The Waltonesthe 'tones as babies

II met Manny and Mark at school in Rusholme, Manchester. The band formed in the front room of Manny's house in Whalley Range.  Mark and Manny had got themselves a guitar and a bass, and had started writing their own songs. I volunteered myself as singer, Alex got hold of a drum kit and we were all set. Now we needed a name. Mark had a brain wave...."Lets call the band The Waltons."

"If the Waltons had a band," I said, " it would be called The Waltones," and a ROCK LEGEND* was born.

We started to play whatever gigs we could get, and fairly quickly came to the attention of the NME. We were offered the chance to record a single in 1986 by Dave Haslam and Nathan McGough ( later manager of Happy Mondays) but their  plans fell through.    more   back
