Church History

Northside Baptist Church had its beginning in April 1939 as a Mission sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Lutner and First Baptist Church.  Dr. and Mrs. Lutner owned the land and helped build the first building.  The church was started after much prayer and a meeting in an old rabbit hutch north of Cache Road.

Reverend Harold A. Reeves served as first pastor.  He was followed by Reverend Byron Smith.  The mission was constituted as a church on August 26, 1943, with 27 people becoming charter members and was named Lutner Memorial Baptist Church.

The church voted to change the name to Northside Baptist Church in March of 1952 at the request of Mrs. Lutner.

The new auditorium was built in 1953 under the leadership of  Reverend Carson Everett.  The church grew until two worship services were being conducted each Sunday morning.  A new and larger sanctuary was dedicated September 11, 1960, while J. Harold Bryan was pastor.

The church had grown from a twelve by twenty four foot structure to an approximate 30,000 square foot building.

Pastors serving through the years are: Byron Smith, W.C. Wandell, Bill Emanuel, Whitley Garrett, W.L. Cass, Carson Everett, J. Harold Bryan, H.M. Riek, A.J. Jorgenson, Wayne Sanmann, Raymond Thomason, Robert Searl, and our present pastor Cliff Gravitt.
