The original ancestor of this family of which there was George Spade, who was born in Germany and served with the Hessian soldiers in the Revolutionary war and later settled in Snyder county, Pa. Of the original family the descendants have been able to trace eight and their first settlement in this country was as follows: John and Henry Spade settled in Pickaway county, Ohio, George Spade in Harrison county, Ind., and in later years spent about one year on the farm now owned by the county and known as the Infirmary farm, Jacob Spade near Clyde, Ohio, David Spade in Franklin county, Ohio, Fred Spade in Seneca county, Ohio, and Daniel near Vanlue in this county. One daughter married a man by the name of Pletcher and settled near Marion, Iowa. All record of the other daughter, named Lucinda, has been lost.
