The Great Little
Trains of Wales are narrow gauge railways located throughout the principality which
have a combined marketing strategy giving bargain travel through purchase of a
GLTW Discount Card. Of
course, day travel is available at all of the venues. Full details are available in a Fact

The Discount Card costs £10, which allows 20% off normal return fares. Each card is valid for 12 months from the date it is first used. Discounts have also been arranged at selected accommodation close to many of the railways.
Contact numbers and addresses of the individual railways are given below (those marked with an asterisk (*) are participating in the Freedom of Wales Flexi-Pass scheme which allows unlimited travel by public transport throughout Wales, as well as free or discounted admission to a number of tourist attractions).
Bala Lake Railway*

Operating over 4½ miles along the shores of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) in North Wales.
Brecon Mountain Railway*

Runs from the northern outskirts of Merthyr Tydfil to Dol-y-Gaer, overlooking Pontsticill
reservoir at the foot of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales.

Spectacular views travelling in or behind some of the original Victorian carriages and
locomotives are the hallmarks of this 13½ mile trip from Porthmadog on the coast of
Gwynedd high into the foothills of Snowdonia.

Runs for two miles along the shore of Llanberis Lake on the trackbed of the line which

old.
Vale of Rheidol Railway*

Rises through a vertical height of 600ft during its 11¾ mile journey between Aberystwyth
and Devil's Bridge. The terminus is adjacent to the mainline station at Aberystwyth.

The WHR has recently extended its narrow-gauge railway from Dinas to Rhyd Ddu, the latest
phase of a project which will extend 25 miles through the Snowdonia National Park between
Caernarfon and Porthmadog.

Steep gradients and balcony saloon coaches from Austria feature on an eight-mile trip
which starts a mile from Welshpool station on the national railway network.
