Webmaster TC: Kevin McDonald

Senior vice president for throws Down Under

Name: Kevin McDonald, kevinm1@ozemail.com.au

Born: August 31, 1952, in Sydney, Australia

Occupation: Sports sub-editor with The Australian, our national daily newspaper.

Home: Sydney, Australia

Masters achievements: Kevin writes: "I've been competing in masters (we call it veterans) track and field for five years. I'm a hammer (PB 40.96m/134-4) and weight (PB 12.57m/41-3) thrower. Shot PB: 10.69m/35-1 in 1994 (I don't throw the shot anymore because I've fallen in love with the hammer)."

Trivia: Kevin's eclectic athletic career includes stints as a rugby player, rower and triathlete. He writes: "I wasn't all that brilliant at rugby, or cricket for that matter, but like most Aussie kids I played both. When I turned 35 I began my first midlife crisis and started running and swimming to keep my weight down -- I'm pretty big -- 18stone, 6ft 4in. I competed in a few triathlons including one that had a swim across Sydney Harbour, under the Harbour Bridge -- what a buzz. I went into retirement, until I heard about veterans track and field. In 1991 at age 39, I began my throwing career. Since then I've competed in our national championships held each Easter across the country. I've been to the World Masters in Brisbane and the Australian Masters in Melbourne in 1995. Along the way I've collected some medals, a few PBs but most importantly some great mates."

CEO's note: Like the webmaster, Kevin stares at a newspaper computer terminal all day. He also is the editor of the New South Wales Veteran Athletics Association newsletter. He graciously writes: "If any of you guys are likely to come to Sydney for the Olympics or are considering it, let me know. I can point you in the right direction."

See Nedstats for very detailed information on visits since July 8, 1998.
