Steve Laursen won the AMSOIL Series 2000 WISSOTA Late Model feature Friday night at the
Superior Speedway. It was an all Laursen front row as Steve started on the outside pole
along side of his older brother Brent. Steve got the jump and led the entire distance of
the 25 lap race which went non-stop.
Pat Doar made one of his pattented charges but came up one position shy of winning the
race up from his seventh place starting position. A strong run was made by Bob Reed who
ran second for much of the race but finished an impressive third.
Tim Baum claimed his first feature win at the Superior Speedway since starting his
racing career in 1983. He did it in spectacular fashion passing Curt Meyrs at the finish
line on the final lap. The win was a hit with the fans who cheered wildly for Mr. Baum.

Jimmy Mars was the winner in the FRS Racing and Rods Painting and Sandblasting 40
for Wissota late models held here tonight at the Rice Lake Speedway. This race was round
ten of the Wissota Challenge Series for late models.
Twenty four cars started the fourty lap main event with Brent Larson sharing the front
row with Steve Egersdorf. Larson grabbed the lead at the start but when he drifted wide,
Steve Laursen charged inside him to take over the point. Laursen immediately set sail and
opened some distance on the field.
Larson settled into second with Jeff Keeney moving into the third spot. Back in the
pack, things began to settle down, and drivers began to pick their preferred line and
start to move. Mars started eighth on the grid and he immediately moved to the top side of
the track and started picking off cars. There were two distinct grooves on the red clay
surface and they were both being used.
Mars started to pick up the pace as he passed Egersdorf and Joel Cryderman and began to
track down Keeney. He wasnt the only one on the move though, as several other
drivers were picking up big chunks of real estate. John Kaanta started twenty second on
the grid and he was challenging for a top ten position by lap fifteen. Duane Mahder
started ninth and was following Mars line on the high side as he sought to pass Cryderman
himself.
Laursen continued to show the way but Mars was clearly on the move as he swept past
Larson and took over the runnerup position and set after Laursen. Mahder was in a great
battle with Cryderman for position as they both had overtaken Keeney. Kaanta had cracked
the top ten and was continuing to hustle the outside line.
Laursen caught the tail of the field as the halfway point approached. He was having a
little difficulty getting through the traffic and Mars was clearly cutting into his
advantage. Mars had his lead trimmed to about four car lengths when the lone yellow of the
event flew with twenty three laps complete as W.C. Field got turned around in turn four.
Mahder had edged by Cryderman for fourth for the restart and Kaanta was up to seventh
while Tom Nesbitt was eighth after starting twentieth.
Mars wasted no time on the restart as he moved to the outside of Laursen on the green.
He got a good run through turn four and down the front chute blasted into the lead. He was
flying as he quickly opened up some distance on the field. Laursen was under the gun as
Larson moved in to challenge him for second. Brent made the move stick as Steve found
himself sliding out in the turns. Mahder was the next to put the challenge on, so Laursen
tried the top side as he and Mahder switched grooves.
Meanwhile, Kaanta and Nesbitt continued their march to the front as they both picked
off the fading Keeney and Jon was also able to put Cryderman in his rear view mirror. Mars
was opening up distance as he was driving away from the field. In the last ten laps he
stretched his advantage to ten car lengths. At Gary Gruens checkered flag, he was
pulling away. Larson had a great run to hold onto the second spot as he was pressured by
Mahder in the closing laps after Duane got by Laursen. Kaanta finished a terrific charge
in fourth with Cryderman passing Laursen to round out the top five.
The eleventh and final round of the Wissota Challenge Series for late models will be
held on August 9th at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria Mn. Unofficially, Pat
Doar will enter that race with six point advantage over Joel Cryderman.
Notes: Mars victory was his first ever late model win here and was worth $2150. Mars
was driving the MasterSbilt chassis owned and occasionally driven by his father-in-law
Paul Gilberts. The car is sponsored in part by Gilberts of Sand Creek, Bernards Northtown
and Bobcat Express. Mars was experimenting with springs and shocks that he will use on his
own new MasterSbilt chassis and the crew was busy after the race taking the equipment off
the car so it could go on his own car as he rejoins the Hav-A-Tampa circuit.
The racy track tonight provided lots of passing. With only one yellow flag as an aide,
John Kaanta came from twenty second to fourth, Tom Nesbitt from twentieth to seventh and
Mars came from eighth for the win.
Kaantas night was quite an adventure. When he went to start his car for his heat
race it wouldnt fire and a mad scramble didnt unearth the problem. He missed
his heat and after borrowing parts from Duane Mahder and Jerry Redetzke was finally able
to get the car started just in time to start a B feature. He finished third there and then
began his charge. After the race he still didnt know the problem and the car had to
be shut off with a screwdriver.
Tony Bahr took his first ride of the year in Randy Gosss Swartz chassis and had a
top ten finish.

Steve Egersdorf passed pole sitter, Jeff Provinzino coming out of turn two, six laps
into the twenty-lap feature Thursday night. He would then have to fend off several
challenges from Lance Matthees, but was able to protect the preferred low line. Most of
the position shuffling was done in the opening couple laps.
Notes: Randy Hoff managed to be involved in two accidents in one lap at the start of
the first Late Model heat race. He made contact with veteran Tom Nesbitt sending him hard
into the concrete wall entering turn one, then managed to be in a grinding altercation
with "Papa Smurf" Jon Olson and Darrin Meierotto exiting turn two. The cars of
Nesbitt, Olson, & Hoff did not return to racing action the rest of the evening.

Tim McMann visited victory lane at the Proctor Speedway Sunday night. The main event
started with Proctors own Steve Roseen on the pole flanked by McMann. On the
original start as the cars thundered into turn one, third starting Darrell Nelson, looped
it unassisted. This stacked up the cars of Terry Lillo, Harry Hanson, Mitch McDonald and
Roger Paolo. Only Paolo was unable to continue
On the restart McMann took the lead. Hibbings Jeff Provinzino made a brash move
around and through many of the competitors coming from seventh to second in one lap. After
the opening laps drama unfolded, the cars ran mostly nose to tail around the
cushion.
With a couple laps to go McMann had caught up to the backmarkers who were also running
the preferred top line. This proved to make things a little interesting. Provinzino dove
to the bottom trying to pull off a slide job in turn four, but broke loose on the slick
track and lost his runner up position to John Massingill. Provinzino gathered it back up
to salvage a podium finish.
07/22/00 Cedar Lake Speedway - New Richmond, WI
By: Chris Stepan
The fourth annual Badger State Championship was already upon us at
Cedar
Lake on Saturday, July 22nd. A very large field of 155 cars signed in the
back gate ready to do battle.
The final event of the night was the Late Model main, which saw Duane
Mahder and Toby Patchen set the pace. Patchen jumped into the lead at the
drop of the green as Mike Chamernick came up to challenge Mahder for second
early. Chamernick was flying around the middle of the track as he slot by
Patchen into the lead on lap 4. Jon Kurshinsky came up to challenge Mahder
for third on the next lap as they were both reeling in Patchen. They quickly
caught Toby and made it a three-car battle for second as Chamernick had
begun to walk away from the pack. Mahder cleared the battle and set back off
after Chamernick as Jim Bruggeman and Jeff Patchen were beginning to move
their way through the field toward the front.
Mahder quickly reeled in Chamernick and began to work on the extreme
bottom
of the speedway very well, as the slipped under Mike on lap 11 into the
lead. The leaders were flying as they encountered lapped traffic very
quickly and began to weave through it. Mahder was working so well on the low
side of the track, he did not want to move out of his line, so in order to
get by one of the lapped cars, he actually drove under him on the infield
through turns one and two. Although he did not mean to slide off onto the
infield, he did not lose the lead as he continued off ahead of Chamernick.
Mahder again pulled away from Chamernick, but soon encountered a wall
of
lapped cars, which were racing three-wide for position right in front of
Mahder. Duane tried lap after lap to get by them to no avail, allowing
Chamernick to come back after him. Fortunately for Mahder, the only caution
flag of the event flew on lap 23 for a spun car in turn 4, clearing the way.
On the restart, Mahder again set off into the lead, as Bruggeman made a
bold move on the outside as he shot from fifth to third as the raced through
turns 1 and 2. Behind him, Tom Nesbitt, John Kaanta and Mike Goodremote were
in a fierce scramble for position as Kurshinsky and Toby Patchen were also
duking out for a spot. Kaanta cleared and reeled in Kurshinsky as the pair
went door to door over the final several laps for fourth as Mahder cruised
to the win ahead of Chamernick and Bruggeman. Kurshinsky was able to hold
off Kaanta at the line for fourth as well.
Racing resumes at Cedar this Saturday with a full program of WISSOTA
Late
Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Street Stocks along with a stunt show.
Racing starts at 7pm.

Joel Cryderman showed that you donıt have to start up front to win at Brown
County Speedway as he took home the largest paycheck in WISSOTA country with
his win in the Dacotah Rumble. Cryderman blasted off from his 13th starting
spot and picked off every car in his way as he claimed the $10,000 top prize
over a strong field of WISSOTA Late Models. Steve Laursen crossed the line
second as Rick Egersdorf, Curt Gelling and Lorin Johnson rounded out the top
5.
At the drop of the green, pole sitter Lance Mathees jumped out to a
commanding lead as the rest of the field shuffled for positions. Steve
Laursen put his #19 into second after 4 laps by running the low side of the
track but was unable to cut into the lead of Mathees. Rick Egersdorf settled
into the third spot as outside pole starter and defending Rumble winner Curt
Gelling fell to fourth and Inaugural winner Mitch Johnson ran fifth. Johnson
would push Gelling back one spot further the next go-around.
But the car everyone was watching was that of Thunder Bay Ontario Canadaıs
Joel Cryderman. After finishing third in his heat Friday night, Cryderman
was forced to start in the 13th spot. He didnıt seem to mind as he sped into
the top five only 7 laps into the 66 lap event. Cryderman wasnıt content
with a top 5 effort as he picked off Johnson then Egersdorf in the next two
laps. Cryderman than began to close on second running Laursen as the leader
Mathees still held a straight away lead.
As Mathees began to encounter slower traffic on the 11 lap, Gelling
reentered the top five with a pass on Johnson. As most cars were circling
the low side of the 1/3 mile oval, Mitch Johnson seemed content to remain
up high.
Cryderman caught the second running Laursen and was applying heavy pressure
until the yellow waved for the first time on lap 15 for the spun cars of
John Bey and Rick Thoenness in turn 4. Thoenness had to retire and Bey was
sent to the rear as the cars were lined up for the restart. Mathees large
lead was erased as Laursen was now on his rear followed by Cryderman,
Egersdorf, and Gelling. Mitch Johnson held on to the sixth spot while Eric
Pember, Pat Doar, Blaine Doppler and Dave Zimmerman rounded out the top 10.
One lap after the race resumed, Cryderman did away with Laursen and set his
sites on the race long leader Mathees. As the top two ran nose to tail, Dave
Zimmerman and Lorin Johnson moved up in the field in the low groove with
Zimmerman taking over sixth place. Mitch Johnson & Pat Doar kept their
mounts on the high side of the track but were sliding back in the pack with
Mitch Johnson falling as far back as 10th and Doar remaining behind him.
Mathees run up front would come to an end on lap 30 as he came upon the
slower car of Gary McNeil. With pressure from Cryderman behind him, Mathees
tried to get by McNeil on the inside exiting turn 2. The two made contact as
Mathees right front jumped onto the rear end of McNeil. Cryderman was able
to avoid the contact by going high but Mathees slowed instantly on the back
stretch. His night was over as he pulled his car into the pits as the yellow
flag was shown for the second and final time.
Cryderman now had the lead followed by Laursen, Egersdorf, Gelling and Eric
Pember. Lorin Johnson had gotten around Zimmerman for sixth and Mitch
Johnson clawed his way back up to eighth followed by Doar and Doppler.
When the race resumed, Cryderman left little doubt that he had the fastest
car as he pulled out to a comfortable lead. Laursen ran alone in second as
Egersdorf and Gelling tried to reel him in. Mitch Johnson finally had the
top side of the track come to him as he sped up into fifth place and began
to apply pressure on the low running Gelling. The Hickson, ND driver wasnıt
alone for long on the top side as Gelling quickly moved his car high. As
both Gelling and Johnson began to cut the distance to third place Egersdorf
, Lorin Johnson, Zimmerman, and Pember where doing battle on the low side of
the track for position and gaining on the leaders. Egersdorf eventually got
to the high side, cutting off the advance of Gelling and Mitch Johnson and
rebuilding his advantage over fourth place. Mitch Johnson was not able to
get around Gelling and found his move forward stopped by the lapped car of
Pat Weisgram. As Johnson battled for several laps to get around the slower
car, Gelling moved back to the lower groove and pulled away from his
challenger. Mitch Johnson lost his top five run as Miller, SDıs Lorin
Johnson and Elizabeth, MNıs Dave Zimmerman got by the #00 before he could
dispose of the lapped traffic.
Mitch Johnson then had to do battle with the 19th starting Kent Arment as
the top 6 spread out and saw little racing action. Johnson was able to fend
off the charge of Arment to hang on to seventh as Jesse ³the kid² Klug moved
his 7up car into ninth as Eric Pember crossed the line 10th. Pat Doar was
the last car on the lead lap coming home 11th.
NOTES:
Joel Cryderman was the hard charger of the event picking up 12 spots on his
way to the win. Lorin Johnson gained 11 spots and Kent Arment picked up 10
spots as the local modified ace continues to impress in his first full year
of late model action.... Lance Mathees won Friday nights fast dash which
allowed him to choose either inside or outside pole. He chose inside...
Local veteran Rich Thomas had perhaps the best run of his long career
Friday. He held of Rick Egersdorf to win Heat One and qualify himself for
the Rumble feature event. Rich has always been known for his shoestring
budget and the money he received this weekend will help as he puts together
a new car which he hopes to debut in a few weeks... Rapid Cityıs Dan
Hendrickson was DQıd after finishing second in the fifth heat Friday for and
illegal tire. Dave Zimmerman was the major benefactor as he was then placed
into the feature event... Jeff Wildung was in the Tom Thompson owned #12
after Wildung damaged his car Wed. night in the WISSOTA Challenge Series
Race in Madison, MN... In the 231 laps of Late Model racing, only three
yellow flags were thrown... Heavy rains in the Aberdeen area Friday morning
caused a late start to the racing action. Officials tried to get the track
in racing condition, but the excess rain caused single file racing in the
heats. After heat action, the track was bladed which provided for more
action in the Fast Dash... In the five year history of the Rumble, no driver
has yet to repeat as a $10,000 winner. However, year two of the event saw 2
$5,000 to win shows back to back instead of one $10,000 to win. Mitch
Johnson is the only driver to capture the Rumble title twice winning the
$10,000 in 1996 and one of the $5,000 in 1997. Other winners include Lance
Mathees ($5,000 in 1997), Jimmy Mars (1998) and Curt Gelling (1999)... Terry
Larson, Pat Weisgram, and Gary McNeil were all added to the 24 car feature
field as provisionals. Every driver not qualifying for the feature had their
name added to a hat. One hat for the local drivers, and one for all out of
town drivers. After one name was drawn out of each hat, the two hats were
dumped together with a third name being drawn. Perhaps next year they will
allow the 24 best drivers to compete in the feature... In a new twist for
this years Dacotah Rumble, Track Promoter Terry Voeltz was going to award a
fan with a $10,000 check too. Each driver who qualified for the final event
came to the front stretch and drew a name out of a barrel with all adult
ticket stubs in it. Each driver than had a fan associated with them. If the
driver wins the $10,000, so does his fan. The lucky winner was Watertown,
SDıs Chad Block... Congratulations also to Vivian Cunningham as she walked
away with $1,769 as the split pot winner.

The track was very muddy after rain all morning to 2 pm. Probably the
poorest track conditions we have had here all year. The 20 lap heats helped
even out the "luck of the draw". Mathees was absolutely FLYING the first
couple laps of the fast dash. He came from his 8th starting position to 1st
in 3 laps, then maintained a 4 car length lead over gelling the remainder of
the fast dash.

PARKER TOPS LANGLADE COUNTY SPEEDWAY FEATURE
ANVELINK, SCHARF TOO STRONG IN THEIR DIVISIONS
ANTIGO, WI - Pete Parker was the third and final different leader of the 20-lap WISSOTA
late model feature Friday night at the Langlade County Speedway as he parlayed a second
row starting spot to victory to highlight action.
A strong field of 75 machines entered the pit area including 33 IMCA modifieds. The fast
moving program also had 16 late model entries along with 13 trucks and 13 street stocks.
M.J. McBride led the first five laps of the non-stop late model main before Tim Buhler
took over at the front. Buhler would pull away to a three car length lead as McBride tried
to hold off Parker.
Parker would gain the second spot on lap 11 and then begin to chase the leader. McBride
ended up backsliding one more slot when Troy Springborn took over third on lap 13.
Parker closed the gap on Buhler as the 14th circuit was completed with the lead changing
hands on lap 15. Parker would then easily hold on over the final five laps for the win.
Buhler came home second followed by Springborn, McBride, and Tom Naeyaert.
The Langlade County Youth Fair will be in full force this coming Friday, July 28 with a
full program of stock car racing planned. The first green flag will fall at 7:15 pm. The
track is located on the north side of Antigo just off of Highway 45.

Mahder and Kaanta started side by side in the front row and they ran in that
formation for the first two laps. Kaanta gradually picked up momentum in the
second lane and began to pull away from Mahder. Kurshinsky and Goodremote
were battling for third ahead of Hessler.
A lap eight yellow for a Field spin changed the course of the race. Kaanta
had a healthy lead and Mahder didnıt seem to be cutting into it until the
yellow.
Kaanta stayed in the second lane on the restart and Mahder started driving
hard into the corners down low and found his car to be sticking. He pulled
in beside Kaanta and then just drove away from him. As the race stayed green
the rest of the way, Mahder built up nearly half a chute advantage as he
took his second win here this season. Goodremote ran alone for third ahead
of Kurshinsky and Gullixson. Heat winners were Kurshinsky and Goodremote.

Mike Chamernick made his return to action after surgery for a staff infection in his
foot. He might have been limping around the pits but he did anything but limp around the
track.
The twenty lap main event started with Don Copp on the pole and Roger Paolo to his
outside. Copp thundered into the lead with Chamernick in tow. Copp and Chamernick found
the low line to be their line of choice in the beginning laps. The first of two cautions
flew for Danny Young who spun in turn two on the fourth lap.
With Pat Doar racing elsewhere this weekend, Todd Gehl took his place as Mr. Highside,
flying around the top on the cushion. Gehl passed first Chamernick then Copp. Gehl paced
the action for a few laps and looked like he was going to be hard to beat. That all came
to an end when the nights second and final caution on lap 11 came out for the stalled car
of Doug Koski. On the restart track officials ruled that the leader jumped as he got on
the throttle midway between turns three and four. Gehl was penalized one position for
jumping and Copp was given the lead.
Now that Copp new that Gehl was faster on the high side, once the green flew Copp chose
to run the high line as well to fend off any potential charge from Gehl. This played right
into the hands of Chamernick who held his ground running the low groove and after a few
circuits took the lead from Copp to take the win.
Notes: Tom Nesbitt, who crossed the stripe third, came across the scales light and was
DQed. Lou Cianni debuted a new yellow #12 (looked like a Rayburn from the stands)
Darrin Meierotto was a no show for the feature as it appeared as he might have had engine
wows. He was leading the second heat when he pulled to a stop on the track. The first heat
had a scare as the #44 of Darrell Nelson had his right rear wheel come off the car while
he was running mid-pack in turn four.

Hibbing Minnesotas Tommy Waseleski is perfect so far in the AMSOIL Late Model
Series 2000. Tommy won the opening race at the Hibbing Raceway May 31st and
claimed the feature tonight in the second leg of the series at the Proctor Speedway.
The thirty-lap feature started with Waseleski on the pole in his Beltline Body Shop
C.J. Rayburn. Steve Egersdorf of Stacy, MN flanked him. Egersdorf got the jump at the drop
of the green flag and led the pack into the first turn, but Waseleski powered by in turn
two and never looked back.
The race ran non-stop until the events only caution flew for the stalled car of Jim
Staricha with two laps remaining. Waseleski was uncontested the entire way.
Notes: Bob Reed was in the Terrys Place MasterSbilt as normal chauffeur Darrell
Nelson was elsewhere with his own modified.
It was not a great night for hard charger Joel Cryderman. Cryderman broke at the drop
of the green flag in his heat race and quickly exited the track and did not return for the
evening.
Mike Meger won the B main but had to work hard to accomplish the feat. Mike was
involved in an incident when the car of Gary Kinney lost control and hit Meger in the left
rear corner, flattening Megers tire. Meger returned after changing his tire and worked his
way to the front.
The next AMSOIL Late Model Series 2000 race will be held at the A.B.C. Raceway in
Ashland, WI Friday, July 28.

Hanson for the last three laps. John Massingill was the hard charger of the night

Lost track after that, as the leaders were running in lap traffic and didn't

them out of contention early. Jim Zaremski lead more than half the 30 laps

the track was a dust bowl from the 90 degree temps.

Henck was the early leader with pressure from Copp. Mahder moved up to
pass Copp and then he moved in and swept past Henck to take the lead. A good three car
battle for third saw Nelson, Copp and Kurshinsky fighting it out.
Kurshinsky got squeezed out on lap nine and spun, going to the back. He
then put on a great charge, driving all the way through the field to edge past Copp on the
last lap to take second. He worked the high side to perfection on the smooth, slick track.
Mahder took his second win here in his Rocket Chassis while Henck got his best finish of
the season here.
Heat winners were Gehl and Metzgar.
07/15/00 Cedar Lake Speedway - New Richmond, WI
results Chris Stepan
It seemed like Deja Vu at Cedar on Saturday the 15th, as three of the
four
winners were repeats from last weekend. It is no surprise to see Curt Myers
or Craig Thatcher in victory lane at Cedar and as of late Jerry Redetzke has
been a force to be wreckened with also. All three topped their respective
division's main events, as did Chuckie DeSmith in the Super Stocks.
Lance Matthees and last week's winner, Jerry Redetzke sat on the front
row
for the Late Model feature with Redetzke rocketing into the lead at the drop
of the green. The lead was short lived as the caution blinked on after only
one lap, bunching up the field.
On the restart, Redetzke again shot off while Jim Bruggeman and
Matthees
raced door to door for second. Matthees reclaimed the spot as Rick Egersdorf
began a charge and moved in to battle with Lance for the spot. Egersdorf
looked very strong as he stole second from Matthees and began to chase after
Redetzke. The leaders were all running the low line around the speedway, but
Pat Doar was pushing the cushion all the way around the speedway and was
flying toward the front. Doar started 10th on the grid and appeared in fifth
on lap 6, then shot by Jeff Patchen into fourth on lap 7 and continued his
march toward the front as he blew by Matthees into third on the next circuit
and began to reel in the leaders.
Back up front, Egersdorf had caught Redetzke and began to wage a war
for
the lead. Egersdorf was very strong as he took command of the top spot on
lap 15 and began to walk away from the field. Eric Pember and Mark
Chamernick were also engaged in a great battle for fourth as they were both
able to slip by Matthees. Doar was really making the high side work as he
quickly reeled in Redetzke and just as he was able to draw alongside Jerry
for second, the caution flew for a crash in turn 2.
On the restart, Redetzke moved into the groove that saw Doar draw even
with
him and he looked as if the was shot out of a cannon. Redetzke quickly came
after Egersdorf up front as Brent Larson came out of nowhere and began to
battle with Matthees and Chamernick for fourth. Redetzke had taken a liking
to the high side and flat out smoked Egersdorf coming off of turn four with
two laps to go. Redetzke flew to a healthy advantage over the last two laps
as Doar also used his patented line to come after Egersdorf. As the
checkered flew, Redetzke picked up his second win in as many nights at Cedar
as Doar got a great run off of turn four and literally pushed Egersdorf
across the line for second. Matthees was able to regroup at the end and
cross in fourth ahead of Larson, who completed a very impressive charge
after starting 15th on the grid.

Feature - H. Schill, T. Schill, Balcaen, Kruk, Skytland, Corcoran, Anderson, Flaten,

FYI - next tour show is Sunday in Bismarck.
Interesting notes: 3&4 wide at times in heat races. Seng's tie rod went through
Skytlands door into the muscle of his left arm, but he continued and won the heat. In the
feature, Kruk started 12th, finished 4th. Skytland spun out of turn 2, ended up in the
back and worked his way to 5th (with basically one arm).
Lynn's Notes: The track was dry from top to bottom with a slight berm on top.
Track was also pretty rough, especially in turns 3 and 4. The feature was
pretty good as the Schill brothers battled throughout the 20 lap race.
Mike Balcaen was also in the mix, as well as Stoney Kruk in the last few
laps. Howie ran the bottom of the race track while Troy ran the top.
Balcaen ran both high and low looking for an opening. Troy pulled even
with Howie several times in the last 10 laps in turn 3, but could never
carry enough momentum out of 4 to complete the pass. Turns 1 and 2 were
extremely slick on top and Troy would lose some ground, then gain it back
and draw even in 3 and 4. It made for an entertaining race. Howie finally
snuck up the track a little in the last few laps and kind of killed Troy's
run off the top. Balcaen managed to hold off a hard-charging Stoney Kruk
at the line for 3rd.
Super Stocks - Bobby Eckhardt finally stopped Jerry Messner's winning
streak (It was either 6 or 7 in a row) in the super stock feature. He did
get some help. Messner started 8th and charged right to the lead within 7
laps. Then a slow car blew something and dumped fluid all the way through
turn 1. Messner came in and hit the fluid and went right off the track.
The slow car managed to get into the infield. The yellow came out and
Messner was sent tail-end. He did charge his way back up to 3rd and would
have challenged for the win if he had a few more laps.

Keeney led the first lap before Pember used the high side to take the lead.
However, Keeney was running very strong on the inside and he took back the
lead on the next lap. Redetzke also moved to the top, and he took over
second. He challenged Keeney lap after lap, many times pulling up beside
Keeney. However, Jeff remained strong and he continued to hold the point.
The leaders came up on the car of Weis who was running at the tail of the
field. When the backmarker dropped to the bottom, Keeney found his line
blocked and Redetzke used the opportunity to shoot into the lead. By the
time Keeney drove around the lapped car, Redetzke had built up a healthy
advantage with only a few remaining laps.
Redetzkeıs first win here this year was accomplished in his Hard Chrome
sponsored Swartz chassis. Heat winners were Larson and Redetzke.

Pat Doar again showed his prowess on the tacky 3/8th mile clay track at the
Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds Friday night. Pat had to work for his win again starting in
the sixth position.
The 20 lap main event started with current point leader Tim McMann on the pole flanked
by Darrell Nelson. McMann powered his way to the lead at the drop of the green flag he was
followed by Nelson and Pete Wohlers. Wohlers made quick work of Nelson overtaking him for
second place.
The first of four cautions flew just as lap three was about to be put in the books as
Kevin Carlson brought the Ronnie Malecki distributing, Parker chassis Monte Carlo to a
stop on the front straight. Before one lap could be scored on the restart the #28 of Jeff
Provinzino spun exiting turn four and was collected by the cars of Doug Koski and Harry
Hanson. Only Provinzino was unable to continue.
Some scary moments happend around lap 5 as the cars of Tom Nesbitt and Darrell Nelson
made contact while battling for third. This slowed the pair coming out of turn four and
really bottled up the field behind them. As the pack of cars entered corners one and two
the #3c of Donnie Copp did an addition for the Joey Chittwood thrill show. His car lifted
the entire left side of the car showing the entire crowd what brand of oil filter his was
using and more. Somehow Copp managed to not only right the car but also continue the fray
without blinking an eye.
Doar overtook McMann for the lead on lap eight showing his mastery of the high side in
Superior. The third caution would come out two laps later for the f18 of Bob Slater who
spun in turn four.
On this restart another tense moment occurred as the #41 of Bob Reed and the #3w of
Pete Wohlers stacked things up coming down for the green flag. Both cars continued but the
3w of Wohlers lost several positions. The final caution flew for Darrell Nelson as he
looped the black MasterSbilt coming out of turn four.
Doar held on to claim the mid season championship. Also, it was announced Friday
that the AMSOIL Series 2000 race rained out in Superior June 28th, has been
rescheduled for Friday, August 4th. (please don't kill the messgenger)

SEEGERT IN CONTROL FROM START TO FINISH IN LANGLADE GO
ANTIGO, WI Gordie Seegert took the lead at the drop of the green flag and
never looked back in winning the WISSOTA late model feature on Edelman Meats Night at the
Langlade County Speedway Friday.
Mike Wedelstadt drove a Brad Rohloff machine to the top spot and never gave in as he
topped the 15-lap IMCA modified feature. Jeff Jaeger won a wild WISSOTA street stock main
and Chad Romensko continued his dominance in the truck division.
Seegerts victory was his first of the season at the track. He started the 20-lap
finale from the front row and was never headed, leading the non-stop race by nearly the
length of the front stretch by the time the checkered waved.
Terry Casey came home in the second spot. Tim Buhler, Scott Cramer, and Terry Anvelink
completed the top five.

Doar Ignites TNT For L M Win
By: Chris Stepan
After torrential rains all weekend, TNT officials worked all day to get
the
track ready for the first visit for the WISSOTA Late Models in quite a
number of seasons on Sunday, July 9th. A low car count was overshadowed by
the quality of competitors that were in attendance, including several of the
fastest cars from Eastern and from Western WISSOTA country.
The mighty WISSOTA Late Models were the last event on the card with the
Fire Up Smoke Shop sponsored Gordie Seegert and Pat Doar sharing the front
row for the 30 lap main event sponsored by the Fire Up Smoke Shop. Doar used
the high line to jump into the lead at the drop of the green and brought
Steve Laursen with him into second. Doar immediately stretched his lead over
Laursen, while Tom Nesbitt and Seegert were door to door for third early.
Seegert reclaimed the third spot, while M J McBride moved in to do battle
with Seegert. Seegert then jumped the cushion a bit in turn 1, allowing
McBride and Jon Olsen to sneak by.
Back up front, Laursen had reeled in Doar and was putting heavy pressure on
him for the top spot. Laursen would get great runs through turns 1 and 2,
but Doar would pull him down the chutes. The leaders began to encounter
lapped traffic on lap 13, which allowed Laursen to draw even closer to Doar.
At the halfway point, Doar lead Laursen, Nesbitt, McBride and Seegert, who
had just slipped back by Olsen into fifth on the previous circuit.
Again. Laursen appeared to be better through the turns than Doar as he
ducked to the inside of Doar as they exited turn 2 and drew even down the
backstretch. Doar was able to hold him off into turn three and again moved
out to a 4 car-length advantage. The tog of war continued as Laursen again
moved in to challenge Doar for the lead, this time sneaking to the inside
just as they raced out of turn four. Laursen and Doar were wheel to wheel at
the line, but Doar again held the preferred line into the turn. The only
caution flew on lap 29 for Tom Nesbitt who spun while running a solid third.
The caution set up a green-white-checkered dash to the finish. As the green
flew, Doar again set off into the lead, but as Laursen tried to make the
high line work, he jumped the cushion in turn 1, allowing McBride to sneak
into second. Doar went on to pick up the hard fought win over McBride,
Laursen, Seegert and hometown favorite, Olsen.
Doar pocketed $1,500 for his efforts. Regular racing resumes at TNT this
Saturday night.

Mom Nature finally smiled on the Proctor Speedway Sunday night with warm temperatures
and sunny skies. Darrell Nelson no doubt found the weather to his liking as he took the
checkers in the black #44 MasterSbilt. The feature started with Bob Reed jumping into the
lead from his outside pole position. Reeds initial lead was short lived as Doug
Koski overtook him in turn one on the second lap. Koski held the lead for two laps but
then got into turn four a little to hard and lost the lead having to do some agricultural
racing through the infield to resume the fray. Reed once again took command. Darrell
Nelson was working his way forward from his fifth place starting position. Shortly after
the half way point Nelson who had made his way to second made a perfect diamond move in
turn one going high then diving low around Reed in two. Reed made it interesting
challenging Nelson on the final couple circuits as they caught lapped traffic, but Nelson
held on for the win.

Naeyaert and Spaulding top the Racette Ford
Firecracker Classic!
By Jeffrey Sachse
I was a celebration of summer, as The Sunnyview Speedzone raceway presented it's two day
special over the Independence Day holiday. The "Racette Ford Firecracker
Classic" saw over 130 different vehicles compete in six different classes on the
third mile clay oval.
Action resumed on Tuesday, with a much different racing surface. While Monday's events
were contested on a track that was tacky and a bit rough, the finales in the four
remaining classes were contested on a smooth by dry racing surface which provided some
great wheel to wheel racing.
Tom Naeyaert would score his first career victory in the WISSOTA Late Model division after
a decisive first lap charge to the lead, while Travis Spaulding powered to be a master of
the slick racing surface besting his fellow competitors in IMCA Modified action, which at
times provided four and five wide racing. Tim Van De Hei, took the lead on the final lap
of the IMCA Stock Car main event and held on to win by less than a fender over Jay
Matthias, while Jamie Colwell completed the winners list topping the Street Stocks in his
first appearance at the track this season.
After an initial false start, the WISSOTA Late Model feature would be slowed by three
caution periods during their 25 lap contest. While the event would have it's share of
passing, the winning move was completed on the first lap as Tom Naeyaert came from his
fourth starting spot, making a daring charge into the lead over visiting driver Pat Doar
on the opening lap. Doar who had started on the pole and won handily in is heat race
latched onto Naeyaert's rear bumper looking for a way back to the lead. The first caution
flew after the completion of the first circuit, and Pete Parker, who had dominated Late
Model action this season at the track headed to the pits with a flat tire.
When the green again waved Naeyaert was in the front with Doar and Terry Casey in pursuit,
while Parker worked his way from the ail of the field. Naeyaert seemed to have the speed
needed to keep Doar at bay while Parker roared past eight cars in three laps moving into
the forth spot with a daring three wide pass on Tim Buhler and Terry Anvelink, who had
captured the latest WISSOTA Late Model feature at The Zone. Action was halted a second
time when Jim Rychtik lost power on the back chute on lap nine.
Underway again Naeyaert again stormed to the front, while Casey used an outside move on
Doar to annex the second spot. Doar then fell back into the clutches of Parker as the pair
ran wheel to wheel trading the third spot back and forth before the final caution appeared
on lap 15 when a tire was knocked onto the racing surface in turn three. When the final
run to the checkered began, Naeyaert again found himself in command of the race with Casey
in the runner-up slot. Buhler had moved into third, but got an early jump on the field
which would result in a two position penalty at the finish. In the remaining distance to
the finish Naeyaert proved to be too much for Casey his nearest rival and he went on to
win the contest by nearly a quarter-lap. Casey would cross the line second finishing
solidly ahead of Parker who assumed third with five laps to go. Buhler crossed the line
fourth but with the penalty was credited with sixth behind Doar and Troy Springborn who
claimed fourth and fifth respectively.

Mitch Johnson to take over third with only three laps remaining. He applied
pressure on Clarke for second but was unable to get by... Only one caution
slowed the event as Clarence Washburn came to a stop with a flat tire on lap
8. He was able to change the tire but lost a few laps doing so... Jeff
Wildung had a top five run before mechanical problems put an end to his

Keewatins John Massingill used his pole starting postion to full advantage,
leading the entire way at the Proctor Speedway Sunday night. The top groove was the only
fast way around the dry track on this particular night, as a strong east wind off good old
Lake Superior took the moisture from the racing surface.

the early leader with Nesbitt applying the pressure. Kaanta went to the top
side on the smooth , slick track and was on the move immediately. He swept
past Gehl and Hessler and closed on the top two at about the two thirds mark
of the event. Kaanta stayed on the top and drove by the leaders for the win.
Laursen tried to follow Kaantaıs line and Nesbitt was able to take second.
Young fought off Nelson and Hessler in a good battle for position. Only one
yellow slowed the event when Nelson got tangled with Wade.

Matthees Marches to Firecracker 100 Late Win
The fifth annual Lou Fegers Firecracker 100 was on the schedule at Cedar
Lake on Saturday, July 1st with an overflowing pit area on a beautiful 90*
day in West central Wisconsin.
The big dogs were the final event on the card for this year's Firecracker
100. The Late Models were about to set off for 50 laps of fast and furious
racing action, with the winner taking home the $2,000 winner's paycheck. A
pair of Fegers cars sat on the front row as Toby Patchen and Lance Matthees
paced the field to the green flag. Patchen bolted out into the lead at the
start as Mike Chamernick came up to challenge Matthees for second early.
Joel Cryderman and Brent Larson were locked in battle for fourth on lap 2 as
were Jesse Klug and Steve Laursen. Chamernick began to mount serious
challenges on Matthees for the runner-up spot on lap 5 as Patchen was gone
and held a full straightaway advantage over the entire field. Pat Doar was
making his way through traffic as he bolted past both Larson and Steve
Egersdorf in turn 2 on lap 6 and then did the same thing to Klug and
Cryderman on the following circuit. The caution flew over the field for the
first time on lap 6, putting Matthees right on the rear bumper of Patchen's
# 25.
On the start, Matthees shot to the outside of Patchen and raced side by side
with Toby into turn # 1 Cryderman also pulled up alongside of Chamernick as
they also raced door to door in a battle for third. Matthees pulled his # 90
into the lead on lap 7 and began to pull away. Doar and Cryderman them moved
in to challenge Patchen for second as they made it a three-wide scramble for
second. Doar was able to shoot by into second, bringing Cryderman with into
third. Doar wasted little time reeling in Matthees as he drew alongside
Lance in a thrilling wheel to wheel battle for the lead. Doar would get a
great run through the turns, but Matthees would charge into the corners hard
on the bottom and let his car slide up across the track, pinching off Doar's
momentum, making Doar look to the low side if he was going to get by into
the lead.
At the half-way point it was Matthees, Doar, Cryderman, Chamernick and Klug
running in the top five. The field was encountering heavy lapped traffic on
lap 28 and just as Matthees was about to start weaving his way through, the
backmarkers collided and spun in front of the leaders. Matthees avoided the
spinning cars and set off again on the restart. Doar looked to the low side
to try to make a pass, but Matthees was strong in the middle of the
speedway. Kerry Hansen sliced through the field and appeared in sixth and
began battling with Klug for the position. Hansen was able to overtake Klug
on lap 29 and move into fifth. Back up front, Matthees, Doar and Cryderman
were gone as they pulled away from the field on each lap until the caution
flew once again on lap 33.
Again on the restart, Matthees stuck tight to the rubber that was beginning
to be laid down on the track and shot off into the lead. Doar was trying his
hardest to look for an opening, but was unable to make any other line work.
Matthees began to pull away a bit as Cryderman moved in to challenge Doar
for second. Two late race restarts set up a green, white, checkered sprint
to the finish, but no one had anything for Matthees as he cruised to his
first win of the season at Cedar on Lou Fegers, his car owners, night at the
speedway. Doar held off Cryderman for second as Chamernick and Hansen
rounded out the top five. However Chamernick's # 09 was disqualified at the
scales for failing to make weight. Hansen them inherited the fourth position
and Klug also moved up into the top five.
Due to the lateness of the event, the make-up Modified and Late Model
features were not run and will be the first thing on the agenda next
Saturday night. The races were the best that I have seen at Cedar all season
from the Streets to the Lates. Next weekend should be a great show as a full
program of Lates, Mods, Supers and Streets plus the 2 make-up features will
provide a very exciting night. The first green flag is set to fly at 7:30.

BERNA, LEMMENS SHARE VICTORY LAURELS IN LANGLADE GO
ANTIGO, WI - Ron Berna topped the 20-lap WISSOTA late model feature to highlight action on
Fire Up Fireworks Night at the Langlade County Speedway Friday.
.Before the largest crowd of the season at the track a strong field of 80 cars gathered in
the pit area including an Antigo Stock Car Club record 35 modifieds. Season high counts of
14 and 13, in the truck class and street stocks, respectively, also entered. WISSOTA late
model, WISSOTA street stock, and truck drivers are now racing for an increased weekly
payoff at the track.
Berna's victory came after fellow front row starter Pete Parker was forced to take his car
pitside during a lap eight caution. Parker, who had led since the drop of the green, was
waiting for the field to be realigned when his mount quit. Failing to get it fired with
the push truck, Parker's night was over and he was credited with 14th.
Berna had been running second at the time and was put to the point. Berna would not be
seriously challenged for the rest of the race as he took the checkered two car lengths
ahead of Terry Anvelink.
Tom Naeyaert came home third with Troy Springborn and M.J. McBride completing the top
five.
Springborn had charged from the rear of the field to gain a top five finish. After being
relegated to the back for a heat race infraction, Springborn passed eight cars within the
first three laps of the event and, at the finish, was possibly the fastest car on the
track when time ran out.

Larson executed a lap nineteen pass of Anderson to take his second feature
win of the year here. Anderson had led from the beginning of the event with
Larson putting the pressure on from the outset of the race. Kaanta moved up
and if fact, had passed Larson for second but had the move called back by a
yellow flag. Kaanta and Mahder both took shots at the top spots before faded
back into their own battle for third. Larson continued to pressure Anderson
for the lead and on lap nineteen Anderson slid out in turn one and Larson
got inside him. Larson pulled beside and took the lead out of turn four as
the leaders took the white flag. Larson extended his advantage on the final
circuit.

Notes: The track was extremely dry for Mid Season Championship night at
the River Cities Speedway. The heat races were lined up according to track
points and the features would then be straight-up from the heat races. The
dry track played right into the hands of veteran Mitch Johnson. He used
his years of experience and good driving ability to finesse his way around
the field in the heat race to put himself in a good position for the
feature. The key to passing cars tonight was being extremely smooth,
keeping the car straight, and not breaking the tires loose.
Johnny Johnson started the feature event from the pole position, but got
into Tom Corcoran on the first lap and broke a tie-rod. His night was over
after 1 lap. This brought out a yellow, which was the only caution of the
race. Tom Corcoran assumed the lead on the restart running the bottom of
the track. Troy Schill went to the high side and drew even with Corcoran.
Mitch Johnson decided to join the battle as put his #00 car right in the
middle of the two. The three cars actually ran three-wide for about 2 or 3
laps (Probably the longest stint of three-wide I have ever seen at Grand
Forks in my 15 years of coming to the track) before Johnson assumed the
point. From that point the race was over. Johnson drew away from the
field. Troy Olson capped off a great night by coming from the fifth
starting spot to finish in 2nd. He actually pulled up to the bumper of
Johnson by the finish as the cars were in heavy traffic.

The preferred line was the low line around the track, with not much passing, as you can
see by the starting and finishing positions. There was a nasty hole in turn 4, which
forced the cars to run low, or else go way high and have to fight real hard not to lose a
position.
Johnson and Sorenson ran nose to tail and had a full straightaway lead on the 3rd place
car of Thompson, before the 1st yellow flag flew on lap 28, for three cars up against the
turn 1 wall. I didn't see it happen, but the cars involved were Larson, Egersdorf, &
Wildung, with Larson being the only one able to continue. With a 2-lap shootout remaining
and all the cars bunched up, no one mounted a charge and everyone stayed in line behind
Johnson, as he went on to take the checkered flag, and lead all 30 laps.

Another fine evening for racing greeted the large crowd on hand
at the Cedar
Lake Speedway for the Hav-A-Tampa sanctioned 2nd Annual Masters 100 dirt
late model race on Saturday night June 24. A total of 46 late models
returned for night #2 of the Masters weekend. There were no new arrivals.
The two cars that did not return were Rick Egersdorf and Thomas Ware. Rick
had sufferred a blown motor the night before while Ware had sustained heavy
damage to his car in a heat race accident on Friday night.
The racing action in the heats was awesome. The track had multiple grooves
and was very racey. The two B Mains also saw some spirited battles take
place, especially for the third and final transfer spot. As for the A
Feature, the track held up pretty well for the first 60 laps or so, then
took rubber on the bottom, and became a one lane follow-the-leader for the
remaining laps. It was great to see a "local" area driver take home the
$35,000 first place money. Way to go RICK AUKLAND!!! Another big CLS
victory! Dan Schlieper led the first 43 laps until he jumped the cushion in
turn two, slapped the wall, and was done for the night. Rick led the
remaining 57 laps to take the win.

Lap Leader: Bloomquist 1-50.
Notes: Wallace got the lead on the first start, but the race was under
caution when Jeff Keeney ran into the back of Jim Bruggeman and ended up
spinning around on the frontstretch. Keeney's car was damaged in the front
end and needed to be towed to the pits. Bloomer got the lead on the
complete restart and never looked back, leading all 50 laps in the process
to take the $8,000 win. Only two other cautions waved early on (in the
first 10 laps). Attrition claimed 13 of the 23 starters. Only two cars
ended up being lapped. The track was pretty fast considering the gale force
winds that were blowing. It was a bit wavey in a couple of spots in the
turns, but it had a cushion about 2/3 of the way up which proved to be the
fast way around. A little bit of dust was kicked up on the feature initial
starts, but other than that, the track was not dusty. The program ended at
10:15 PM. Randy Green inherited the modified $1,000-to-win A Feature when
race-long leader Jason Menz was found to be illegal in a post-race
inspection (aluminum heads...not allowed under IMCA rules)

MAHDER CONTINUES STREAK WITH SHAWANO ANNIVERSARY VICTORY
WISSOTA Challenge Series Victory Second In A Row
SHAWANO, WI - Lately, the only thing that can stop Duane Mahder is the
weather.
Coming off back-to-back victories over the previous weekend, Mahder turned
in a flawless performance on Wednesday night, June 21st, at the Shawano
Speedway as he topped the Menominee Casino 40th Anniversary Special.
Mahder's weekend wins came at the Red Cedar Speedway and Rice Lake
Speedway. His win at Shawano was his second consecutive in the WISSOTA Late
Model Challenge Series after a victory at the Jamestown Speedway a week
earlier.
The program drew 37 cars from two states and Canada. In all the $20,000
late model payoff was one of the largest in track history.
Mahder's drive at Shawano was near perfect. After finishing third in his
heat race the veteran started the 35-lap main event from the pole and was
never headed, leading every lap. The win was worth $3,500.
"This car has been absolutely perfect lately," Mahder said from victory
lane. "The Rocket Chassis is really working for us. I can't believe this
run that we're on. I just hope it keeps going."
Mahder was chased to the checkered flag by Brent Larson, who ran in the
runner-up spot the whole race. Gordie Seegert, Jr., nipped Terry Anvelink
for third as the final flag waved. Mark Hessler completed the top five.
The race was slowed by a multi-car incident on the first lap. Several
cars made contact through the middle of the pack sending the field
scattering in turn two. The end result was the loss of Mike Hansel from the
race. All others continued on.
Back under green, the track was clear for Mahder as he drove away from
Larson. No match for the leader, Larson held on to the second spot as
Anvelink tried to close the gap.
Without a yellow flag to slow the race and very little lapped traffic,
Mahder built on his advantage over Larson. Leading by as much as a full
straightaway Mahder kept his car on rails and would never be headed.
"I just kept waiting for someone to come up and give me a run but the
longer we went under green the faster the car got," Mahder said. "The track
seemed to lock down on the bottom and that may have kept some of those guys
back there."
A late race scramble between Anvelink and Seegert saw Seegert move his car
under that of Anvelink's and take over the third position just as the
checkered flag waved.
NOTES - Mahder's winning car, a Rocket Chassis, is sponsored by Bulldog's
Bar and Grill. The victory marked his first ever at the 40-year old
track*Gordie Seegert's run to the third spot came after he and his team
decided to skip the event that was to be held at the Superior Speedway.
Seegert, who had stuck $600 into tires for Superior, had a change of mind
which yielded well at the pay window*Only two cars were down a lap at the
end of the feature and only four others had dropped out. Track conditions
yielded single-file racing around the bottom of the 1/2-mile*Steve Laursen
was forced to the back of his race after drawing the pole. Laursen was not
able to get to the track until just before race time. A crew member drew
for Laursen which is against track rules*Of the 37 cars on hand 15 would be
considered outsiders by all standards. Of those 15, 14 made the feature
event with 10 Shawano Speedway regulars also in the show*Pat Doar made a
tremendous charge in his heat race to garner a transfer spot. Starting
ninth, Doar moved to fifth, one spot out of the race, on lap seven but
trailed Pete Parker by some three seconds. Doar used the outer groove of
the speedway to run down Parker and passed him on the white flag lap. Doar
couldn't get going in the feature, though, and ended up 12th*Tim Buhler had
a transfer spot sewn up in the first heat when a tire went down with just
two laps left. Buhler said the air just went out of it and it had nothing
to do with the track*Scott Cramer put his car into victory lane in the
second late model heat, perhaps the biggest win of the young driver's
career. A former sportsman division driver from the far eastern side of
Wisconsin, Cramer has been consistently in the top five in just his second
full season of late model racing.

"Jammin" John Massingill of Keewatin, claimed his first feature victory of
the season Sunday, June 18th at the Proctor Speedway. John made the most of his
outside front row starting spot and led the entire way. Massingill had about a twelve-car
length lead over the rest of the field when the caution flew for Jim Staricha with only
two circuits remaining. This allowed Tim McMann to close in on the blue #6 Mastersbuilt of
Massingill for the restart. McMann had nothing for Massingill who held on for the win. An
impressive run was turned in by Darrell Nelson who had started fourteenth and worked his
way through the field to finish fifth.
