Alf and Frieda Liby had a chicken farm (one of the first caged chicken houses in the area) south of Bluffton in the 1950's, according to (Mary Ann's) Thomas Liby at the 1996 Liby reunion. Before that, he was a door to door salesman of housewares. He had a fancy cane, a big diamond ring, and hat.
MARRIED 50 YEARS -- Mr. and Mrs. Al Liby, 348 West Horton St., will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house reception from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, [1976] at the Old Salem United Methodist Church, 3 1/2 miles southeast of Reiffsburg. Mr. Liby is a retired salesman and Mrs. Liby a retired school teacher. They were married Aug. 25, 1926 in Orlando, Fla. It is requested that gifts be omitted.

Retired Schoolteacher, Mrs. Frieda Liby, Age 90, Dies
A resident of Swiss Village since 1979, Mrs. Frieda Liby, 90, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the care facility where she served on the welcoming committee.
Born June 29, 1902 in Nottingham Township, she was a daughter of Frank and Emma Thomas Hinchman. Her marriage was Aug. 25, 1926 in Orlando, Fla. to Alvie A. Liby, who died in December 1983.
A member of the Old Salem United Methodist Church and a graduate of Petroleum High School, she attended Tri State and Ball State Teachers College. Mrs. Liby taught third and fourth grades in Nottingham Twp., Daytona Beach, Fla. and also nine years at the Vera Cruz opportunity school.
She was a member of the National and Indiana Retired Teachers Associations and worked 12 years as a social worker for the Wells County Department of Public Welfare. She was a past president of the Bluffton Business and Professional Women's Club and former member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Edna Gable of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews, including Fred Grandlienard and Brooks Grandlienard, both of Bluffton, and Mrs. Sherman (Ruth) Neuenschwander of Berne.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thoma-Rich Funeral Home, where services will be officiated by Rev. Jerry Stout at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will take place in Alberson Cemetery.
Preferred are memorials to the Old Salem United Methodist Church.
