be espousing the particular microchip their business has selected to
implant, most of what they say about one microchip applies to its competitors,
as well.

Reasons to choose microchipping: Keeping in mind that all pets do need one or another form of permanent identification, consider first that microchipping is both the newer and the more high tech of the two methods.
The rest of the world is going high tech, so why not pet identification? Every day, a manual method of doing something is replaced by a high tech method, and can you guess the reason? Generally, the high tech method is going to have some distinct advantages; pet microchipping is no exception to this rule.
And microchipping is already required in some places now, such as Hickam AFB in Hawaii for all pets, and in Novato CA, for all cats.
What to watch for in considering microchipping: While there are some disadvantages to microchipping, if you review them you'll see that they are all resolvable problems that will go away in time, when microchipping has really caught on. The answer is not to abandon microchipping simply because it hasn't already caught on, but to help it catch on by participating.
Fortunately, municipalities such as Seattle and Los Angeles and individual shelters & humane societies such as Benton Franklin, Sonoma County and Quinte are beginning now to include microchipping in the cost of adopting their pets.
