Please visit http://members.aol.com/APTurner/wctnhome.htm for more details about this project.

Notes in the GEDCOM file WCTNPROJ.ZIP are stamped with an UPDATE: tag and a brief citation which should be cross-referenced with the list below. All records without an UPDATE: tag implicitly come from "Warren County, Tennessee: Census of 1850", Womack Printing Co, 105 Donnell St, McMinnville TN 37110, 1958. Application note: Users of PAF can utilize the FOCUS feature to find all records containing the note text "UPDATE: yyyy-mm-dd".

In many cases, the sources will have much additional information of interest, such as more complete family groups with brothers and sisters living in different counties, families occupying adjacent plots in cemeteries, or names of executors in probate records. Please refer to these sources when you spot something pertaining to your own research interests. And don't forget that mistakes can compound with each additional stage of transcribing records, too. I would appreciate notification of any errors you spot.

As more sources are examined, I am making some effort to standardize surname spellings if there seems to be a majority consensus. I am giving more weight to the spellings which appear in the Majors Cemetery Book series, on the assumption that census takers and county clerks might not be as careful as members of the family ordering an inscription on a tombstone. For example, Towls has been changed to Towles, Guynn to Gwyn, and so forth, but Cellars and Sellars has not been changed. There will be a record giving the cross-reference from the census spelling.

Many updates are extracted from The Warren County Genealogical Association quarterly bulletin. A subscription is included with annual dues of $10: send to WCGA, PO Box 411, McMinnville TN 37110-0411.
