The purpose of this set of pages is to provide resources to fellow researchers who are working on the Wolford/Wohlford family. Keep in mind there are about 20 different ways to spell the name. On this page you will find links to a query page, my Civil War Pension Application research page and links to other Wolford related pages. You will also find a link to my golden retreivers page as well as my photography page. A link to my introduction page is in the works.
The couple pictured above are my great grandparents, Charles Calvin Bartels and Sophia Jane Wohlford. Charles was born in Brunswick Germany in 1851 and died at Pinetown in Cumberland Co PA in 1926. He was the son of Frederick Bartels. Shortly before the Civil War Charles and his older sister Augusta and his younger brothers Henry and Frederick came to York PA where Augusta married Henry Cleffman. Henry evetually married and settled in Steelton PA, Frederick also married and was a cooper at a brewery in Reading PA. Charles graduated from the Lutheran Seminary at Selinsgrove PA (now Susquehanna Univ). While a student there he was a summer supply minister at the Lutheran Church in Loganton, Clinton Co PA. Following graduation he came back to Loganton to be the fulltime pastor. It was here that he met and married Sophia Jane Wohlford.
Sophia Jane was the daughter of Philip Wohlford and Sophia Snook. Philip was a son of the Philip Wohlford who came to the Brush Valley of Centre Co from West Manheim Twp in York Co about 1798. This Philip was a son of Philip Wohlford and Catherine Kraemer who were from Berks Co PA. Philip's parents were the immigrants, Johann and Anna Maria Agatha.
I am interested in tracing Johann and Anna Maria Agatha's descendants in PA and west. I am also interested in other Wolfords/Wohlfords etc as well and have collected information on them from PA and their migrations south and west. I also have information on them from Maryland and immigrants directly to OH. If you have a Wolford etc connection please let me know.
