Awaken Sleeping Giant Prayer

Good evening and welcome everyone! This is Philip Burley speaking. This is our sixth Awaken the Sleeping Giant conference call. Our next conference calls will be on Wednesday, February 1st and Thursday, February 2nd, 2006. Please look for the content of tonight's meeting in your email.

In the coming days all conference call contents will be available on our website at www.AwakenSleepingGiant.org as well as many of your letters. I hope you go there and read them as they are a great source of knowledge and inspiration. You can see, hear and feel the presence of God working in this group and among us through the personal sharing found in your wonderful letters. Keep your letters coming!

      ... the prayer condition is a steady reminder of the potential we all have to do greatness in our lives. And greatness is most often found in small ways - unnoticed, unacclaimed, unrecognized in the activity of daily life. Thanks to all who are participating in this effort.

Dear Philip, 
      [The] first expo is this Sunday. I made up 200 copies [of the Awaken Sleeping Giant prayer project] for distribution. It is a spiritual conference so hopefully many will take up the cause.
      [The] next expo is scheduled the end of March and I will do the same then. I am enjoying the conference calls. The group energy is uplifting.  Continued success in your work.

Dear Philip,
      I just want to thank you for doing the prayer twice a week. It really shows your tremendous commitment to this prayer and it has allowed us to join in synchronous prayer at least once a week and sometimes even twice a week. I feel honored to be part of your group.
      I also wanted to request that our capital city of Austin be added to your list of cities. (And it has been added starting this week.) Needless to say, I believe that many of our state leaders in that city could greatly benefit from receiving a little extra love-light from God by mentioning Austin during our prayer.
      Lastly, I wanted to report to you that last Wednesday, I invited people to my house and we listened to you over a speaker phone. We had six people here in addition to myself. And I will be having people over from now on.
      I thank God for people like you that are so committed to awakening the US and the world to the Light of God.

Thank you Philip for your email this morning about this week's conference call.  I plan to participate on this week's call. I regret I have been unable to participate for a few weeks but I will correct that problem now.
      I want you to know how much I appreciate and acknowledge your efforts to make a difference on an energy level to positively impact this country and the disturbing directions we have been moving toward over the last few years.
      I believe more and more people are beginning to recognize the importance of this kind of work.  One of my personal goals has been to work on myself at that level of energy and I am finding it has been positively impacting my life in surprising ways.

Opening Prayer

Our dear Father, in and of ourselves we are not very significant. But because we are your living temple or the temple in which you live on earth, we can do great things if you want or need us to. This gathered group, whether on the phone or not, is a significant group of your people. If they did not have a heart of caring, a heart of love and mercy they would not be praying as they are for our nation. Because of their concentrated effort in caring-through praying regularly for America-you  can use them to go beyond their present lives and circumstances. I am sure you are visiting all of them in a special way these days as you feel gratitude and are bringing spiritual blessings to them. Their steady flow of letters indicates that this is universally so. Thank you for your blessings and thank you that such people live in our land.                                         Again tonight, Father, we are gathered to walk together on a common path and to buoy up our spirits through the rallying point of a telephone conference. I know you will be with us throughout this whole experience. Thank you Father, we bless you with our heart-felt gratitude and love as you have blessed us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Opening Talk

On Love and Prayer

It is beautiful weather here in Phoenix, Arizona. It is that time of year when we Arizonians relish our weather as it feels like heaven on earth!

Before sitting down to write this talk for this week's conference calls, I just had to get out in the sunshine and sweet fresh air of the day. When I went out the temperature was hovering around 75 degrees. The flowers in our backyard are a suffusion of color and as I wrote I could smell the wonderful fragrance of flowers in the air as it came in through the open door into my room.

As I have observed all this beauty of the Arizona winter I thought to myself, "Well, you must have beauty in you in order to recognize it in Mother Nature. It follows that what we are we see in others and vice versa, which leads me to talk about each one of you.

Mankind Needs Mankind

Life is not about words or intellectual concepts. That is not where we truly "live." We live in the "feelings" of our life as experienced in beauty, in the personalities and characters of our spouse, our family, our friends and the world in general. Take away people and their innate goodness and beauty and life on earth would seem empty. Even as I sat writing this talk for tonight, I could hear the hum of cars passing some distance away on Greenway, a major thorough fare through Phoenix. That hum may be annoying to some but to me it is the sound of people passing near and through my life.

Did you ever go to a fair or carnival when it is fairly empty of people and there is no standing in line for rides or events? Of course you have.  But did you ever notice that there is a feeling that something is missing like atmosphere, the chatter and laughter of people, the soft nudging and pushing in occasional crowds? Without people what would this world be like?

Life is lived in our hearts and when that is not happening-either due to the fact that we are having to concentrate on intellectual things or when others are absent in our lives-we feel empty and even lost. Did you ever think that the reason God created more than Adam and Eve was for universal brotherhood and friendship? Mankind needs mankind.

Giving to Others We Bless Ourselves

What am I leading to? First, many of you are writing to tell me of what a meaningful, even spiritually awakening experience you are having by doing your prayers to awaken the giant of America. What kind of people are you? You are caring people. This means you are kind people and it means you are innately, loving people. Birds of a feather do flock together. This oneness of spirit with other kind, caring, loving and spiritual people has an unconscious effect of lifting our spirits. But it is more than this.

Recently I had a client that seemed quite lost in herself. I could see that to her own determent she was the very center of her life or so it sounded. But I personally saw something missing. She had all the beauty and greatness in her as do all of God's children have for we are made in God's image and likeness. The woman I am speaking about is a potential Jesus as you and I are when we live our life to the fullest and thus realize our full Christ Presence potential. But what does it take?

Many people are like great bodies of water that have an inlet to let the water in but are filled with themselves which generates stagnation, loneliness, and an unhealthy mental state. And like bodies of water that have an inlet they also need an outlet to let the water out that there may be a continuous flow of water through the whole body of the lake, keeping it clean, clear, pure, and healthy. Without a filter and a circulation system on swimming pools and saunas green algae forms and the pool becomes useable.

It is no different in human existence. You must give out to get back and you must keep giving out to keep the waters of a healthy mind and spirit flowing through your being. This is not just a nice aphorism it is a spiritual law. And any time in your life you are not doing so well emotionally and spiritually it is probably because you are centering on your happiness and not on that of others as well.

The Secret to a Happy Life

The secret to a happy life is to give out of your life into others' lives. Applying this principle to life can help clear up not only the daily doldrums of life but can move you to a whole new place of existence beyond where you have ever been before.

When I am down I may, like all of you, grope around to find my bearings, to get out of my mood but because I understand the law of giving and receiving, I quickly apply it to my life by reaching out to others. Very quickly then my self-concern, any depression or moodiness or unhappiness goes away. As my energies (my waters of life) flow out to others, it creates a space for new energies to flow in.

In this prayer condition that we are doing together, if you are applying yourself it cannot help but change your life. Based upon this spiritual law of giving and receiving, of allowing your prayer energies to flow out to others that new energies can flow into your existence is bound, by spiritual law to bless you and raise you up to a higher spiritual level.

Four Reasons Why We Are Changed

In addition, think of it: 

First, this is not just an ordinary prayer condition. Our nation is truly struggling to awaken from its present situation in the economic, educational, political, social and spiritual arenas of life. And on top of it, each of these arenas overlaps the others.

Secondly, an angel came from God himself to tell someone about our nation and the predicament it is in as it slumbers away while its very foundations of existence are being eaten away.

Throughout human history God has sent angels only when man did not see, could not see, did not care to see the spiritual predicament or situation before or to herald the way to a phenomenal event like the birth of Jesus.

Because man is not aware then God must intercede out of concern, love, and his fatherly sense of responsibility. Otherwise, as we can easily discern, God leaves man alone as a co-creator to live his life and learn from it and make his own corrections when necessary.

Thirdly, because each of you is praying for a mammoth responsibility-that is nearly 300 million Americans and the world as an aside-then you are reaching beyond the personal, the familial, the town and city to the nation and world. How can praying for such a great and vital goal not greatly change and affect your life for the better? Is it not, perhaps, moving you out of the stagnation of your own body of life-water to flow out into the ocean of endless numbers of peoples' lives? Is this not living up to the highest level of care and concern love wise, with such a large target of responsibility? Yes it is.

Echoing many of your letters, one young man participating in this national prayer call up, wrote: 

    "I don't usually share very much of my experience but the prayer for America is changing my life too. It is not with others that I have challenges, it is with my self, face to face:  I see my negative ego, my resistance and my weaknesses that I am learning to let go of each day since the prayer. I can see them and I don't let guilt take a hold of me. Praying is developing me continually and it gives me the discipline that I have to bring more in my life. I choose more and more love. That is what I choose to express and I see it everyday in my life with others [now]. It not easy, but it is a new story that I am writing in my life with God.
    It is a joy to be part of your life and to pray for America and share my writing about the new story of my life.

Fourthly, do you not know that Jesus and countless numbers of masters and saints, founding fathers and other spirit world national figures are responding to the energies that we are putting out individually and collectively? And many of those assisting us in spirit were praying individuals too when they were on earth. Abraham Lincoln was one of them and tells us so in his words written during the Civil War when he writes,

"I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day." [Lincoln Observed: The Civil War Dispatches of Noah Brooks edited by Michael Burlingame (Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore, 1998), p. 210.]

Why does man pray? Consciously or unconsciously, it is to send our heart's content out that it may be heard and responded to by God and Spirit and necessary changes can be brought to pass. We are in a cooperative, co-creative relationship with our Heavenly Father as we pray. Knowing all of this, we are accompanied by a great cloud of invisible but exceedingly real and powerful witnesses!

Under such circumstance, wouldn't anyone-who sincerely applied themselves to praying for a nation-be blessed in return? Yes, because it is the fulfillment of spiritual law. What you sow in love, you reap in love.

With Faith in God, Like Abraham, We Are Praying for America

Oh, I know that you are not looking for rewards. You are looking for an improvement in our nation's welfare, praying earnestly and steadily to awaken America from its ignorance so as to receive new awareness or enlightenment, a new spirit to raise this land to its highest potential and calling.

We are on a mission, you and I. We are a praying people and learning to pray better and with greater faith. The results appear first within ourselves and by this we can know that results can also come in others who pray likewise and in those who are recipients of our prayers. A nation changes, for the better, as each one changes. Whether such change will come over night or by force or by the quiet, humble response of each one of our nation's people to the need to awaken, we cannot know. We can only pray as President Lincoln did in faith and leave the rest to God.

Meanwhile, each of us, as contributors and participants in this great cause is getting the significant benefits of prayers that are filled with unconditional love for a nation. Surely the passive, slumbering giant within us is more than just stirring, he or she is now with eyes wide open and ready to rise to be fully awake!

In closing, I want to put my talk in the context of Biblical history and the plight of man and God's wondrous love and mercy: 

    Genesis 18:20-33 

    20 Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous 21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

    22 ...  Abraham remained standing before the LORD. [e] 23 Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not spare [f] the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing-to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge [g] of all the earth do right?"

    26 The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake." 

    27 Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?"
    "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it." 

    29 Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" 
    He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it." 

    30 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?"
    He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." 

    31 Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?" 
    He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it." 

    32 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?" 
    He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."

    33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of America and from other countries participating with us, Jesus asked for a minimum of 21 people to fulfill this prayer condition to awaken America. We are now well over 200. Can we, like Abraham, be among the righteous to cause God to change the direction of America, to lead our country to better times, to holier, spiritually healthier times?

Due to Abraham's plea backed by simple faith, obedience and holiness, God said he would spare Sodom if there were only ten righteous men to be found there. Let us pray as if we were Abraham when we pray for the United States of America.

AWAKEN SLEEPING GIANT PRAYER:

Mission Statement

I understand that Jesus has asked for special prayer for America. To comply with his request, I have volunteered to be a prayer channel-ideally once a day for three months-for God to radiate through me unconditional, loving, healing energies to all Americans of the United States. It is not my responsibility to determine the outcome of my prayers. In faith, I leave the outcome in the hands of God.

Meditation for Personal Healing and Setting Intention

Let us enter into a meditative state of mind:

Find a comfortable position and close your eyes.

Focus your mind upon your heart.

Breathe a small, gentle breath  into your heart...and become more relaxed and centered.

Take a second, small, gentle breath and become even more relaxed.

Take a third, small, gentle breath and feel yourself totally relaxed, 

at peace and centered.

Above you is an intense, holy, eternal, spiritual White Light.

Take your time to imagine its presence with you literally. This is the presence of God.

And from this intense Light are droplets of unconditional love raining down upon you, spiritually awakening,, protecting,, and blessing, leaving you in deep, deep, deep peace...You are awakening to your own true power within; you are being made whole through all of the prayers you are sending out to America with this prayer condition.

I am going to be silent for a few moments 

to allow you to dwell upon your present state of meditation...

We are now ready to pray the Prayer to Awaken the Sleeping Giant.  Be aware that according to a request from Jesus recently, the prayer has been altered as he asked me to begin to put in words for protecting all the people of our nation.

Praying the Prayer to Awaken the Sleeping Giant

1.  Dear Heavenly Father, I visualize before me the city of Washington, D.C., our nation's capitol.  In my prayer, I see the radiation of a holy and eternal spiritual White Light spanning above and over the whole city.

From this all-encompassing, loving, supernatural, White Light, I see the raining down of countless numbers of droplets of unconditional love upon all the people; leaders and followers alike.

For a meaningful span of time, I will continue to visualize these droplets of unconditional love raining down upon our nation's capitol where the drops may awaken, protect, and bless all of the people of Washington, D.C. May your will be done with my prayer according to your greater wisdom.

2.  Dear Heavenly Father, I now call out in prayer the names of major cities of the United States as representative of all cities and towns.

Albany, Albuquerque, Annapolis, Atlanta, Augusta, Austin, Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Bismarck, Boise, Boston, Bridgeport, Carson City, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Concord, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Denver, Des Moines, Detroit, Dover, Frankfurt, Harrisburg, Hartford, Helena, Honolulu, Houston, Indianapolis, Jackson, Jacksonville, Jefferson City, Juneau, Lansing, Las Vegas, Lincoln, Little Rock, Los Angeles, Louisville, McMinnville, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Mobile, Montgomery, New Orleans, New York City, Newark, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh, Sacramento, Salem, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Fe, Savannah, Seattle, Springfield, St. Louis, Tallahassee, Tampa, Topeka, Trenton, Tucson, Virginia Beach, Wichita, Wilmington.

Dear God, I now place my hand on this list of city names of America and in prayer I see the radiation of a holy and eternal spiritual White Light spanning above and over all of them. And from this light I see the raining down of droplets of love that may awaken, protect, and bless all of the people in all the cities and towns in America. May your will be done with my prayer according to your greater wisdom.

3.  And now, Father, I turn toward our nation. In my prayer I see the radiation of your holy and eternal, spiritual White Light spanning above and over the whole nation of the United States of America, from East to West, from North to South, including Alaska and Hawaii. And from this Light I see the raining down of droplets of love that may awaken, protect, and bless all of the people of America. May your will be done with my prayer according to your greater wisdom.

4.  And now, Father, I place my prayer upon the world. In my prayer I see the radiation of your holy and eternal, spiritual White Light spanning above and over the whole world. And from this Light I see the raining down of droplets of love that may awaken, protect, and bless all of the people in every nation of the world to bring about universal harmony, unity, and lasting peace among all nations. May your will be done with my prayer according to your greater wisdom.

5.  Heavenly Father, I affirm that my prayer has been heard, that your love and your energy combined with what I have given, awakens, protects and blesses me, all of the people of America and the whole world. I affirm that my prayers, asked for by Jesus, are making a difference in me, in America and in the whole world. All this I pray in the Christ spirit, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Closing Comments

Thank you all for attending this sixth in a series of prayers for our country. Let us all keep the promise and remember to remember to attend to our sacred prayer duty, first for ourselves and secondly for others and our country of the United States of America. God bless and good night.
