HANSEL'S MAIDEN VOYAGE IN LATE MODEL NETS SPEEDZONE WIN
OSHKOSH, WI - Mike Hansel had raced at the Sunnyview Speedzone before. It had been in a
modified and his success was limited.
Hansel purchased a late model from Terry Casey earlier in the week and turned the moved
into a victory as he topped the United Midwestern Promoters' portion of the Odyssey 100 at
the track Saturday.
Hansel started the late model main from the front row and jumped to the lead as the
24-car field took the green with Ron Stroika and Dan Tafelski giving chase. Rick Scheffler
was able to make his presence felt as he moved from the fourth row and into third before
the yellow flag waved on lap four.
Back to green Hansel pulled away from Stroika who was left to fight with Scheffler for
therunner-up spot. Scheffler moved into second on the sixth lap and tried to cut into the
advantage built up by Hansel.
The yellow flag waved again on lap nine when Bret Sievert looped his car coming off of
turn two and came to rest on the track's inside berm.
On the restart Chris Carlson charged by Stroika to gain third while Russ Scheffler, after
starting 12th , moved into the top five. Russ Scheffler then passed Stroika on lap 11 to
pick-up the fourth spot.
A three car pile-up on the frontstretch put the race under caution on lap 14. Stroika,
Tafelski, and Brian Jaeger were all involved in the mishap. With the time limit up
officials set the stage for a greee-white-checkered finish.
Hansel got a good run on the restart with Rick Scheffler choosing to follow him on the
inside line. Russ Scheffler tried to go to the outside as the trio entered the first turn
but he could do nothing with the leaders.
Hansel led on the white flag with the Scheffler's giving chase. Rick Scheffler chased
Hansel into turn three and would make contact with the leader sending Hansel for a spin.
The move would go for naught as the yellow had come out for debris on the track giving
Hansel the win.
Rick Scheffler finished second over Russ Scheffler, Jimmy Watson, and Troy Springborn.

Winter Nationals
results Brian Haar
With a light snow falling early Sunday morning and temperatures in the low
40s, this years Winter Nationals really lived up to it's name. Although the
air was cold, Lance Matthees turned up the heat as he pulled away for the big
win in the final weekend of Late Model racing in WISSOTA country. Matthees led
every lap and crossed the finish line a straight-away ahead of the rest of the
field. John Kaanta held off Curt Gelling for second and Mitch Johnson got by
Joel Cryderman on the final lap to take away the fourth spot from the Canadian veteran.
Pole sitter Lance Matthees and outside pole Curt Gelling ran side by side
for the first few laps of the 30 lap event. Matthees was sticking low on the
track and keeping his front bumper ahead of the high running Gelling. Four
laps into the event, Gelling got too high entering turn 4 and lost two spots
before getting his #18 back under control. This allowed Matthees to runaway
from the rest of the competition as nobody was able to get within 6 car
lengths the rest of the race. Not even lapped traffic slowed the #90 from
Winona, MN during the caution free race as he claimed the $3,000 winners check.
Although first place was never in doubt, the top ten saw many different cars
doing battle. At the drop of the green, John Kaanta dropped into third ahead
of Jon Kurshinsky and Mitch Johnson. Both Kaanta and Kurshinsky followed
Matthees around on the bottom of the track as Johnson was using the same high
line as Gelling. Both Kaanta and Kurshinsky got by the #18 of Gelling on lap 4
although Kurshinsky would hold that position only a few laps. Hank Berry
entered the top four by lap 10 as he got by both Johnson and Kurshinsky.
Kurshinsky continued his fall backwards as 16th starting Dave Zimmerman got by
him for sixth on lap 13 and Jeff Wildung put him down another spot a few laps
later.
Joel Cryderman needed a B-main to get him into the 24 car field after
experiencing car problems during his heat. However, after just 7 laps
Cryderman had his #51 in the top ten. Cryderman continued his path forward
using the low line around the 3/8 mile high banked oval.
Kaanta stayed low and battled through lapped cars while trading the
runner-up position with Gelling throughout the entire race. The two drivers
had a comfortable lead over the fourth place battle but never closed in on the
leader. Gelling took over the second spot on laps 16 and again on lap 25 only
to have Kaanta get through traffic and retake the position. Kaantas final
pass came as the white flag was waved with one lap to go.
Hank Berry lost a top five finish as Mitch Johnson and Joel Cryderman got by
him with only 10 laps remaining. Johnson and Cryderman put on a good show as
the two traded spots for the final ten go-arounds. Cryderman seemed to have
the spot wrapped up with five to go but Johnson put the pedal down exiting
turn 4 coming to the checkers and nipped him by only 1/2 a car length. Wildung
got around Zimmerman to cross the line in seventh with Kurshinsky holding on
to ninth and Rocket Rick Thoennes rounding out the top 10.
NOTES...
43 Late Models competed in the two day event... The first nights action was
postponed until Saturday after snow started to fall around noon on Friday. The
second nights event was then moved to Sunday afternoon... Temperatures never
topped the 45 degree mark the entire weekend... Randy Schilling suffered a
dislocated shoulder Friday after an accident due to a terrible move by the
Brown County Raceway's flag man. As the fifth heat was about to begin, Ed
Kirchoff pulled out to the track to join in the field. The flag man waved the
car onto the front stretch as the field was about to take the green. Kirchoff
had not even entered turn one when the flag man dropped the green to start the
race. The cars hit the gas then hit the brakes as they saw the slow moving
Kirchoff just ahead of them. This caused a pile-up that sent the #22 of
Schilling off the turn one banking, landing hard as he was spun around.
Kirchoff was then blacked flagged. However, after much protest from the crowd,
Kirchoff was allowed to compete... Seven cars did not return for the second
day's events. They were Troy Olson, Roger Swenson, #75 Eilers, Terry Newhouse,
Rick Walth, Mike Nutzmann and Randy Schilling... Chuck Swenson won a coing
toss over Pat Weisgram to fill the final spot in the 24 car field. Both
competitors finished 5th in their respective B-Mains... Scott Paulson won the
Street Stocks... Shawn Malsam won the Super Stock... Curt Gelling won the Modified.

Stock Car Stampede
results by Brian Haar
Mitch Johnson got by leader Dave Zimmerman on lap 12 to earn the victory in
the 28th Annual Stock Car Stampede. Zimmerman was able to hold off a hard
challenge by Nassau, MN native Jeff Wildung to cross the line in second a half
car length ahead of the third place finisher. John Henkemeyer and Smokin' Hank
Berry rounded out the top five.
Johnson started the 25 lap event from the pole position with Zimmerman on his
outside. The two battled for the first two laps at the drop of the green,
before Zimmerman was able to get his #19 into the top position. Johnson fell
in line behind him and played follow the leader until Zimmerman got his right
rear a little to high between turns 3 & 4 on the 1/4 mile oval. That bobble
was all the Hickson, ND veteran needed to shoot into the top spot. The two
battled for the lead the next few laps with Johnson staying in the preferred
high line and Zimmerman trying to dive low in the turns. Jeff Wildung joined
the battle as he began 3 wheeling his mount around the track trying to gain
positions. Johnson eventually pulled away to a 3 car length lead as he left
Zimmerman and Wildung to battle for the runner-up spot. Johnson maintained
that advantage as he crossed the line to earn the #2,500 winners share.
Notes...
The start of the event was delayed by 2 1/2 hours due to rain... Shortly after
the completion of the B-Mains, another shower passed through delaying the
racing another 1/2 hour... The final flag dropped around 1:15 am... There were
4 cautions that slowed the 20 lap event... Jerry Legatt had a top ten run
going until bringing out the first caution on lap 9 by running off the track
on turn 1. He would not return... Stoney Kruk hit the front stretch wall,
destroying the right side of his car and bringing out a caution for body parts
on lap 10. He would not return...Troy Schill was in a #63 car that was
formally owned by Dennis Moser... During a caution on lap 18, the #11 of Tim
McMann made contact with the #10 of Mike Balcaen doing damage to the front
left of Balcaen's car. Balcaen was unable to continue... Little passing went
on during the feature event. The #44 of Darrell Nelson was an exception as he
started 13th and was closing in on Hank Berry's rear bumper to do battle for
5th when the checkers waved... Jeff Hinkemeyer also gained 7 spots as he
rounded out the top 10... John Henkemeyer did triple duty qualifying for the
features in the Super Stock, Modified and the Late Models... Darrell Nelson
and Hank Berry competed in both the Mod and Late Model mains and Brad Seng was
in a Super Stock and his LM... The modified feature was won by John Correl and
the Super Stock feature by Brad Messner.

Punky Manor Challange of Champions
results Greg Parent
The final night at the Punky Manor Challenge of Champions saw another
pleasant evening for racing action. A very large crowd filled the stands
and even the first turn bleachers had a fair amount of fans sitting in them.
Unfortunately, the track turned into a one groover for the A Features though
after having showed some promise earlier in the evening. In the 40 lap late
model A Main, it was a story of tough luck and disappointment for Paul
Gilberts. The veteran LM pilot was making a rare start in his #P12 LM this
season, and he found himself on the pole for the A Main. Paul proceeded to
lead the first 39 laps of the race. Sometime during the latter half of the
event, which was slowed by a total of three cautions, Giberts' car broke the
left front spindle. This made the car more difficult to handle in the
turns, especially coming off the corners. Rick Egersdorf waited until the
final corner of lap #39 to make a low move on Gilberts, since Paul had
slipped up out of the bottom groove just a bit. The two raced side-by-side
down the front stretch to take the white flag, making some contact at the
start finish line in the process. Since Rick had the preferred inside line
entering turn #1, so Paul was forced to move up the track just a bit into
the middle groove. Paul had the rear end of the car come around on him, and
he spun out over in turn 2. The race ended on a checkered/yellow deal with
the scoring reverting back to the 39th lap (except for Gilberts). Very
tough break indeed! Egersdorf claimed his fourth career Punk Manor title in
concluding the racing season at Red Cedar Speedway. The program ended at
9:45 PM.

09/18/99 Brown County Speedway - Aberdeen, SD
WISSOTA Western 100
results by Brian Haar & John Shaner
John Bey took advantage of a mistake by Curt Gelling to grab the lead and then
held on to win the WISSOTA Western 100 and a $3,500 paycheck. The Deadwood, SD
driver held Mitch Johnson at bay over the last thirteen laps to claim his
first ever Western 100 title. Following Bey and Johnson across the line were
1998 Western 100 winner Dave Zimmerman, Late Model rookie John Tesch, and Jay Kintner.
Most of the field was running the high line around the 1/3 mile high banked
oval. However, on lap 26 Gelling got a little too high as he momentarily lost
control of his car in turn 1. This was the opening Bey was waiting for as he
shot past the #18 into the lead. Gelling recovered to hold onto third as the
#00 of Mitch Johnson also got by. On the next lap, while trying to keep the
fourth running Tesch behind him, Gelling drove too hard into turn one sending
both drivers off the track. Gelling was sent to the rear and eventually pulled
off the track before the race went back to green. John Bey was never seriously
challenged as brought his #82 car across the line a 1/2 car length ahead of Johnson.
At the start of the 40 lap WISSOTA Late Model feature, Bey fell into second
place behind pole sitter Curt Gelling . He stayed within striking distance of
the Brown County Point Champion, never letting Gelling get more than a couple
of car lengths ahead. Positions were being swapped behind the lead duo as
Mitch Johnson battled for third with Jay Kintner and Jeff Hinkemeyer. Johnson
was finally able to secure the spot on lap 17. One lap later, the twelfth
starting John Tesch took over the fourth spot as he got by both Kintner and
Hinkemeyer. Tesch looked very impressive considering he climbed into the seat
of a Late Model just a few weeks ago. Also on the move was Dave Zimmerman. He
entered the top 10 on lap 15 after starting the feature in 19th.
At the halfway point in the race, everyone was still chasing Gelling. Bey held
on to second ahead of Johnson, Tesch, Kintner, and Hinkemeyer. Chuck Swenson
was fighting with Don Shaw for sixth and Zimmerman had just gotten by Randy
Nordstrom for ninth. A yellow on lap 23 for the spun #X car of Swenson in turn
four slowed the field. The Watertown, SD veteran was given his spot back as
Shaw was sent to the rear for helping Swenson send his car around. On the
restart, the #19 of Zimmerman picked off another spot as he got by Swenson for
sixth.
After the caution on lap 27 for the incident between Gelling and Tesch,
Zimmerman took fourth away from Jay Kintner as John Henkemeyer, Lorin Johnson
and Hank Berry all entered the top ten. Bey and Mitch Johnson ran a couple of
car lengths ahead of the rest of the field as Zimmerman used a restart on lap
32 to gain another spot moving him into the top three.
The final caution of the night came on lap 35 as the 3J of Lorin Johnson and
the XX of Randy Nordstrom got together entering turn 4. Six more cars were
involved in the mishap with all being able to continue except Lorin Johnson.
NOTES... Six cautions slowed the race... Eighteen of the twenty-four starters
were able to finish the race... Seven of the Late Model drivers did double
duty on the final night of the Western 100. Curt Gelling, Dave Zimmerman, John
Tesch, John Henkemeyer and Hank Berry all ran in the Modified feature. Brad
Seng competed in the Super Stock main and Chuck Swenson was behind the wheel
of a Sprint car... Just as the Late Models were being brought onto the track
the skies opened up. After waiting about 30 minutes, the rain stopped and the
track was worked back in by the Late Model feature starters. The final
checkered flag fell at 11:45 pm... The Brown County Speedway has one event
remaining on the '99 schedule. On Oct. 1 & 2 the Winter Nationals will be held
for WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modified, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA
Street Stocks, and Outlaw Street Stocks.

After 2 days of rain outs, the Nationals finally got underway on Sunday.
The new promoter informed the drivers at the pit meeting that due to the
poor crowd turnout, he could only pay 70% of the gate and would understand
if any driver decided to leave. To the credit of the drivers and crews, not
one car loaded. Then the fans jumped into the program by donating several
hundred dollars to fatten the purse.(Gotta love those fans)
By the time the Late Models took to the track for the feature, the track
was going to allow only one groove of racing on the bottom. The real
downfall of this was that some really fast cars were stuck in the pack
unable to get by slower cars.
The big loser of the night was John Bey. He was running 5th, and blew a
tire on the last lap dropping him to 19th.

After a caution with 5 laps to go, Jeff Hinkemeyer held off a late race charge
by Jeff Wildung to cross the line in second. However, that is all he needed to
do as the race long leader Dwayne Clarke came up light at the scales.
Hinkemeyer took home the $1,500 winners check followed by Wildung, Jay
McDonald, Chuck Kelly, and Leroy Schuelke in a race that saw little passing in
the top 10 after the first few laps.
Polesitter Clarke jumped out front of the 21 car field after two failed
attempts at the start of the 25 lap race. The night for Terry Lanphear and Tom
Thompson was over before one lap was completed. Lanphear exited with car
trouble and Thompson was taken off on the hook after being involved in the
wreak which brought out the first yellow. Fourth starting Hinkemeyer fell in
behind Clarke on the start but never seriously challenged him throughout the
event.
Three laps into the race, another yellow was thrown for the stalled car of
Clarence Washburn. As Washburn was being taken to the pits, the 42 of Don Shaw
died on the backstretch. Shaw was running in the top ten before his
misfortune. Yellows were also thrown on laps 9, 18, and 20 for spins of cars
running outside the top 10.
On each restart, Clarke would pull out to a three or four car length lead over
Hinkemeyer while Wildung would apply heavy pressure to the 4F for second.
Chuck Kelly lost his fourth place spot late in the race to Jay McDonald but
was able to keep his mount in front of Leroy Schuelke. The #11 of Schuelke
battled door to door with Kelly over the last 4 laps but had to settle for
fifth. John Kaanta came home sixth followed by Jason Weis. Craig Scott got by
Eldon Oldre for 9th with 4 laps to go then inherited 8th two laps latter when
the car of Jerry Pridal pulled of the track. Pridal had held the 8th spot for
most of the race.

Private promoters brought the late models back to Gillette Speedway for
the first time in several years. The best from the far west left the huge
1/2 mile Black Hills Speedway and gave the overflowing crowd a real show of
speed on the tight 3/8 mile track.
Chris Larsen led flag to flag, but there was enough side by side racing
in the rest of field to keep everyone on their feet.
It's great to have another wissota track looking to add late models to
their weekly programs.

SHAWANO, WI - Terry Anvelink made it look easy Saturday night at the Shawano Speedway.
Starting the 20-lap WISSOTA late model feature from the third row, Anvelink took the lead
from Jon Olsen on lap four and never looked back in capturing his fifth main event of the
season at the track.
A regular show season high 20 sportsman entries turned out for the program along with
20 late models, 33 IMCA modifieds, and 17 hobby stocks. The program marked the final
regular Saturday night event of the summer with the season championships coming on Friday
night, September 3.
Anvelink's late model win came at the hands of Pete Parker. With Anvelink a full
straightaway ahead of the rest of the field Parker was able to steal the second place
money from Gordie Seegert with a last lap pass off of turn two.
Seegert held on for third ahead of Terry Casey and Ron Berna. The second five consisted of
Mark Hessler, Tim Buhler, Tom Naeyaert, M.J. McBride, and Troy Springborn.
Naeyaert and Springborn will fight for the track championship heading to the final night.
Naeyaert gained two points Saturday leaving him 14 ahead.

1999 Track Champion: Tim Richter
08/27/99 Langlade Co. Speedway-Antigo, WI
results Bob Schafer
ANTIGO, WI - M.J. McBride parlayed a front row starting spot into a win Friday night at
the Langlade County Speedway as he led every circuit of the 20-lap WISSOTA late model
feature.
The program was the final Friday night show of the 1999 season at the track. A special
Saturday race, set for September 4, will determine the track champions in all divisions. A
strong field of 81 cars entered the pit area including 17 WISSOTA late models, 28 IMCA
modifieds, 18 street stocks, 14 trucks, and 4 ABC cars.
McBride jumped to the lead as the late model feature took the green flag with Terry
Anvelink and Pete Parker falling in behind the top running car. The lead trio quickly
pulled away from the rest of the field before a yellow flag waved on lap four when a track
tire was knocked onto the track.
Back under green Parker was able slide by Anvelink to gain the second spot before the
caution flag waved for a second time when Steve Hoffman spun his car. McBride was
challenged briefly on the restart as Parker took a shot at him on the inside. Parker
couldn't make the pass and McBride then pulled away to a three car length lead.
A pair of yellows - one for Brian Younger and the other when Gordie Seegert and Troy
Springborn came together while racing on the backstretch - on lap 13 kept the field
bunched up. When the green came back out Anvelink took a shot at Parker for the runner-up
spot in turn three. The two cars came together with Anvelink ending up facing the wrong
way. Anvelink would go to the pit area with a flat tire.
McBride crusied to the win following the lap 15 restart with Parker giving chase to the
checkered flag. Naeyaert finished third ahead of Ron Berna, who had to restart the race
from the rear, and Springborn.
Naeyaert's third place run netted him a two point lead over Springborn heading to the
final night of points at the track.
FEATURE - M.J. McBride, Pete Parker, Tom Naeyaert, Ron Berna, Troy Springborn, Tim
Buhler, Jon Olsen, Scott Cramer, Tim Bennett, Jim Rychtik, Dennis Konitzer, Steve Hoffman,
Terry Anvelink, Gordie Seegert, Terry Casey, Brian Younger, Bob Bennett.
HEATS - FIRST: Seegert, Naeyaert, Springborn. SECOND: Berna, McBride, Parker.

Notes:
Cryderman powered his way to the front early in the 25 lap feature after
starting in the 5th row. He caught lapped traffic with about 10 - 12 laps
to go and was passed in traffic on the high side by Mike Balcaen. A yellow
came out with 8 laps to go bunching up the field. Cryderman wasted no
time, as he powered under Balcaen coming out of turn 4 and re-took the lead
with 7 to go. He held on to pick up the win by a couple of car lengths.
The win was worth $1600 as Bergstrom Electric doubled the pay-off for the
top 3 cars in each class.
Sprints - Brad Pake #53 put on a show as he started the 25 lap race in 9th,
took the lead by lap 6, then spun out on lap 8 and was sent tail end. He
came through the entire field again and not only won, but finished a full
straight-away ahead of the 2nd place car. The win was worth $2000.
Super Stocks - Brad Seng picked up the $500 feature win after coming from
the 10th starting spot.
All in all it was one of the best overall programs of the year. The track
was a little rough in turns 3 & 4, but there were multiple grooves and lots
of passing.

Didnt get the rest.
The LM feature was fairly uneventful with Gelling and Johnson running 1 and 2 from start
to finish. The excitement of the night was modified driver Jon Tesch sporting a new
masterbuilt LM. His first night in a LM he came from 6th spot to win his heat. (to be fair
only 3 finished that heat due to an accident, but still a great accomplishment 1st night
out). He came from dead last (15) to finish 3rd in the feature.
Looks like Gelling may have some competition on his home track next year!!
The other excitement came at the start of the Mod feature. With Gelling & Arment
battling for the lead and track point championship (there was 1 point difference at start
of feature). Arment on the low side and Gelling running high, Arment got loose and slid
high banging into Gelling pretty hard. Arment was sent to the rear but Gelling had a flat
tire and had to go to the pits to change it, which sent him to the rear also. Arment must
have had damage to his car because he was not competitive the rest of the feature and
Gelling went on to win.

Tim McMann claimed the Season Championship feature at the
Superior Speedway. Tim had a fairly easy time of things. He started on the
pole and was challenged by outside pole starter Steve Roseen for the first couple laps.
Roseen started to fade and McMann was never seriously challenged again. Don
Copp was crowned the Late Model point champion for 1999. Copp made the biggest
charge in the feature finishing third behind teammate Pete Wohlers after starting eighth.

Jeff Wildung continued his August hot streak with another big win as the
WISSOTA late models invaded Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. Wildung grabbed
the lead from Jerry Legatt at the halfway point of the 30 lap feature and held
off a late race challenge by Dave Zimmerman to take home the $2,000 top prize.
Current WISSOTA Challenge Series point leader Pat Doar crossed the line third
followed by Legatt and LM rookie Scott Atkinson.
Wildung worked his way up from the seventh starting spot to do battle with the
#71 of Legatt after a lap 13 caution for then leader John Seitz, who had
something break on his mount during a restart. Seitz lead the first 13

NAEYAERT AVOIDS WILD WRECK TO WIN SHAWANO SPEEDWAY FEATURE
SHAWANO, WI - "I really don't know how I missed that. I just pointed the car where
they were and went for it. It was kind of like the Winston Cup thing."
The words of Tom Naeyaert from victory lane following a crash marred WISSOTA late model
feature race Saturday night at the Shawano Speedway.
"There were cars everywhere, all across the track. I just chose a couple to drive at
and made it through," Naeyaert said.
Naeyaert was referring to a lap three incident when Jon Olsen and Steve Hoffman, the front
row starters in the 20-lap main, made contact while racing down the backstretch. Hoffman
and Olsen ended up spinning as they entered turn three with 18 other machines barring down
on them.
The car of Pete Parker, who was running third then made contact with Olsen and the tightly
grouped pack of machines ended up in basically total carnage in turn three. Of the 20
starters, 16 machines were involved in the pile-up with the cars of Parker, Mark Hessler,
Troy Springborn, Terry Anvelink, Ron Berna, and Brian Younger unable to continue.
M.J. McBride, Doug Blashe, Gordie Seegert, Tim Bennett, Mark Mitchell, and Terry Casey
attempted to rejoin the race. Casey, who had the entire front of his car torn away, could
not make a lap and was forced to the pit area. McBride made a single lap and pulled in.
Back to green, Naeyaert wasted little time in motoring around Hoffman to take the lead
away. From that point on it was nothing more than a hot lap session for Naeyaert as he
cruised to the win. He would finish nearly four seconds ahead of Tim Buhler.
Seegert finished third followed by Tim Bennett and Scott Cramer. Just six cars finished
the feature race.
"That was a mess, no doubt about that," Naeyaert said. "That could have
been the worst one we have ever had here. Hopefully that will be the end of that type of
thing this season."
FEATURE - Tom Naeyaert, Tim Buhler, Gordie Seegert, Tim Bennett, Scott Cramer, Mark
Mitchell, Steve Hoffman, Bob Bennett, M.J. McBride, Pete Parker, Terry Casey, Ron Berna,
Troy Springborn, Dale Olson, Mark Hessler, Terry Anvelink, Todd Frank, Brian Younger, Jon
Olsen.
HEATS - FIRST: Casey, Olsen, McBride. SECOND: Naeyaert, Parker, Hoffman.

TOM NAEYAERT TOO TOUGH IN LANGLADE LATE MODEL FEATURE
ANTIGO, WI - Tom Naeyaert is enjoying his best season ever behind the wheel of a WISSOTA
late model stock car.
He did nothing to hurt that statement Friday night at the Langlade County Speedway as he
captured the win in the 20-lap finale on the ½-mile clay oval.
Naeyaert's win left him a single point out of the track's late model lead. Trailing Troy
Springborn by two markers at the start of the night, Naeyaert picked up a single point on
the leader. There are two events left at the track to determine the championships.
Driving a GRT chassied car, Naeyaert took the lead away from Scott Cramer following a
restart on lap 12 and was never headed in his run to the checkered flag.
Prior to the yellow, which waved for a tire that had rolled on to the track, Cramer had
built a full straightaway lead over the rest of the field. Cramer saw his advantage go
away with Steve Hoffman, Jon Olsen, Gordie Seegert, and Naeyaert lined-up behind the
leader as the green waved.
Naeyaert moved his car from the third row to the top spot as he split through the
frontrunners. Eventually, Seegert was able to get around Cramer for second but he was no
match for Naeyaert.
Springborn came home third followed by Pete Parker and Terry Casey.
FEATURE - Tom Naeyaert, Gordie Seegert, Troy Springborn, Pete Parker, Terry Casey, M.J.
McBride, Scott Cramer, Tim Buhler, Terry Anvelink, Ron Berna, Steve Hoffman, Dale Olson,
Dennis Konitzer, Jon Olsen, Brian Younger, Bob Bennett.

NOTES: Wildung made it 2 for 2 this week at the RRVS. After trailing Dave
Zimmerman by as much as half a straight away, a yellow with 8 laps to go gave
the #50 the chance he needed. On the restart, he used the high side to get
next to Zimmerman and after a three lap battle, pulled away to a comfortable
win...Jay MacDonald was sent to the rear of the pack for not staying above the
orange cone after the first attempted restart after the lap 12 caution.
MacDonald was up to fifth place at the time...Darcy Barnstable, point leader
at RRVS, made the most of the last 8 laps after the caution. When the yellow
appeared, he was running near the back of the pack. After the restart, he was
able to pick off car after car to finish in fourth...A rare occurance tonight
as Mitch Johnson dropped out of the race with mechanical problems. I believe
that is the first time I've seen that happen.
