After 5 months of sending out for information packages and videos I finally decided on a kit airplane from Kolb Aircraft. I live in El Paso, TX and own/fly a Cessna 172D.
The Firestar is the model with the best performance for the price using the reliable Rotax 503 engine and the folding wings is a big plus.
October 16, 1996 Ordered Kit # 1 wings and tail
December 03, 1996 Received Kit # 1
January 18, 1998 Tail assembly completed
April 05, 1998 Right wing completed
November 4, 1998 Ordered Kit # 3 Fuselage cage
January 05, 1999 Received Kit # 3
August 15, 1999 Left wing completed.
December 6, 1999 Installed the tail boom.
May 21, 2000 Installed the
wings and landing gear.
August 8, 2000 Painted the fabric.
August 13, 2000 Installed the engine
August 17, 2000 Preformed the
engine break-in
procedure.
August 19, 2000 Moved the FireStar to West Texas
airport.
October 15, 2000 Attached the
aileron gap
seal
