Over here in the corner we have a library of 20th century books. Pull an armchair up to the fireplace and enjoy one of these books.

Robin Hood Fiction

There are many RH fiction books out there. Here are two that Kathye has read recently.

The Sherwood Game - Ester Friesner What happens when a Robin created in a virtual reality escapes to the "real" world. A real ripping yarn.

The Forestwife - Theresa Tomlinson (Youth) A young Marion comes to the forest and learns how to be the Green Lady.

Humor

Simon Hawke - The Reluctant Sorcerer, The Inadequate Adept, and the Ambivalent Magician ---A scientist from our world gets stranded in a magical world. What can I say? Ya gotta love any series where the main bad guy tries to take over from the narrator.

Terry Pratchett - The Discworld Series These books are just wild. And if you're a fan of footnotes, these are the books for you.

Mystery

Elis Peters' Brother Cadfael Series --- Two generations before RoS. A Benedictine Monk solves crime on the Welsh border. Provides interesting insights into Medieval life.

Sharan Newman - The Catherine Levendeur Series --- A young woman in mid-12th century France solves crime. This series even has an angry young Saxon! If you are interested in Medieval life, then these books are a must read. I really cannot emphasize how strongly these books are recommended!

Other Worlds

Marion Zimmer Bradley - Darkover Series. ---A wonderful fantasy/SciFi series. Mixes feudal telepaths with spaceships. A facinating society. The Avalon books -- A wonderful look at the women of Arthurian times.

Raymond E. Feist - Riftwar Saga ---This series starts off like a traditional swords and sorcery story, then morphs into something else. And then, just when you thought that THAT was the real story, we take another 180 degree turn. Start with "Magician".

George R.R. Martin - A Game of Thrones --- So far this is the only book in this series. I'm eagerly awaiting the next one! This thing is dense. There's a lot of information to get through, but I could barely turn the pages fast enough.

Michael Blake - Dances with wolves. While it's not medieval, it does have bows and arrows! This takes place in Kathye's part of the world.

Youth

T. H. White - The Once and Future King

Susan Cooper - the Dark is Rising Series --- A powerful story about the triumph of Light over the Dark. This is one of the earliest fantasy series that I read.

C.S. Lewis - Narnia Series

L. M. Montgomery - Anne of Green Gables.

Tanith Lee - There are many books to choose from, but Flora suggests "The castle of dark", a 'really scary book'!

Laura Ingals Wilder - The Little House books --- This also takes place in the part of the US Kathye is from.
