Nye on January 19, 1793. Mehitable was born in 1763, the daughter of Joshua Nye and Lydia Unknown. Mehitable died September 1, 1855 at the age of 92.

6. Wing Spooner, born December 29, 1738

7. Eliakim Spooner, born April 7, 1740, died January 3, 1820 at the age of 79. Eliakim married Bathsheba Warner on September 2, 1764. Bathsheba was born July 24, 1746, the daughter of Jonathan Warner and Bathsheba Unknown. She died January 29, 1831 at the age of 84.

8. Daniel Spooner, born December 10, 1741, died November 1828 at the age of 86. Daniel married Abigail Munroe on November 18, 1766. Abigail was born March 7, 1744/45, the daughter of William Munroe and Sarah Mason. Abigail died in 1846 at the age of 101.

9. Hannah Spooner, born June 25, 1743

10. Paul Spooner, born March 20, 1745/46 at Petersham, Franklin Co., Massachusetts, died September 5 at Paoli, Orange Co., Indiana at the age of 43. Paul was married twice. His first marriage was to Anna Cogswell Post. His second marriage was to Asenath Wright in 1769.
