FUSHICHO DAIKO
(Phoenix Taiko)
FUSHICHO DAIKO (Phoenix
Drummers) was founded in 1992
by Esther E. Vandecar upon her return from Japan.
Esther studied and
performed in Japan for 5 years.
The next two years were devoted to teaching beginners classes,
to educate people about the exciting musical art form
of taiko, and to recruit group members.
The city of Phoenix invited the fledgling group to perform
at Matsuri in 1994 and life began for Fushicho Daiko.
The two other principle taiko players,
Tony Trapasso and Eileen Morgan,
have been with the group almost from the beginning.

Taiko
is a combination of art and sport which originated in Japan
centuries ago as a cultural and spiritual form of
expression and communication. The modern performance
of taiko as entertainment has existed less than fifty years
and has found enthusiastic audiences all over the world.
