Vietnam Veterans To Honor Postwar
Casualties
In Candlelight Memorial Plaque Dedication Nov. 10
The newest element of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the In
Memory Memorial Plaque, will be dedicated in a candlelight ceremony
sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America (vva.org) Wednesday,
November 10 at 7:30 p.m., EST. The starting time of the 50-minute
ceremony has been changed from 7 pm to allow more opportunity
for parking along Constitution Avenue, which typically becomes
available at 6:30 pm.
The ceremony at the plaza near the Three Servicemen Statue
will celebrate the project's accomplishment and affirm what the
late Adm. Elmo Zumwalt called the plaque's 'important mission
-- a permanent place of public recognition and honor on the grounds
of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for countless Vietnam veterans
whose service-related postwar deaths are not recognized by name
on the Wall.
The In Memory plaque was 'unveiled' in a weekday ceremony
July 8 by the American Battle Monuments Commission
(http://www.abmc.gov/abmc7.htm) The dedication ceremony, on the
eve of Veterans Day, will be accessible to wider participation
by veterans and family members. Television lights will be no
deterrent to the conduct of the majority of the evening ceremony,
but camera crews are invited to take full advantage of the effect
of the illumination of high-intensity glowsticks which will be
used in lieu of candles during the closing moments.
Please check with VVA press contact below regarding mult
box availability.
