Who does The URANTIA Book say Jesus is, and how does it say Jesus compares with God?

According to the Urantia Book, God is the First Source, the one uncaused Cause, the Origin of all things and beings.  From infinity, God, as the Universal Father, sends his own Spirit into all the universes of time and space to live within the higher reaches of the mind of each person, there to guide each of us throughout mortal life in the making of those decisions which will nurture the growth of our potentially eternal souls.  Jesus is his Creator Son who hails from "the right hand of the Father" in Paradise, and who is now the Master Sovereign of this universe of his own making.  Throughout his incarnation on this world, Urantia, Jesus perfectly did the perfect Father's will, revealing his oneness with the Father.  Jesus was the "Word" of God made flesh.

Is The URANTIA Book a new religion?  Is it a cult?

The URANTIA Book does not constitute a religion.  The URANTIA Book is *about* religion, history, science, and philosophy, and reiterates the gospel OF Jesus which is that ALL men and women ARE the sons and daughters of the perfect and changeless Father in Heaven, as his FREE gift, and that by Living FAITH alone each may become spiritually conscious of, and daily experience a progressive personal relationship with the Spirit of God that lives and works within the higher reaches of the mind of every mortal.  No sacrifice, blood or otherwise, was ever necessary as an intercession to appease an offended Lord, to avert the fictitious divine wrath, or to restore the divine affection for and forgiveness of his erring children on earth.

A "cult" is characterized by a group of people who adhere to a standardized and ecclesiastically sanctioned belief system leaving no room for personal beliefs or for interpretation.  Often, such belief system embraces some regiment of uncontestable theology, and some indispensable material or intellectual method wherewith to garner one's salvation into heaven.  Usually, there is one or more charismatic "leader" who is recognized as the final authority on nearly all matters of living, sometimes even to the mundane.  Often there is a communal center or "compound" which is represented as the headquarters 'center' or hub.

None of the above characteristics applies to readers of The URANTIA Book.  Not only is The URANTIA Book not a religion, there is neither a "Urantia Church" nor a 'Urantia leader.'  All readers who happen to personally believe all that The URANTIA Book says are completely autonomous.  Your neighbor, co-worker, even a family member, may now be objectively reading it, and perhaps even believing it.  Some such readers may elect to attend autonomous, informal study groups usually held in private homes in order to share in the experience of discovery of the significance of the content of the text.

Who authored the Urantia Papers?

The names of the authors or their titles appear in the Table of Contents of, as well as at the end of each of the 196 Papers comprising The URANTIA Book.

The authors identify themselves as a commission of heavenly beings of various and diverse "orders" and from many levels of spiritual hierarchy whose task it was to collaborate to bring to our world, known in heaven as "Urantia," this new major revelation of epochal proportion which restores lost historical facts and restates an almost day-by-day account of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.  These 'revelators' brought to this endeavor their own individual areas of knowledge and expertise, while they were all mandated to utilize to the fullest extent possible any previous humanly expressed truths, "representing the highest and most advanced planetary knowledge of spiritual values and universe meanings," before resorting to their own superior knowledge.

Why isn't the Bible enough?  Does The URANTIA Book say that the Bible is wrong?

There are areas in the Bible which do not portray the nature and character of our heavenly Father as Jesus revealed him by his very life ... perfect, infinitely loving, and changeless.  The Bible does not consistently portray the heavenly Father as Jesus did by the way in which he LIVED his life.

Belief that any earthly book is "The Word of God" and infallible, or that sacrifices were ever necessary to God, is neither a requirment for a man's worthiness to God and for his entry into heaven, nor a litmus test for the faith in his heart.

How does the Bible compare?

The Bible does not explain the one-time existence of the many different types of dinosaurs, nor the long geophysical evolution of this planet.  It does not explain the origin of the human species from Primates.  It does not explain from what peoples "Cain got himself a wife," nor explain anything about "The Land of Nod."  The Bible does not explain the origin of the various races.  Neither does Scripture tell us of the myriad of 'orders' of heavenly beings or of the various physical types of mortals that exist in the universes.  The Bible is a wonderful repository of spiritual truths recorded over the ages, but it is by no means either infallible or a complete revelation of the heavenly Father and of the cosmos.  Neither, for that matter, is The URANTIA Book such a complete revelation.  "No revelation short of the attainment of the perfect Father in Paradise can ever be considered complete.  All other celestial ministrations are no more than partial, transient, and practically adapted to local conditions in time and space." Were Adam and Eve real?

Nearly 38,000 years ago, our world was given the second of five major epochal revelations.  This second divine revelation was in the form of the bestowal of a heavenly couple, Adam and Eve.  Such a divine couple is visited upon every evolving world early in its stages of human development.  The divine mission of an Adam and Eve couple, whose genetically superior bodies are constructed and customized by special heavenly beings to conform to the physical body type of the mortals of the given planet, is to spiritually, culturally, and to eventually biologically upstep the mortal race.  The human species on our world had already evolved for over 950,000 years by the time of the arrival of our Adam and Eve couple, and six aboriginal colored races had already long since appeared.

Due to the Adamic default, the divine plan of eventual biologic upstepping of the aboriginal human races was not carried-forth in the systematic manner that had been intended.  Nevertheless, the gene pool of the human species did greatly benefit from what biologic admixture that did occur subsequent to the evacuation of the first and original Garden of Eden by the Adamic race.

There were TWO Gardens of Eden??  Where?

Yes, there were two Gardens of Eden.  The first was created, over a period of approximately 80 years in advance of the arrival of the Adam and Eve couple, on an island-peninsula that once extended out into the Mediterranean Sea from the coastal area of present-day Syria.  After 117 years of home-life in this first Garden, the Adamic race evacuated it and migrated into the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia where they literally toiled to create a second Garden.

So what became of the "First Garden"?  Where is it now??

For approximately 4,000 years after the Adamic family had left it, the island peninsula was inhabited by various peoples, the last group being lower-grade descendants of the Nodite race. Approximately 33,800 years ago, the easternmost end of the Mediterranean Basin became flooded by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean due to the breakage of the Gibralter Dam and the consequent submergence of the Sicilian land bridge.  Soon thereafter, the floor of the eastern Mediterranean Basin sank, carrying beneath the Mediterranean waters the island peninsula.

How does evolutionary science fit in?

According to the Urantia Book, the process of physical evolution, the spontaneous development of living organisms from the simple to the more complex, and the survival of hardier strains of organisms in contrast to weaker strains, is not a result of random accidents or fortuitous but haphazard circumstances, but rather the result of the intentional design of God, from whom flow all good things -- personal, mindal, physical, and spiritual.  The physical evolution of the human species from Primates is wholly a consequence of this divine design, while likewise is the divine design behind the spiritual evolution of the human mind into the progressive comprehension of spiritual realities, God-consciousness, as the human personality chooses to do the will of our Father in heaven..

The URANTIA Book denies that Jesus' death on the cross was the "ultimate" blood sacrifice that God needed?

According to The URANTIA Book, Jesus did indeed suffer on the cross, but such suffering was not to serve as a substitution for the fictitious suffering that man purportedly would have had to otherwise endure as a torment allegedly ordained by our heavenly Father as a result of mankind's fictitious inheriting of the so-called, "Original Sin."

There is tremendous significance to our Master's death on the cross, but such significance does *not* lie in the false and pagan notion that it was to appease an offended Lord, to avert the fictitious divine wrath, or to restore the divine affections for or forgiveness of his erring children on earth.  Neither was the Master's death on the cross a sacrifice which consisted in an effort to pay God a debt which the race of mankind had come to owe him.  Our Father in heaven is changeless and perfect, and has never and will never need any gifts, bribes, works, or sacrifices, blood or otherwise, in order to undergo an attitude adjustment.  "There is no iniquity in the Lord, no taking of gifts."

What influences God in the granting of salvation?

When our Master revealed to us the true nature and character of God, he demonstrated by his very life that God goes out in search of the wrongdoer as the true shepherd leaves the flock to go out in search of the lost sheep.  Since our heavenly Father is changeless and perfect, his divine purpose has always been to constantly minister mercy and to unwaveringly show goodness to every lost soul.  The divine intent is to lead erring man or woman into sincere repentance by such compassionate mercy and by that very goodness.  Such has always been the Father's attitude and was never rendered available in return for any gifts, bribes, or sacrifices, blood or otherwise.  "There is no iniquity in the Lord, no taking of gifts."

God desires that all be in communion with him.  We are all beloved sons and daughters of God.  God loves even sinners, and forgives them.  Only the sinner's continued rejection of the Father's constant proffer of divine mercy is what distances the wrongdoer from experiencing the unqualified love of the Spirit Father.  The Father never wavers from his boundless mercy.  There never was nor will there ever be a need by God for sacrifices, blood or otherwise, to sway his unchanging and perfect attitude of infinite love and compassionate mercy for the wrongdoer.  The wrongdoer's sufferings and needs are wholly sufficient to bring forth the Father's blessed ministry.

If Jesus was God in the flesh, and his death was not as a sacrifice that God required, then what does The URANTIA Book say is the reason He suffered and died the death on the cross?

Our heavenly Father sent his Creator Son to our world by incarnation to reveal his true and perfect nature and character, to reveal his absolute goodness, infinite love, and boundless mercy to all men of all generations.  Jesus also revealed to God the potential of man to ascend to the spiritual heights which He has now set for man, heights achieved through the doing of the Father's will.  Jesus dared to deliver man from the bondage of fear and from the shackles of religious tradition rather than fulfill the Jewish material expectation of a Messiah who would divine preferential treatment of Israel over its enemies.

Jesus' constant mission was to show that unselfish service is the earmark of the Father's will, and that to do the will of God is to become more and more like him.  His actual gospel is that all men and women ARE already sons and daughters of God, and spiritual brothers and sisters on earth, and that by faith man may experience this gift of his sonship, through grace grow towards the spiritual perfection of God. This genuine gospel message of the Universal Father's free gift of sonship shared by *ALL* men and women and to be experienced by faith alone was a threat to the Pharisees' stranglehold via religious traditions upon the Jews, a threat to their positions of power.  The Pharisees delivered Jesus to the Romans for crucifixion because of his unswerving demonstration of the boundless mercy and the infinite love of God for all men and women at all times.  Jesus refused to avoid the full repercussions of his perfect revelation of how the Father loves even each erring man, and forgives each and every one, always seeking to demonstrate to the wrongdoer that there is always room for the wrongdoer's *sincere* repentance.  No greater love can man have than to lay down his life for his friends, and Jesus had such an infinite love for man that He even laid down his life for his so-called enemies in unselfish service, the service of the uncompromising revelation of the Father's infinite love and forgiveness for even these, his murderers.

Jesus' resurrection proved the fact of man's survival after mortal death, but the way by which he met his death proved how our heavenly Father forgives even all wrongdoers.  Because Jesus refused to "save himself," he revealed the high value placed by our heavenly Father upon even each erring man.  By his refusal to avoid 'drinking the full cup of mortal experience,' Jesus demonstrated that our heavenly Father never wavers from his desire to show mercy and to effect genuine rehabilitation.  Never does our heavenly Father give up on even the most heinous of wrongdoers as He provides every opportunity for the wrongdoer to choose to turn away from sin.

How can Urantia 'believers' claim Jesus as Lord and Savior without embracing the Lord's religion?

Neither Christianity nor any other earthly religion has a monopoly on God, on Jesus, or on a personal relationship with our heavenly Father through the Spirit of his Son.  

According to The URANTIA Book, Jesus' life among us served to illuminate the way of salvation, while his death did not create a mechanism of mortal survival where it had not already before existed.  It was by his life of unselfish service, of revealing the true nature and character God as our heavenly Father to all who sincerely seek, that the way of salvation was illuminated, opened still further.  Jesus revealed that each person, by wholeheartedly trusting in the absolute goodness of God as his infinitely-loving Spirit Father, may experience the profoundly personal inner assurance of sonship as the Father's free gift.  Unselfish service to one's fellows, righteous living for God's sake, and the striving for divine perfection, become, then, man's supreme motivation for living, as opposed to the selfish clamoring for survival.  Jesus provided a new way of living which consists in salvation from self.  Salvation (survival beyond mortal death) is the gift of God, and should be taken for granted by all who believe with a whole heart, and who humbly seek after perfection of personality motivation.

"When men believe this gospel, which is a revelation of the goodness of God, they will be led to voluntary repentance of all known sin.  Realization of sonship is incompatible with the desire to sin." -- P. 1683 The URANTIA Book.

With Jesus' crucifixion, all the universe witnessed the selfless act of the Universe Creator who, as both human and divine in one being, refused to avoid the full repurcussion within human affairs of his uncompromising revelation of the goodness of God, even to the extent of the living demonstration that the Father's merciful regard never wavers from even these, his murderers.  By his "drinking the full cup" of mortal experience, allowing himself to be put to a horrible and unjust death, Jesus demonstrated that the heavenly Father will stop at nothing to offer genuine rehabilitation to anyone who *sincerely* seeks after divine forgiveness.  Never does our heavenly Father give up on even the most heinous of wrongdoers as He provides every opportunity for every wrongdoer to choose to turn away from sin.  It is in this context that Jesus is very much our Savior.  Jesus did not die to save us from our own past, present, or future sins, or from the sins of our ancestors, but He did allow himself to be put to death in order to give all future generations his gift of the saving revelation of the *full* extent of the Father's love and mercy.

Most Urantia Book 'believers' joyfully and autonomously strive to personally live the teachings of Jesus, and their religion is a living faith in our perfect Father's intimate involvement with each soul's journey toward becoming more and more like him in eternity, beyond this short, earthly life in the flesh. 

"Jesus does not require his disciples to believe in him but rather to believe with him, believe in the reality of the love of God and in full confidence accept the security of the assurance of sonship with the heavenly Father. The Master desires that all his followers should fully share his transcendent faith. Jesus most touchingly challenged his followers, not only to believe what he believed, but also to believe as he believed. This is the full significance of his

Are Urantia "believers" born-again?

Being Born Again is not a matter of "eat or drink" ... it is not a matter of going to church on a regular basis or a matter of believing that the Bible is infallible.  It is not a matter of parroting dogma or doctrine, ascribing to a particular theology, or of declaring loyalty to Christianity.

Becoming "Born Again" in truth is the experiencing of a full-fledged spiritual awakening to the Father's inner Spirit presence as that experience is catalyzed by one's personal commitment to wholeheartedly trusting in the absolute goodness of God as the personal Spirit Father of every individual.  Through such spirit-consciousness one is constrained to become dedicated to the doing of the Father's most worthy will in everyday life, being of unselfish service to others and striving to become more and more like him, perfect.  Becoming born of the Spirit means becoming increasingly attuned to the Father's personal Spirit-presence, nurturing a growing relationship with him, and allowing his unqualified love to increasingly actualize within one's personal life.

What significance does The URANTIA Book attach to The Last Supper?

Jesus used the sharing of the one loaf of bread as a means of symbolizing the spiritual significance of his human existence among us as the Bread of Life, the very source of our spiritual sustenance living among us in the flesh,  while He used the sharing of the cup of wine as a means of symbolizing that He would (and did on the Day of Pentecost) pour out his own Truth-Spirit upon all the world after he ascended back into heaven. With these symbols, Jesus taught how each of us, throughout all subsequent generations, may partake of his actual living presence in Spirit, how we may genuinely consort with, relate to, and become edified by and find our very sustenance in his Spirit Person and by his Divine Mind in our daily lives.

What does The URANTIA Book say about the "War in Heaven?"  Is there a "Devil?"  Did God or Jesus create "Lucifer/Satan"?

According to The URANTIA Book, Jesus, the universe Creator, is the Creator-Father of a whole host of differing orders of high Sons within the level of this local universe, such as the Melchizedek Sons and the Lanonadek Sons.  Among the Sons of the Lanonandek order rank both Lucifer and Satan.

Over 500,000 years ago, Lucifer, former Sovereign of this small system of inhabited worlds, rebelled against the existence of the unseen Universal Father in Paradise.  Many heavenly beings, including his first lieutenant, Satan, as well as the one-time, now apostate "Prince" of this world, Caligastia (the so-called, "Devil"), joined Lucifer in his manifesto of unbridled liberty with no regard for the divine plans.  All these celestial personalities had been created at the local universe level by the Universe Creator Son, Michael, (who much later incarnated on our world and whom we know as Jesus of Nazareth), and by his Co-Creative Consort, the Universe Daughter Spirit, both of whom hail from eternal Paradise at the center of the giant, perfect, eternal Central Universe of Havona.  It is only within the Central Universe of Havona where beings are created perfect.  Beings created at the 'local' universe levels in the realm of time and space are never created perfect.  The universe celestial personalities who rebelled against the very existence of the unseen Paradise Father and aligned themselves with the sophistry of Lucifer's Manifesto have been interned and are powerless.  Caligastia, the former Planetary Prince, was allowed to remain on this world, but he is completely powerless, having no influence whatsoever on any human unless a human should deliberately and knowingly seek him out and embrace iniquity.  All await the imminent judgment by the Ancients of Days, afterwhich all will be rendered "as if they had never been."

What does The URANTIA Book say that Lucifer wanted to accomplish?

According to The URANTIA Book, Lucifer was brilliant in his comprehension of his spiritual nature.  He acknowledged his origin was with the universe Creator, but he became intoxicated with his own brilliance and for a long time nurtured the pride of self.  It is literally true that pride goes before a great fall.  He eventually created his manifesto, declaring that the Universal Father in Paradise, the Infinite, did not exist.  He charged his own Creator, Michael, of having made up the existence of the Universal Father in order to maintain a dictatorial authority over the universe of his own making.  He declared that the the entire ascension scheme for the evolutionary progression of the ascending mortal souls into the spiritual perfection of God was an elaborate hoax.  He declared that each heavenly being had the innate right to do as he willed, "liberty without license" ... with no regard for the repercussions upon others.

Over much time he persuaded many heavenly beings of various levels of spiritual hierarchy to align themselves with his Manifesto.  Those in sympathy with his spurious charges included angels of various classes as well as very many of the Midway Creatures living on this world as well as on other neighboring inhabited worlds of our System.  Satan, Lucifer's first lieutenant, also embraced his Manifesto, as did 37 of the Planetary Princes who had already established their planetary regimes on each of their respective inhabited planets.  One of those Planetary Princes was our own "Caligastia."

At the time of the transmitting of this fifth Urantia revelation, Caligastia (the so-called "Devil") was still free to roam this world.  He has no influence, however, over anyone unless one is committed to seeking him out.  The Spirit of God (termed "Thought Adjuster") within the mind of man and woman prevents him from ever influencing human decision-making unless a human truly and deliberately desires to resist the Father's inner Spirit-guidance and seeks to be cursed by his wicked presence.  Caligastia, Satan, Lucifer and all unrepentant rebels will become as if they had never been at the adjudication by the Ancients of Days.  This final verdict in the case of "Gabriel vs. Lucifer" is imminent, and the spiritual quarantine from the System broadcasts placed upon these 37 inhabited worlds will soon be lifted.

Does God ever turn away from anyone?  Does The URANTIA Book condone homosexuality?

Our heavenly Father loves all men and women equally.  He sonships them as his free gift, to be realized by them by faith as the attitude of the soul, and to be progressively experienced by them through grace.  Our heavenly Father does not discriminate on any basis for any reason.  He does not withhold sonship status and spirit ministry from some because of ideological, religious, cultural or racial variances, or because of varying sexual orientation.

Sexual orientation is not a deterrent to the quality of the relationship between man and God.  Homosexuality does not diminish the loving regard of our heavenly Father, nor does it determine one's acceptability or worthiness as a son or daughter of God.

The URANTIA Book wholly exalts the man-woman partnership as the most ideal environment for child rearing.  The URANTIA Book does NOT, however, declare social edicts, or condemn homosexual family units.

Neither does our heavenly Father discriminate in his sonshipping of all men and women on the basis of who does or who does not believe that Jesus existed on earth, or that He is the Christ.  However, The URANTIA Book fully affirms that Jesus did, and does, exist, and that He was the incarnation of the local universe Creator, whose Paradise Order name is "Michael."

How did the Urantia Papers come into being?

The heavenly Revelators made contact with a psychiatrist, Dr. William S. Sadler, who had been called in to witness the unprecedented phenomenon of an unidentified man's uncategorized night disturbances, about which that unidentified man was wholly unaware since he would always be in a profound sleep.  Dr. Sadler wrote only a little about this phenomenon in the Appendix of his book, "The Mind at Mischief."  He was sworn to secrecy by the Revelators, as subsequently were the forum of seventy mortals eventually gathered together for the purpose of posing questions to the Revelators.  The patient's identity will never be known for certain.  There is much more detailed information on the origin, organization, and method of materialization of The Urantia Papers at:   http://urantiabook/index_history.htm/

How is The URANTIA Book not an inspired work?  Wasn't it channeled?

"Inspired" connotes that a man's mind was involved, as does "channeling."  There lives within the superconscious mind of each man and woman a 'Thought Adjuster,' an integral fragment of the Spirit of the infinite God.  The fifth Urantia revelation was a direct transmitting, not transmitted by God himself, rather transmitted by a commission of heavenly beings, who, in some unrevealed manner, utilized the Thought Adjuster within the mind of an ordinary man who would be in a profound sleep, his mind totally oblivious during these superhuman night-proceedings.  After years of study and observation, Dr. Sadler brought the case to the attention of a group of seventy people who were asked to pose all manner of questions to the 'Revelators.'   Eventually, there ensued the appearance of this fifth Urantia revelation on paper, but not by human hands.  Throughout the entire proceeding, never in any way was the body or mind of the "Sleeping Subject" used by the Revelators.

What does "Sleeping Subject" mean?

"Sleeping Subject" refers to the man who would go into a profound sleep overnight while an uncategorized phenomenon would take place.   It was neither channeling nor inspired transmission.  Rather, in some non-understood way, during his sleeping state this man's own mind was completely oblivious to, and during his awakened state his disposition completely unphased by, the contact made by the heavenly Revelators to others in the room, contact that was being made through the 'fragment' of the Spirit of God ("Thought Adjuster") that lived within the higher reaches of the mind of this man.  That "Sleeping Subject" is now graduated to the Mansion Worlds, and his identity will never be known for certain.

Is there a feminine element to God?

According to The URANTIA Book, The Eternal Son, the Second Person of the Paradise Trinity, is considered the Spirit Mother of all creature creation.  Moreover, and more immediate, each universe Creator Son is ably assisted by a Co-Creative Spirit who has her origin with the Third Person of the Paradise Trinity, the Infinite Spirit or "Conjoint Actor."  These Co-Creative Spirits are considered Co-Creative Paradise Daughters.  Each Creator Son and Co-Creative Daughter go out from the realm of eternity into the realms of time and space to create, organize, and administer one universe, of which there are millions in all the Grand Universe.  These Co-Creative Daughter Spirits eventually transform within their respective universes into "Universe Mother Spirits."  The Universe Mother Spirit is the source of the Holy Spirit, serving as both the focal and distribution point of the Cosmic Mind, while the Creator Son is the source of the eventual outpoured Spirit of Truth and the time-space representation of the Universal Father in Paradise.  The Universe Mother Spirit gives origin to, and provides the local universe Spirit-pattern for, the many differing types of angels (seraphim, sanobim, cherubim, among others).  She is also the source of the seven levels of mind-ministry to all universe creatures, down to the animal creatures of the evolving planets.

Is The URANTIA Book is polytheistic?

According to The URANTIA Book, Jesus sought to upstep and exalt the pre-existent 'Golden Rule' teaching to a higher level of self-forgetful service as the cornerstone of the New and Living Way.  This upstepped Golden Rule, by which he admonished his disciples to live, was that man should strive to love his fellow man as even our infinitely-loving Father in heaven loves each man.  The New and Living Way is the way of dynamically living one's faith-attitude, proactively allowing for personal transformation while laying firm hold on spirit realities in unselfish service; of becoming inwardly assured of salvation in full confidence of, and wholehearted trust and faith in, the Father's promise of always being with us and going before us.

According to the Urantia Book, the original "Good News" gospel message of Jesus is:  ALL men and women ARE ALREADY the sons and daughters of God as our infinitely-loving Spirit Father as his free gift.  By faith as the attitude of the soul each may come to realize and daily experience this ennobling truth; through grace each may grow into his spiritual perfection by increasingly following the leadings of the Father's divine Spirit within.  No sacrifice, blood or otherwise, was ever required by God as an intercession to appease an allegedly offended Lord, to avert the fictitious divine wrath, or to restore the divine affection for and forgiveness of his erring children on earth.

Is my faith 'wrong' if I don't believe what The URANTIA Book says?

Millions of humans do just fine in life without ever wanting to be free-thinking enough to expand the mind to receive truth from whatever source it may chance to appear.  Our heavenly Father sends of himself, his own Spirit (the "living waters,"  "Manna"), to live within the higher reaches of the mind of every human, irrespective of his/her ideological belief system or lack thereof.  The URANTIA Book is simply not required reading.

Readers of The URANTIA Book usually have come to believe what it says because they have already gone full-circle and have realized the true value of a living faith as the attitude of the soul regardless of any inconsistencies and imperfections in the belief system with which they were raised.  Many truthseekers do find that the fifth Urantia revelation coordinates planetary knowledge, sorts and censors evolutionary theology, restores lost history, and reveals the nature of true religion and the true nature and character of God as these are illuminated by the restatement of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.

The essence of true religion is a wholehearted trust in the absolute goodness of God as the infinitely loving Spirit Father of every individual.  The living experience of realizing sonship with God by faith and of daily experiencing such sonship through grace in wholehearted service to God and man is the essence of the living Gospel *of* Jesus.  Although the Urantia Book, itself, is not a religion, reading The URANTIA Book can serve to catalyze one's personal appropriation of this genuine spiritual experience in daily life.

Where does The URANTIA Book stand on abortion?

The URANTIA Book makes no social edicts.  It does, however, shed light on the question of the point of inception of human existence, but again leaves the reader to draw his own inference.

A creature is human when he/she has a brain that is genetically sufficiently evolved from that of lesser animals to provide an eventual mind-capacity that will be self-reflective and that will enable the eventual encircuiting of the sixth and seventh adjutant mind-spirits of the universe Mother Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom and the Spirit of Worship.  Such a new self-discerning creature can experience wisdom and worship, even in the smallest measure, sufficient to afford making his/her first moral choice.  The little 'person' must have the potential, then, to eventually utilize free-will choice, otherwise such a creature is not yet human.

According to The URANTIA Book, "personality" status is equivalent to free-will capacity and is directly conferred as a gift by God upon and therefore resident in potential within the living creature upon birth, that is, upon autonomous viability *outside* of the womb.

Many readers of the Urantia Book conclude that the gift of Personality is conferred upon a creature IN ORDER to MAKE that creature a human being.  Short of the conferring of Personality at birth, the creature in the womb has neither free-will capacity nor mindal receptivity to the sixth and seventh adjutant minds-spirits.  Many conclude from this, then, that prior to birth the living creature in the womb is not a human being.

The URANTIA Book upholds the primacy of the First Source and Center, the Universal Father of all things and beings, and upholds that his Creator Son, our Master, Jesus, incarnated on this world to reveal to all mankind even on all the worlds of his own created universe how we each may follow after him in surviving the terrestrial life into heaven.  His gospel message is sonship with the Infinitely-loving Father as the Father's free gift, to be realized in one's personal experience by faith and through grace. What does The URANTIA Book say about all the racial strife in the world?  Why are there such racial differences?

For humans as citizens of the universe, and as sons and daughters of the eternal and perfect God, ultimately there is no "racial" issue.

As context, the first point that must be borne in mind is that our diverse experiences as humans of varying races serve as scaffolding toward our becoming ascendant beings beyond the earthly life. Moreover, each individual, in his own unique and irreplaceable fashion, and his mortal experience with and among diverse races, ultimately contributes to the evolution of the Supreme Being, the evolutionary Deity of time and space, both during and after the mortal life. Even the experiences of survival value of those who ultimately reject the eternity career are to some degree contributory to the totality of the Supreme Being.

As creature sons and daughters of God of mortal survival potential, each of us is given the opportunity, as a free gift, to choose to accept or reject the eternity career, to partake of the spiritual perfection plan that is made available to us even while we are yet still human, still terrestrial creatures of free-will dignity. Whether now while still in earthly form, or later, after having survived the mortal experience, each is given the opportunity to make the wholehearted choice to accept the eternity career beyond the mortal existence.

As terrestrial creature sons of God, we must navigate through the maze of moral dilemmas and struggle with the forces of our animal-origin natures, and do all this by faith in the worthiness of the divine will of God and in the unseen watchcare of his celestial ministers. Fortunately, we may choose to be superbly guided, each and every one of us, by the Father's indwelling Spirit, the divine will of God that is actually resident within the higher reaches of the human mind regardless of racial make-up.

The sincere choice to be "Spirit-led" is the key to survival and is the means by which we may become more and more like God over time. To choose to do the will of God in everyday life is to give the mind's thoughts over to Spirit influence, thereby allowing the Spirit to progressively transform the soul in participation with one's own personal decisions in daily life. This dynamic between man and God is engaged irrespective of terrestrial racial variances.

Terrestrial racial variances are most evident and pronounced here, on earth, within the material realm; while beyond the mortal life the vanishing vestiges of our one-time mortal racial constitutions continue to be evocative of our progressive spiritual growth, enhancing our morontia experiences while we aim to transcend those differences and to fully overcome the remnant influences of our animal-origin nature.

Again, it is our experiences, both during our terrestrial life and afterward, that adds to the evolution of the Supreme Being. Conversely, it is this phenomenon of the evolution of the Supreme Being that serves as the synnergistic vehicle by which we, ourselves, are evolving in time and space.

Just as the evolutionary panorama as a whole is by divine design and for the purpose of the eventual realization of the evolving time-space Deity of the Supreme, so are the terrestrial characteristics of evolutionary life likewise divinely intended to fully contribute to the evolving Supreme Being.

In the terrestrial life, it is the common experience among all worlds of evolving mortals that, early in the course of human history, there appear varying colored races, numbering six on some worlds, and three on others. Not only are the original colors, whether three or all six, the same from one world to the next, the inherent variances among the colored races, which inevitably extend beyond mere pigmentation, are largely consistent from one world to the next.

These divergent characteristics between the colored races, beyond physical characteristics, include varying degrees of inherent propensities that manifest in the areas of reactions to life circumstances, emotional predisposition, spiritual receptivity and intellectual capacity. Over successive generations of survival struggle, conquests, possible genocide, racial submergence and/or amalgamation, inherent characteristics belonging to each of the original colored races become less and less distinct.

On worlds whereon all six colored races appear, the most common outcome of the age-long struggles of the evolving races is that the "Secondary" colored races, Orange, Green and Indigo, eventually become relatively submerged/absorbed, even vanquished. Slavery early becomes the most common phenomenon by which such extinction might ensue. Regardless of the means, from one world to the next it is these "Secondary" racial groups that are usually and for the most part absorbed well before the arrival of the biologic uplifters, the divine gift to all humankind. The inherent characteristics of each submerged racial group provide an important if perhaps relatively limited contribution to the evolving human race as a whole.

On every world there eventually arrives the visible regime of the invisible Planetary Prince, whose mission it is to establish and export advancing culture and religion to primitive humanity. A major feature of the mission of the visible staff of the Planetary Prince is to eventually establish the increasing biologic disfellowshiping of the more feeble, inferior strains of mortals within each race. The effect over millennia is the ushering in of the biologic apex of human evolution, thereby signaling the advent of the epoch of the Adamic divine mission.

The Adamic culture builds upon and augments human civilization as it has already been prepared by the regime of the Planetary Prince. Spiritual and intellectual advances are further catalyzed among the various mortal groups by the superior culture of the Adamic race. The major goal of the Adamic mission on each world is to, systematically and gradually, biologically uplift the mortal races by infusing all peoples with the superior Adamic genes. All peoples by this time are eagerly anticipating the selection by the staff of the Planetary Prince of their best physical representatives from among each human race or group to be voluntarily taken to the Garden to mate with some one of the pure Adamic stock to become the parents of the new and blended order of mankind. The Adam and Eve couple themselves, however, never mate with humans.

Such mixed children are reared within the Adamic culture and then sent to the settlement of the human parent to become cultural, spiritual, intellectual and biologic emissaries of the new epoch.

In the far-distant future ages, throughout and beyond the epochs of the successive revelatory bestowals of the Paradise Sons on their divine missions of a purely spiritual and intellectual nature, Adamic-infused human evolution is attaining its apex. The treasured amalgamation of the Adamic-infused human races into one glorified planetary race is now being achieved, and the consequent spiritual and intellectual advances are such that, well into the Age of Light and Life, the mode of terrestrial escape is decreasingly by way of mortal death and more and more by means of Adjuster translation, fusion with the Thought Adjuster while yet still human.

Due to the betrayal of trust by our former Planetary Prince, our world's primitive races were never prepared for the later arrival of our Adam and Eve couple. The human races had never been purged of their more inferior strains. Another development that was not within the intended plan for mortal evolution was the infusion into the mortal races of the superhuman genetic strains of the staff of the Planetary Prince, once they resolved to sexually reproduce after losing their immortality status, first among themselves, and then with the surrounding human races. After 150, 000 years of subsequent admixture with the surrounding human races, the "Nodites" as a race had degraded even as it had expanded, starting out as they did with an advanced culture and consisting of a superior physical constitution relative to humans, until they were practically indistinct from the human race.

By the time of the advent of Adam and Eve, beginning 38, 000 years ago, and except for the growing Adamic culture on the idyllic bastion of botanic grandeur that was the first Garden of Eden which had been constructed by Van on the now-sunken land mass between Cyprus and Syria, and except for the several Vannite settlements in the areas north and northeast of Mesopotamia, the planet was in gross cultural, intellectual and spiritual darkness. Upon the default of Adam and Eve, 117 years after their arrival, the Adamic family abandoned the Garden to the invading Nodites, emigrating to the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers to create a new, "second" Garden, where they immediately undertook the cause of spreading the superior Adamic genes, a modification of the task that was to have been otherwise deferred until the Adamic family would have numbered 500, 000 within the original Garden. Because Adam and Eve now had lost their immortality status, they themselves, along with their adult offpring, began the program of mating with the better specimens of the surrounding human races.

Today, since nearly all humankind has been biologically upstepped to varying degrees by the superior genetic strain of Adam and Eve over the last 38, 000 years, and then subsequently has become increasingly amalgamated when measured against the one-time existence of the six, original, pure-line aboriginal races, divergent racial characteristics among today's human races are on a very slow but steady decline. Nevertheless, accepting that these differences exist in our terrestrial mortal state and comprehending the transitional nature of these differences is a tremendous step forward toward overcoming irrational social bias and unfounded racial prejudice, and toward the recognition of and resonance with the divine destiny that is the birthright of every mortal soul.

What does The URANTIA Book say that Jesus meant by "Be ye perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."

"Nobody's perfect," as the saying goes. Perfection is not our condition, but it is our Paradise goal. The Father knows that we have been created with a 'human nature;' after all, He created us through his Creator Son.  It will take effort on our part to strive to become perfect, more spiritual, more and more like God. There's no time like the present to start. In the words of Lao-tzu, "A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."  The goal of spiritual perfection can be achieved by EVERY sincerely God-seeking individual, though age beyond age of evolutionary progression beyond this short life in the flesh be required to accomplish it.

"Urantia mortals can hardly hope to be perfect in the infinite sense, but it is entirely possible for human beings, starting out as they do on this planet, to attain the supernal and divine goal which the infinite God has set for mortal man; and when they do achieve this destiny, they will, in all that pertains to self-realization and mind attainment, be just as replete in their sphere of divine perfection as God himself is in his sphere of infinity and eternity. Does "Past-Life Regression" work?  Is Reincarnation real?

The human tradition of Reincarnation is not supported by The URANTIA Book.

According to The URANTIA Book, the life experiences of each mortal are unique, and wholly personal.  One's unique life experiences go to the evolution of the soul.  Upon mortal death, the morontia transcripts of one's personal experiences are held in the safekeeping of the guardian seraphim.  If the mortal does not survive the mortal life, is not repersonalized on the first of the Mansion Worlds, if he/she has fully rejected survival and the Ancients of Days render him/her as if he/she never was, the life-experiences accumulated by the non-surviving personality are absorbed by the oversoul of creation, the evolving Supreme Being.  There is no accessing by another mortal of the life experiences of the non-surviving personality.  The Thought Adjuster that dwelt within such a non-surviving mortal, having gained vital experience in the nurturing of an evolving soul, nevertheless does not convey the memories of a non-surviving personality to the potentially-eternal mortal of its new indwelling.

Are we becoming our souls?

According to the Urantia Book, the embryonic soul within a human being is conceived upon the first free-will choosing of genuine moral significance by the mortal personality, which occurs usually at about age 5 1/2, signalling the arrival of the Thought Adjuster into the superconsciousness and that will remain with the evolving personality to constantly provide spiritual guidance to the developing human mind.  As the human personality increasingly chooses to do the will of the Father in heaven, as the human free-will personality increasingly cooperates with the divine leadings, the 'inner voice,' the evolving 'morontia' soul is attaining survival status, and the human personality becomes increasingly soul-conscious.

Why should anyone believe The URANTIA Book?

Any self-respecting person should approach The URANTIA Book with a healthy dose of skepticism, and should read it objectively for as long as it takes for an honest appraisal of it in the presence of the Spirit within.  Such an approach, however, is poisoned if prejudice is allowed to infect such a healthy, truth-seeking attitude.
