World Spaceflight News SPACE SHUTTLE MISSION REPORTS

As a service to the Internet space community, we're making available excerpts of every official NASA / Johnson Space Center Shuttle mission report currently available. These reports, prepared for the Flight Engineering and Vehicle Management Office at JSC, "fulfill the Space Shuttle Program requirement as documented in NSTS 07700, Volume VII, Appendix E. The requirement stated in that document is that each organizational element supporting the Program will report the results of their hardware (and software) evaluation and mission performance plus identify all related in-flight anomalies." Because of their historical interest, almost all of the text of the reports for the first four flights is reproduced here. For post-Challenger missions, only the "Mission Summary" section of the report is reproduced. Full printed copies, or CD-ROM versions, of all of these reports are available from WSN.

The first five reports are the largest files; the post-Challenger files average about 15 to 25 KB. There was no official report issued for the 51-L mission. The first 78 reports are presented as HTML text files; as such, they are unofficial and edited WSN reproductions of the NASA report text. Since we could not reproduce tables or associated graphics, we have tried to eliminate any references to those figures. Any typographical errors are the sole responsibility of WSN. (Some minor errors are inevitable in a project of this size - these excerpts total over two megabytes, or the equivalent of about 380 pages!)

Starting with STS-79, the reports are direct reproductions of the Mission Summary section presented in the
Adobe Acrobat PDF format.
